Seeing as how cable channels do not fall under as strict FCC revisions as the standard broadcast set, I would say that they can take their sweet time to get there. Considering that it's owned by NBC now, that they'll slowly grind their wheels towards HDTV support at some point in the future.

They're hardly your only option for printing supplies and manufacture, and it's their product. Why shouldn't they be entitled to profit off of their products?

Simply put, if you don't like it, buy it from someone else.

If the company of original manufacturing is making a quality product, I don't believe it's in another businesses place to rip off that original company of their hard work just to undercut them by a few dollars. There are people who have worked hard to provide those products, with lots spent on R&D to ensure a quality product, and just as good after sales experience with this same company, and you'd rather support a business looking to profit off the backs of others hard work?

You look at the success that Apple has had with this, and this seems to be a logical analogy.

The fact that I can (by my OWN logic) come to this analogy on MY OWN, says to me that apple has infact found themselves in this situation and they are doing what the Hen did, and it was all to the Hen's benefit.

Or is there a resolution to the Hen's story?
The hen didn't share, so the hens "friends" called up a senate subcommittee claiming unfair "food" distribution that was anti competitive?

And resulted in people who could care less one way or the other getting to dictate to the hen about who she has to share her bread with.

Buy an iPod, download your music from itunes.
What would apple do to a ipod purchaser that was happy with their purchase that would justify dumping apple to go with a company that has never really supported or endorsed apple in the past?

I'm not a fan boy, but good customer support, reliable hardware, and the fact that paying a decent premium for hardware nets you reliable hardware, makes Apple a good decision all around.

Real has taken some bizzare guerilla tactic against a company THEY have determined is the problem factor that needed correcting. (ie hacking Fairplay)

I have no issue with Apple's tactics of keeping their format, player, and store closed for just them.

As long as Creative and Sony keep their smaller markets kickin' Apple's not approaching a monopoly on this... If this approaches this front, how unfortunate is it for the competitors that they have to rely on moving physical media (ie brick and mortar) to peddle their wares?

It's not Apple's fault that they have one of the least restrictive DRM's on the market. That's their thing going in their favor to being a market leader.

Screw real. They want to muck up Apple's fantastic plan with a brand that has SOOO many negative connotations to it, that it seems unfair in my eyes to Apple to have to put up with this.

  8. Re:How ever.... on Apple's Motion Now Shipping · · Score: 1

What's the thought process that AVID can even compete with Shake or Combustion or Digital Fusion, et al?

These are totally different products with a different end result.

Macs have their place in compositing and effects, but I'd wager a good deal more people are using discreet Infernos, Flames, and Smoke machines to do these "movie effects" than you'd see a Shake.

I can't tell you how many features and commercials I see that have been made on a discreet machine over an Apple. Apple's tend to get more press for it, because they've got the ad budgets for it, and Apple tends to think they need more press for stuff like this to further their user base.

hit up discreet's website and check out their client demo reels. You'll see more than just LOTR's as a demoreel. http://www.discreet.com

Just cause New Line and Apple pimp out their system rigs to a end user on the DVD's doesn't mean that everyone uses it, or that this or another configuration is the only solution that they use.

Graphics houses usually have several solutions to their work. Shake is usually the option of choice if they're doing simple compositing with TONS of placements of things in the shot (like the battle of pelinnor field in ROTK)

It's not a titler (like motion seems to be) with particle animations. It's not a bunch of presets. It's laborious work to make a composite work properly.

If not for the fact that Apple's got so few choices for uncompressed video capture, I'd consider getting one.

But motion's not for me. If it had some actual controls and not a preset list, and had 3D integrated into it, it'd be a runner for AE and combustion, but it holds no candle (nor will it ever) to Digital Fusion or an Inferno.

Only the GB/A/SP, The Nomad, and Virtual Boy have tried to innovate in these areas. I'd seriously consider buying a console that made some intelligent use of the 3D computer montior technology that's out on PC. Console manufacturers are too reticent to try something like this, but that'd be a true innovation over the current generation, without a loss on graphic capabilities.

I'd like to know where Texas of all states picked up this stupid ass connotation of cowboys. You're just as rarely and as likely to see someone matching this description in NM, NV, UT or CO than TX.
