  1. Choice is easy on Battlefield 2142 to Bundle Spyware? · · Score: 1

Such a silly idea - why didn't they give people the option to choose if they wanted to install the rubbish? If they ticked NO then the advertising system in-game could've just served out generic/random adverts like 99% of advertising systems on the 'net... not a difficult compromise - unfortunately now it's too late - the game's already packaged.

Better yet, streamed advertising. That way they can signup advertisers for 6 months, a year, whatever - when a user plays online, a small advertising update can be sent out to their machine to update ingame billboards, posters, etc. Thus giving a subscription model that users dont have to pay for on top of the initial purchase (which ought to be lowered - thus garnering more buyers - more targets for the advertising etc)

  6. Coldfusion's 2c worth on SQL Injection Attacks Increasing · · Score: 1

I like ColdFusion's method for helping coders protect against this issue -and quite a few other things too: select blah from blah where field = by setting the cfsqltype correctly it also gets around those sodding issues with databases that cant figure out WHICH field you've referenced incorrectly. How many times have you written a 30+ long insert or update statement, go to test it, and receive a message about incorrect data type with no other info... tells you which field broke your query! So the crux of my comment is, I dont know much about PHP or ASP, but ColdFusion developers have ZERO excuse for making the mistake of NOT using cfqueryparam to protect against injection attacks.

  16. what constitutes a pre-emptive nuke strike anyway? on How About a Nice Game of Global Thermonuclear War? · · Score: 1

So, what constitutes a pre-emptive nuclear strike anyhow? The whole idea of a pre-emptive strike being to defang an enemy before they can use their weapons against you. That isn't going to work with nukes though (ICBMs anyway) since as soon as you launch, people will be able to tell which country you're after based on their vectors, and responses will be launched accordingly. Surely the US doesnt have enough stealth bombers to take out every missle site in a given country either? so what's the point of making the claim? Any nuclear strike would involve horrendous casualties back on US soil.

How do they make money through advertising when they're driving viewers away? My family only watches cable channels now, where at least the repeats are MEANT to be there.
