haha nice fake on the powerbook fire.. the other photoshop work on the site (gallery here) is pretty good, some funny ones.
lol. nice one apple apologist putting a burnt battery down to being photoshop! lol. That's pretty rich. If you think that's a photo retouching job then I have a bridge to sell you
That the result of a lithium ion battery that's badly made shorting out inside itself and "venting with flame". What it means is the battery suddenly goes into an uncontrolled reaction and splits, and on contact with air it shoots hot lithium metal out everywhere.
Whoever this happened to I bet has some pretty bad burns to show for themselves. This is the third powerbook I have seen to do this I think apple will have another class action suit on their hands.
Using "but... but... we'll go out of business if we don't do this" is a lame ass excuse.
No further proof of this is needed than looking at SCO. Darl has hinted at it a couple of times, and SCO insiders I've talked to have said the same. They know the company was going down the tubes, and wouldn't have survived to now if it weren't for the lawsuits. Perhaps they're only getting 6 months more, but that's what they're trying.
However it somewhat invalidates the common media point of filesharing HURTING sales. If sales are in their best year ever, then they're not being hurt too greatly by the sharing that IS going on.
I find it incredible that terraforming of Mars is considered an alternative today.
Personally I think it's already underway. I'm not so arrogant to think that there's no way life couldn't have hitched a ride on the dozens of pieces of junk now littered over its surface.
How many spores of some kind or another are up there that can survive for hundreds/thousands of years? how long until they end up in one of the areas of standing water? How long AGO did this already happen after the first probes landed?
Am I the only one who finds that name Grace Hopper and the expression "computer bug" go well together?:oP
For anyone who didn't get it (and it seems nobody has, yet, judging by your moderation)... Grace Hopper... Gracehopper... grasshopper... bug... squish. relay. etc
I'm calling mine slash org dot.dot so I can use slash dot dot dot to go to aytch tee tee pee colon slash slash slash dot dot dot org... Because it's no sillier than 4 name changes in 12 months.
I remember when the iPod was first released a few people mentioned going into stores, plugging theirs into demo machines and taking copies of all the software they wanted in seconds.
Without the need to plug anything in, imagine what could be nicked with one of these!
I remember back in the early 80s your response was the same one that many people used when the Mouse first appeared. It was pointless, applications would need extra more complex code to support it, and nobody would end up buying one because there was no application support.
Now they're ubiquitous.
On another point, I once worked as a computer operator for landscaping data. We had tablets with large areas for digitizing maps where the 22 button tablet (yes, as large as a mouse) was used for tracing outlines, a 5-key chorded keyboard used on the left for other functions, and key pedals used for switching context. It didn't take long to get used to, and for the purpose it was needed for saved a great deal of time on a keyboard+mouse only. Everything has its uses
Right. and if you equate some company's lawsuit loss over anti competitive practices to be the same as MURDER then my friend you are plain and simply psychotic.
What next do you want to call for EXECUTIONS when people don't pay a PARKING FINE?
I'd be interested to know how many MacOS users actually DON'T also use Windows as a second OS. How about a "slashdot challenge" to see how many user's can actually use their OS of choice (macos, linux, bsd etc) fulltime for a month without using windows.
It would be interesting to see who would put there time where there mouth is
Don't you think it's kind of telling that GUIs have required so many iterations and versions and still people havent managed to learn how to use a computer properly, they're still difficult to use and still people end up not being able to get them to do what they want.
Yet the terminal console is almost unchanged in 30 years. Hmmmm?
So far, Apple hasn't licensed FairPlay to anyone else.
Exactly. Leaving them as the only player to play Fairplay tracks, and when DVDROM comes out encoded as Fairplay, then only iTunes will play them on computer.
The logic is so simple it's astounding, I'm surprised nobody else is seeing it
That Apple utilizes the DRM features of AAC doesn't mean that everyone else is required to use it.
No it doesn't mean it has to be that way, but it will be. Do you think when music is distributed on DVD and cdroms have gone the way of the dinosaur that there will be no DRM on them? there will be.
Again I reiterate. Only one player plays DRM AAC files, and thats Apples iTunes hence it is lockin to Apples player.
I hope the EU comes after Apple as hard as they look to be coming after Microsoft soon
You can, but this isn't a case of ripping from pure audio to AAC, this is supplier provided AAC, which no doubt will have DRM.
How many DRM players of AAC are there? One. iTunes. There is no doubt in my mind the big players behind Apple have swindled their way into this one too, and swayed decisions to use AAC.
So in future when AAC is the only way you can buy Discs of music you HAVE TO USE ITUNES. That sucks, and closes out everyone else in the market. And people try to say Apple isn't a monopoly.
AAC supports DRM. It does not require it. The DVD forum may or may not put it in. (I would suspect they would, but it is not required.)
I am certain they will.
And what then. All music from now on will require iTunes to play, and a license from Apple? This is what I don't like about DRM and certain companies owning it. It forces us to choose one product if we've already chosen another.
And when it comes to DVD-ROM music formats it looks like we're not GETTING a choice. It's iTunes compatible or nothing, which unless Apple supports Linux is going to again leave Linux out in the cold.
I've always wondered this but nobody's ever given a satisfactory answer to "why not".
Why not overclock network cards as well as CPU and graphics cards?
think about it
If I can get 10mg from a normal network card and overclock it for say 15 even if I need shorter cables, that's only shorter than maximum isn't it? So instead of 30ft cables I might be limited to 20ft. Big deal in a home network, NOT. I could overclock some more of my machines and have them all going at 15mg, and get better network speeds. I'm surprised there have not been articles about this. Or what about modems? or monitors? or even sound cards to get higher frequencies and better bass from them?
Why stop with just a cpu when it's not even a slowest part of a system but hard drives might be more difficult
If only darl had used email to contact prospective SCO linux license clients he'd be a shoe-in

Groundwater. Contaminated groundwater, and LOTS of it.

This makes me realise it's a little bit WORSE than SCO.
At least, at one point in time, SCO had a product.
Now a vaporware company is suing the people who haven't reviewed their non products.
(They had to step up from suing their own customers like SCO because, hey, being vaporware they HAVE no customers)

It's over. The antitrust trial has gone by. A decision was made and we've stuck to it.
What now? does dragging this stuff up accomplishe anything more? It's just for microsoft bashing.
This whole story should be market -1 FLAMEBAIT

WARNING ATTENTION WARNING
gnome.org has been rootkitted. Anyone running a version higher than 2.4.2 should IMMEDIATELY DOWNGRADE TO 2.4.2

You're totally speculating whether or not the DVD forum will choose a DRM scheme
LOL. omg. serious. get a GRIP of yourself.
Are you even hinting that RIAA/MPAA/**AA around the world will NOT use DRM on future products?
Oh wow that is naive.
That Apple utilizes the DRM features of AAC doesn't mean that everyone else is required to use it.

You can quite easily rip to AAC without DRM.

Great... more lock in to Apple. what more can I say.
Blagh

Mod me down as a troll hey? If Microsoft had performed this same trickery and I had written an anti-microsoft rant about it I would be at +5 by now.
Amazing how hypocritical you can be when it's Apple who's doing the dodgy business. Open your eyes and see what Apple is trying to do to people
