Turbochargers do increase efficiency. The only reason that turbocharged cars often do worse than non-turbocharged cars is the tuning. Small turbodiesels often get better fuel economy than similar output non-turbo diesels.
If you've got phone wiring in the wall already, I've had really good results with HPNA3.0 adapters. They work at better than Ethernet speeds over a couple thousand feet of otherwise untreated wire. There are also Ethernet-over-Coax adapters available, which I have no experience with. And if you've used the old (12Mbps) Ethernet-over-power stuff, take a peek at the new stuff. It now runs at Fast Ethernet speeds, and I've heard good results about it.
Also, if you remap the Caps Lock key to be a Control key, like any sensible person would, the new Mac hardware won't remove the delay. So you have to hold down the key for it to activate. Could that possibly be any more annoying?
Here's another treat: http://www.taxfoundation.org/taxdata/show/486.html Not sure how much to trust this organization, but they seem to lay out where the get the numbers. Looks like we're not so heavily taxed as states go. I'm curious as to why our federal tax burden is so much higher than other states. Perhaps it's because of the limited deductibility of sales tax coupled with relatively higher income? That would certainly do it.
Or maybe doesn't have time to hang out on Slashdot. Actually, the GP comment was based off of inaccuracies in LynnwoodRooster's other comment. Here's a couple that stand out from this one:
The SLUT is actually named the South Lake Union Streetcar. It's unclear if it was never officially named the SLUT, or if the name was changed quickly. Ha ha.
I want to know where this 33% 'actual cash being spent' number came from, because the best I can find is the 2007-09 budget compared to the 2003-05 budget, at 28% increase. That's without any correction for inflation, either, or for additional services needed for the 6.4% population growth in that time. http://leap.leg.wa.gov/leap/Oversight/histtot.pdfhttp://www.ofm.wa.gov/pop/poptrends/poptrends_07.pdf
And that that '3 times the workforce' growth of the state? Well, let's see: http://leap.leg.wa.gov/leap/Oversight/histfte.pdf Looks like a 5.75% growth in FTEs at the same time as that 6.4% population growth. You're right! That's CRAZY!
Seriously, not everything you say is wrong, but there's plenty of unsourced, fluffed up statements in there. Next time, try showing us where you got the numbers from so that we can look and decide for ourselves. I don't totally disagree with you, either. Government spending is growing too quickly in this state. But the doom and gloom that you're presenting? It's over the top and alarmist.
Your dogma is showing - the sales tax has been deductible from the federal tax for years now. http://www.bankrate.com/brm/itax/20041012b1.asp It's currently up in the air as to if this will continue or not, but that's really the Feds at work, not the states.
That might also be router awfulness. I replaced my little NAT router with a Linux box when I built one for media storage, and suddenly I didn't need 15 second keepalives on my SSH sessions any more - they would still be up after hours of idle time. How nice! Cheap routers only keep so many connections in the air at once. Expensive routers also have limits, but they're much higher so it's more practical.
My big concern is that some of the TV space is used for wireless microphones and monitors in theater, live sound and conferences. There's a huge amount of that hardware deployed already, much of it unable to change frequency past a relatively narrow band. Since it's low-power one can conceive the signal not always being detected by other white space hardware. With the signal being analog instead of digital, interference can really matter.
So you're saying that you lost 42kb of data you did care about, and some other unnamed amount of data that you lost but didn't care about? That seems a bit disingenuous. Even if you could have recovered the other data, since you didn't try it wasn't recovered.
Anyone know a place better than eBay to buy used payphones? I've got an art project in the works that could use two or three of them. Working is important, but they don't need to accept coins. Thanks.
So why not a refurb? I've had startlingly good luck with refurbished things over the years - it seems like they get the QC that units coming off of the assembly line don't get. Even thinking about it, I can't remember ever having a refurbished product break, and I've bought plenty of refurbished things over the years.
Your interpretation - from my view, he was just trying to get his arms out of the way so that they couldn't be used as handholds to escort him out, since he was taller and larger than at least one of the involved security staff. Disclaimer: no sound on this computer, so I was watching it silent. He looks to me like a person trying to escalate a situation.
I'm pretty sure that those sorts of things are just designed to make it so that you have several places to click around the site to get all your information. They want to get more clicks in, so you'll read more ads.
I don't know what poor people you're around, but at least around here plenty of them end up driving beater Toyotas and beater Hondas. I have my fair share of friends driving $1000 Japanese cars and not having serious reliability problems at the same time as getting 30MPG or so. Now that they're getting past the carburetors and into fuel injection things seem to be getting even easier, as they're less likely to get one that runs truly badly -- fuel injection seems more likely to be go or no-go than carburation.
Perhaps these perceptions are skewed by the California economy, where housing less than 80 miles from a decent-paying working class job is unaffordable. Up here, it isn't impossible for a single working-class person to get housing for $300/month less than ten minutes from a decent job, and this isn't exactly the middle of nowhere.
Um, Canon does embed your name into the pictures you take, if you want. I have my name and phone number embedded into pictures taken with my D30 and 10D. I figure it's already a matter of public record, so I hardly have to hide it. With that information embedded in the EXIF, it will be easier to find my camera if it is ever stolen and used to upload pictures to the Internet, or if I published a photo and it had the copyright infringed it would be easier to prove.
I've been much more comfortable with my media storage boxes since I implemented regular RAID integrity checks. Just knowing that we're likely to catch a disk failure early is very comforting. Also, I know that if I do a recovery, I can set the recovery rate nice and low to keep from stressing the remaining disks. Since the media is backed up anyway (on the original CDs and DVDs) but recovery would be quite annoying, it seems like a sensible compromise.
For servers? Rsync images to physically distant servers, as far as I'm concerned, and we're not a big shop. Disk is just too cheap to justify anything less than that as a baseline, as far as I'm concerned. Our entire critical dataset compresses to only a few dozen GB, easy enough to put on disks hanging off of several machines. If we had a bigger dataset I'd probably have to think about it harder, so I'm sort of blessed there.
This is news to me. I've been using the 'Report Inappropriate Content' link on pages with horrific password-stealing traps, whenever they get spammed to me. So far the quickest response from Myspace has been nearly a month. It seems obvious they just don't care about stolen passwords, and they don't have to care.

Highest gas tax in the nation? Try http://www.api.org/aboutoilgas/gasoline/upload/State-Motor-Fuel-Tax-Rates.pdf and see it's the 6th highest. High, but not the highest in the nation.

Don't worry. Lots of his 'facts' are overinflated, out of date or just plain wrong.

Good thing you're staying away from character attacks.
Oh, wait. Sorry. My mistake.
But they do work for LAN play! All you have to do is add nwmaster.bioware.com 127.0.0.1 to your Hosts file. Generate keys to your heart's content.
Seconded! It probably didn't make the list because there's hardly any glitz or glimmer, but the game has depth and replayability.

Are we looking at the same letter? I don't see any apology there. Regret, sure, but that's just the first step before apology.

Yes, of course we disregard insurance fraud. Many things break down if you assume people will behave in a criminal manner.

I like this line the best:
And trying to restrict people from being able to time-shit radio is also pointless.
Never heard of that particular practice. Perhaps it goes with this product.

You've needed too much magnetic flux to wipe media for a while now. Bulk demagnetizing doesn't work on most modern media with any sort of reliability.
