  1. Re:What is keep Linux from the Desktop on Wired Interview with Linus Torvalds · · Score: 1

What keeps linux from the desktop is the basic reason that unfortunetly so few people want to learn anything about computers, they want it presented for them. I've heard the analogy what if we bought/used cars as we bought/used computers. You don't need to be a technician and know everything on how your car works, but it helps to know some of the basics on how the car functions. The same is true with computers, if people forgot trying to memorize complex mouse/keyboard sequences to get e-mail, and speant maybe a few hours just learning about computers in general, a lot of them would be suprised. It's the people who are perfectionists or geeks who think its not just good enough to get something done unless your sure that it was done right who are using linux.

Heh, bluetooth enabled what a great idea in concept...but if you had a phone and pda in one, isn't it supposed to replace each one individually? Hence eliminating the need for this device to be able to sync up wireless with theese devices.

Anthony Hamilton is apparently (more likely his producer is) not very knowledgable about all his record and distribution deals. He is featured on the iTunes Music store, where his MP3's can be downloaded burned and shared, obviously giving a chance for thoose of you wiht iPods, because the iTunes store is supposed to come out with a windows port soon. The true irony in this is that his "Anti-Swap" CD is selling on amazon.com for $10.99, while the entire cd can be bought on iTunes for $9.99

Microsoft can't win by cutting prices because they can never meet the Microsoft business ideals if they where giving out software....which would be the only way for them to compete.

Ok, good point pulling linux out of the box does not fix security problems, but correct configuration of a linux system WOULD prevent a lot of the threats that viruses present. Not to mention the fact that it would save them millions in licensing. The time it would take knowledgable techies to set up a linux based security system can't be much more than that of a Windows based system, and in the long run saves money. The real question is how can a government organization using tax money pay millions for software licenses for crap software...

Seagate probably has Microsoft knocking on the door for the last few years with more money than they've ever seen. Unfortunetly for Microsoft they are gaining a little bit of a track record of well lets say not neccessarly treating business partners as well as some think they should. Accepting any Microsoft deal is almost a death wish for companies. They suddenly become locked into a Windows only market, and when Microsoft becomes unhappy with them, they'll just buy them, or copy their ideas and remove them from supported Windows devices. If I where running Seagate, I would not want to have anything to do with Microsoft.

Im using an iMac, and apples iChat program. It is only a matter of time before AOL will lock out these types of clients. Its obviously their choice to make, and my choice to disagree with. I will not download the AOL client for AIM for mac os X, because I do not want any AOL software on my computer. Personally I think open source developers should create an instant messenging protocol of their own, I would be glad to help.
