This is probably really obvious, but why did they sue Microsoft instead of Fraunhaufer? It seems Fraunhaufer is the one selling a product based on Alcatel's patents. Wouldn't it make more sense to go to the source of the infringement instead of suing the customers?
Go to NYC and tell me how you're going to build 3 sets of 4 lane highways that can bring a person anywhere in the city. That land is all used up.
Building sets of roads that connect NYC to Chicago is pretty pointless. Ford is only going to make money off of building roads we use on a daily basis.
Why P2P?? You're ON slashdot, so you have an ssh server at home, right?
This is quite simple. 1) Create a user on your home computer that has a dummy shell, so logged in users can't harm you. 2) Setup pubkey authorization for said user 3) On your laptop, put a script in/etc/network/if-up.d/ that connects back to your computer using the key. Options include
a. ssh -n -R2022:localhost:22 -- allows you to ssh back into the machine when it's online, even if it's behind NAT
b. echo "$(date) -- $(ifconfig | grep -A1 eth0 | grep inet | cut -d: -f2 | cut -f1 -d\ )" | ssh host 'cat - >> log'
c. scp a script FROM the server to the local machine and run it
d. scp a file containing some new information to the server
c is one of my favorites, as you can change the server script to alter what occurs on your stolen laptop, and you can just have a dummy script sitting there if before your laptop is stolen.
A, what you describe wouldn't happen. We don't have enough land for these roads to be constructed.
B, returning to what this analogy was based on we can see that, given infinite road expansion capabilities, this probably wouldn't happen. Compare the cell phone networks. They're all the same. There's very little difference between plans from one carrier or another carrier. Network quality differs only regionally; there is no network that has a universally better network, just as none of the Ford roadways would be any different from any of their competitors.
Not that I'm saying Skype's idea is good or bad, just that your ideas exist in the land of purist thought, not the land of reality.
Don't games usually get hard at the end? And shouldn't a failure to train adequately put you at a disadvantage?
Nobody ever said you could enter the game as a mage and completely ignore magic and succeed. Or that you could build all of your abilities equally so you basically don't have shit and you shouldn't have problems beating the game. Welcome to the world of RPGs.
They moved it to the floating toolbar on the left. It rather blends in with the left toolbar it's floating over, but it's there. Other's commented on this in the other replies to my original post.
That's a little bit different. In your story they have the original body part that was severed and were just keeping it alive. In the article they are talking about if, say, a finger were completely lost. It was cut/blown off and couldn't be retrieved. Making a new finger requires bone, muscle, tendon, cartilage for joints, nerves, etc. Creating all of these from scratch is something we've wanted to be able to do for years, and it looks like we're making steady progress towards that end
I am really loosing my patience with Nintendo...I wonder how many other people will buy another system instead because Wiis are no where to be found. That's really true, and I'm surprised at how long this period of shortage has lasted. On the flip side, however, every console launched by Sony and Microsoft has had shortages, and Nintendo came into this round with significantly higher stock-piles and production than it's competitors ever have. I agree with what you're saying, but I have more trouble blaming this on Nintendo's lack of ability to keep up--as I did with the XBox and XBox 360, both--because Nintendo is producing them so quickly already. For me, this whole scenario is extremely exciting and only makes me want one even more... but I guess I'm weird like that. I'm not much of a gamer anymore, so I don't "need" something to fill my time; I just want a damn Wii;)
Actually, the fact that you commented you might buy another system could very well mean you aren't the demographic Nintendo was after. They've been pretty clear that while they'd like the hard core gamer, they're really after people who aren't really gamers or people who are no longer gamers. I wouldn't even consider a 360 or a PS3 because that just feels "been there, done that" to me. It's not how I get my kicks these days.
Hmm.. reply to article link is missing. That's weird. This isn't a response to ubuntudupe...
and a persistent inability for Nintendo to keep units on the shelves has made it hard for gamers to sustain their enthusiasm for the system
Isn't Nintendo's inability to keep it on the shelf a sign that the excitement is still there? If the excitement were gone, would stores still sell out within days of recieving a shipment?
How about selecting based on the candidate's good qualities, not the bad qualities of the other candidates?
<cynicism>That must be what most of the American public does, and as such they don't show up for the poles. At least selecting negatively like that allows one to actually cast a ballet.</cynicism>
Oh, I certainly hope we do it and you guys don't bow to pressure. The ensuing battle might just be enough to wake up the general public to the absurdity that is the IIAA, RIAA, and MPAA.
Although, knowing Bush we'd probably just accuse you of harboring the tools necessary to commit acts of mass piracy and invade you to secure corporate interests. Wow, this really could turn out like South Park!
For $3,600, I think it's way over priced. Use a laptop, or home brew a similar device with a mcuh cheaper Zaurus: The Nokia 770 is $350. The N800 is $400. I run Kismet and Aircrack on my N800. Not sure what's special about the extra $3200 in software they've added. Someone should show their customers the price of the bare handheld!
The Zaurus would be nice if it was still in production. For use newbs, the Nokia series is attractive;)
Dude... that's quite a stretch... quite a stretch indeed.

They've decided to share it, and are looking for ways in which their separate iLingos can interoperate on their respective voice platforms.

No, that he commented he might buy an XBox instead, which is aimed at the usual gamer market.

RTFA, the couple had a $1200 radar gun camera combo setup. The radar did the speed and the camera automatically took pictures of offenders.

That's what "penis subincision" is for. Google it and be horrified.
Is this the same lady who was upset that the Wii was giving her children a false sense of the reality of sports?
Where do you live? If it's far away, would you be willing to purchase one and ship it to me? ;)
I haven't been following closely enough, but I knew something less than a week was a safe estimate without going under.

Thanks. I actually found it shortly after posting and felt like an idiot :-$. That slider really blends in with the side bar, now...
LMFAO! You sir, are a god among men! It's too bad the mods missed this post!
