freebsd now has support for openbsd's pf firewall.
i use freebsd, openbsd, and gentoo linux. i still like freebsd the most, but portage is nicer than ports. my annecdotal evidence for desktop usage of gentoo and freebsd puts freebsd in the lead.

"DHCP Client, automatic. Unnecessary on most home machines. Should be disabled by default." -from the article
ummm i think many home machines use dhcp to connect to the internet. this may be something which should not be disabled. just my thoughts
yeah, they dropped HPUX and now run Solaris and Redhat. if that answers your questions good, personally i hope they put some FreeBSD machines in there as that is my personal favorite.
wait wait wait. you're the mac as the server and freebsd as the client? i mean i would assume you would want it the otherway around. get the fancy gui on the desktop and put freebsd where its best, serving.
freebsd is an alright desktop, its what i am currently using, but i think mac still has it beat

Is Swap Necessary?

but one nice thing about swap is that when your system fails everything in RAM can be dumped into swap, this may help give you and idea about what caused the problem in the first place. however in your case keeping 3 gigs of swap around just in case your system fails probably isnt worth it. then again if you have 3 gigs of RAM you can afford a larger hard drive and put some swap on it.
no thats bullshit, its the publishing companies that take the risk in hopes of profiting. its a gamble for them, they invest in a game, advertise for it and then if it makes money, they make a lot, if not, they loose money. but in either case the publisher makes the decision to invest or not to invest.
from the article: One of the great things about doing these releases on a regular basis is that every two years, there is an opportunity to improve things.
as opposed to improving it every day?
yeah, but if someone else has your balls, and you want them back, theres a limited supply, (presumably two) and a demand (you.) it doesnt mean that the person with your balls wants them a lot. it just so happened that they came about them, and now that you want them there is a market for them.
you only need one person for an object to have value. an example is that of a family heirloom, no one else might want it, but it only has to be important to that one person to have value. and if they're rich the value may be quite high.
Well it seems it would be a lot like a job, especially if you have to play from 10 to 17 hours in it.
But i dont think the point of the game is to spend real money improving your character. It just happened to end up like that. what i find the most disturbing is the fact that some of these online worlds have higher gdp's than bulgaria. while bulgaria may not have that many people or money, its still a REAL country, not an imaginary one. I cant believe people spend *that* much money on this stuff.
NOTE: Using an alternate web browser may not mitigate this vulnerability. It may be possible for a web browser other than IE on a Windows system to invoke IE to handle ITS protocol URLs.
yeah its a bigger problem than just IE another web browser or email client may end up doing you in. best get off that windows box.;)

doesnt unix still run code from the 1970's or there abouts? just because its old doesnt mean it sucks. linux still runs code from its early days also.
just a question

yeah you definately have a good point, but the problem is most people dont seem to care so if there are increased sales people will assume that file sharing does increase profits. however they mistepped with the fudging the numbers thing. seriously it just makes them look a lot worse. they shoulda known better
yeah i think you're right, but people do not get pissed off if you say "Xwindow" whereas some people do get offended by "Xwindows." and they should too, because the later implies some attachment to microsoft. i think X(7) mentions this
X
X Window System
X Version 11
X Window System, Version 11
X11
sorry about the confusion
what are you talking about, dell sells computers with freedos on them. http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/compare.a spx/desktops_n?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd
they also say they have some with liunx on them. i dont see microsoft giving them the boot.
you forgot just plain cash, so you can buy it yourself. this is the option i prefer. then you dont have to be locked down to their choice in a gift and you dont have to go to best buy.
because people who know something can figure out that it works with *nix and the rest of the people wont buy it if it doesnt list their operating system. the majority will be of the later variety.
well thanks for bringing that up. i still think they are similar moves, because both companies are forcing their adopted standard onto the consumer, even though apple has less interest in forcing the consumer to use AAC. so while the companies situations are different, they are still both forcing consumers into their adopted standard. but then again, this is not necessarily bad, because both standards use better compression techniques than mp3s do.
thanks for responding to my post

Eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind.
is this true for laptops too? i've always heard that laptops get too hot quite often, and you shouldn't run them all the time.just wondering

yeah i dont think its that weird. the same thing happens for win xp vs freebsd on my laptop.

Here is a simple rule! If more than one person values something, you have a market.
why does it have to be more than one person?

not quite true youre not allowed to call it "XWindows" but "Xwindow" is ok.
you do realize they are providing fixes? what do you think all those fucking updates are about.
