This is why I run my own email server, I maintain 100% privacy on my emails and I don't have to worry about all these scar tactics. It may be a "post privacy society" but me for one, still keep privacy when ever I can.....

And sadly you need windows for Visio, frankly there is NOTHING out there that is truly better than Visio and is also supported by vendors (for stencils) such as, Cisco, HP, Juniper, BigIP and Foundry. I have tried the OSS versions of "Visio like" products, but they are pretty much awful applications. The darkest day for Engineers is when Microsoft bought out the company VIsio, and ruined their product. If it wasn't for Visio I would run RHEL WS every where.

  3. Interface on Are Windows XP/7 Users Smarter Than a 3-Year-Old? · · Score: 1

Learning an interface and liking and being productive with an interface are TWO DIFFERENT things (or concepts if you prefer). I am sure I could use Windows 8, however, there are features I like in Windows XP, and Windows 7 that I don't want to give up. I find it arrogant of ANYONE who thinks their interface can make we work better, that is MINE decision on what I feel makes me more productive. I am finding a lot of authors like one of this article, just a mindless Mircosoft Zealot.

  4. The Pri MS Bias here is sickening in this Article on The Windows 8 Power Struggle: Metro Vs Desktop · · Score: 1

I am all for honest reporting of tech news, but the bias here of pro Microsoft is sickening!! The author makes this new Metro sounds like thing since the invention of cell phones. Now, I don't mind if it is qualified, but comments like "in my opinion" but this article sounds like it was written by a MIcrosoft rep. (I am not anti-microsoft, I am even a MCITP) Now, I remember when Windows 7 came out and Microsoft came out and said there is no Classic StartMenu and all the Zealots out there telling people "to get on over it" and other more derogatory comments. However, some good programmers delivered Classic Startmenu via Classic Shell (on source forge). Why I am I bringing this out? Because, you know a programmer will be able to deliver both Desktop and Metro to users, just like they did for Classic Menu for Windows 7. What is even more insulting is the way that Microsoft thinks they know better than the user on what interface we want. I am really doubt if they even higher bonafide Human Design Engineers.

So long as my Classic Menu/shell (http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/) addon/hack still works, I *think* can tolerate the BS that is coming in Windows 8, but knowing MS they will also remove a bunch of the admin functions again like they did in WIN7

The downfall of scifi channel happen when USA sold it to NBC. IMHO

  10. LockMart's Failed attempt to duplicate Japan on Human Exoskeletons Getting Closer · · Score: 1

The LockMart solution is a pale attempt to duplicate what Japan has already started to mass product the HAL-5 System (Cyberdyne www.cyberdyne.jp) Which is 1000 different ways far superior to what LockMart is trying to produce. I know because I have had the actual misfortune of seeing a live demo, and it sucks, What we should have done is take the HAL-5 system as a core unit and then make it better, even convert it into a Mjolnir type of suit.... Or Better yet, kick LockMart off the contract and just give the contract to Cyberdyne for HAL-5 mass production units! IMHO

  11. Anything Better then Vista/Longhorn on New Version of Mac OS X Leopard Leaked · · Score: 1

I Look forward to seeing/beta testing this new version, frankly ANYTHING is better then Vista and Longhorn (for all you MS Zombies, I am a MCSE+Security and MSA and a Corporate Beta tester for both versions, so this isn't just Microsoft bashing, but emprical comments based on EXTENSIVE lab testing) Apple seems to have a much better way of doing things to include their Server Version of OS X which is rock solid and I love over Redhat and Fedora. I would like to see how the new version wil handle IPv6, since Micrsoft does an awful job, not to mention that their OWN programmers don't know their own stack. I am also curious if the new version of OS X will run on the intel chip or is it just on the RISC chip.

  12. Beta 2 is still not as good as claimed on Latest Vista Build Making Real Progress · · Score: 1

I have work with Vista BETA and frankly it still sucks in several areas:

    1) IPv6, the operating system still has a pretty sucky IPv6 stack, which even through netsh doesn't let you disable teredo or tunneling, even though the CLI says it is disabled, but when you run ethereal and actualyl see tht traffic it is not true. Also DHCPv6 is still not working, and many services that do work on the platform will only work on IPv4 not IPv6. Ipv6 security is still lacking, in fact, 95% of hardening that my company is using on our Vista IPv6 boxes is through our own testing, Microsoft programmers don't even know their OWN STACK!!!!!

    2) They still have fast user switching, and administrator and users can't disable that, which is a real problem, because me company goes by NSA security standards and NSA has documented that Fast User Switching is
a security risk because it does not provide a true seperation of users, this is also confirmed by Microsoft itseld.

    3)BLOATWARE, need more be said?

    4) Now, before any Microsoft Zealots start say I am a Micrsoft basher, I am a MCSE-Security+, so I am not making these statements just to bash Microsoft, but to clearly point out that Vista is not as good as many of the Microsoft Zealots will ahve you believe. Microsoft really went into the wrong direction, instead of making a leaner and meaner operating system they made a bloated fatman OS. That will just give more security headaches no only on IPv4 but on IPv6 as well.

Actually I am not beating the same drum for decades, from your reply you seem to be the senseless drone of a user that believes "just give me eye candy" I don't care if it works, fills my hard drive with bloat or even works securely! I think Windows2000 and Windows XP Pro were good platforms to some extent. I am merely stating clear facts of the platform, Mircosoft claims it is more secure, if that is so why did my penetration tools crack the system in 15mins?? I can tell you why, because they failed to fix the inherent problems in their platform. Also I am strongly concerned about SMP (from your reply you are likely a low end user who has no clue what SMP is,I'll explain, the ability to use dual processor boards)which I currently have on Windows XP platform, Microsoft has made no open statment on which verison will be supporting this feature. This is NO SMALL feature, which has a big impact on upgrade.

Your reply totally missed the heart and intent of my comments, your reply is typical of any Microsoft Zealot. I would have respect your comments more if you asked what penetrations tests did I run, what penetration tools did I use, etc.... atleast then this could be debated on an unbias intellectual level, please not that several beta testers in this thread have made very similiar comments as I have had.....

  14. Sorry to be a skeptic on Why Vista Won't Suck · · Score: 1

I have read this article and well as been in as many deep discussions that the NDA I have w/ Microsoft will let me go into. Frankly I am very unimpressed with how Microsoft is rolling out so many verisions. I ask Micrsoft which version will provide my MPS (dual AMD) support and the same security (as a baseline) that Windows PRO gives me, and Microsoft can't even answer a simple question like that. I was told it may be in the Enterprise line, but an individual can't buy the Enterprise line retail! The Vista Enterprise can only be obtained thru the MS software assurance program! So if you if you are running a dual CPU workstation (intel or AMD) your are screwed when it comes to Vista retail versions!

Also I have seen a lot of claims on how Vista will be so great, the fact is, will all the embedded BLOATWARE that MS has placed within Vista I can foresee that Vista will be even easier to hack and expliot then the XP platform. I have worked on the beta versions of Vista and have not found it any more secure than XP, in fact my exploit and penetration software has bene able to gain full control of Vista in under 15mins and that is under the most secure settings that vista has to offer (on their current beta builds)

So I would give a word of caution not to be so wrapped up in the Vista hype.

    IMHO

  15. IT made it's own problems on What's the Point of IT Certifications? · · Score: 1

The reason for certifications is because the IT realm failed to regulate itself and set high standards. For example, in Medical and Legal fields to practice you need to have both a college education and pass a state and somtimes a national board. Self study is not accepted, thus, in doing so set a standard for employers and customers to judge a person's qualifications. In Information Technology, since there are no state or nation boards, and frankly ALL college IT programs are really sub-standard, the only way to determine an IT Professional's worht is thru certifications. Personally I would rather have to pass one state or national board than trying to keep up the the 30 something certifications I must obtain in order to keep my job. IMHO Liger-Zero
