but machines can't do this... not without making the same leaps of faith that we human beings take for granted so often. and while everyone knows this, they still try and make the machines dumber.

yes, i do mean dumber. machines (as now) are extremely smart; they don't make mistakes. so this means that while you are reading anything, including this post, you are making many mistakes. it is only by making these mistakes that you're able to read this.

How can you say dumber? English isn't like a programming language, it's a living language; it changes all of the time. What you consider "incorrect english" is slowing becoming the de-facto standard. Training computers to understand what a strange set of changing rules the English language is can not be construded as making it "dumber"; I say completely the other way. That's what makes Humans so cool, they can recognize patterns and gleen understanding from it despite how many "mistakes" are in it.

The thing that does suck is that they didn't disclose their names in the first place. This has been under close scrutiny by the public eye so much lately, anything they do seems sinister.

Or you can have the other situation, when lines of communication haven't been defined well enough.
One of my biggest gripes is people from marketing or product coming up to me and asking me to do something. Not just small favors, but large changes in functionality in my code. Me, as a software engineer, would like to hear these types of things from my managers, not some random marketiods. And my managers are hands-off type guys, which is generally a good thing, but when I don't hear *anything* from that direction it's somewhat disconcerting. This is an endless source of frustation for me.
The only thing I'm extrememly happy about is that my managers don't micro-manage me like my last job. What's the point of me sitting there while a manager looks through my code for 2 hours..? Just leave me alone to code in peace! :)

Sorry but IMHO this series should have been dead and buried after Tim Burton left.
Maybe this new director can breath life back into this rotting corpse of a series (I've never seen PI) but I'm not holding my breath.
After all, Jean-Pierre Jeunet of Delicatessen and City of Lost Children fame (two of my most favorite movies) was flown in to breath new life back into the Alien series with Alien: Resurrection and that was the worse piece I've seen in a while. Kind of makes you depressed, don't it?
I would imagine many movie execs would like to have a say in how the movie should be made.
Don't give in to the dark side and go see Way of the Gun instead.
