    How about QT from trolltech, its a great set of C++ libs, that is built with a solid OO base. Its under the GPL of course and you can create GUI's for Win,Linux,OSX,IRIX,Solaris, yada,yada,yada. Great tool.

    How about some CD's (or wallet CD's) that have open source software on it. You can get them started with the OpenCD, then Damn Small Linux, then maybe Knoppix. Try demo'ing them.

    Living in a border town, just wanted to give you a heads up, there is such a thing as an S-Mart in Mexico. Its more Safeway than K-Mart or Sears.

    Working for a company that builds Patriot Missile simulations I can't agree more. Average speed of TBM's coming in are in excess of 1.5 km/s. Some of these come in from so high that the Patriot radar cannot pick them up in time, its possible that the ground impact point was behind the patriots and the incoming scud was coming in to steep to be tracked locally. Also if you consider closing speeds of two missiles coming at each thats some pretty decent calculattion work being done.

    As far as fiction writing goes Brown's books are getting better and better, A & D and TDVC are his later books and most people enjoy them (myself included) besides he's not writing specifically for the 1.2% of us who are geeks and willing to fight over his choice of words for describing public key encryption. He's growing as a writer his books are getting better. BTW anybody read Holdy Blook Holy Grail? It reads like a history book but is interesting.

    A good choice might be Media Temple http://www.mediatemple.net. They offer plenty of goodies including MySQL, PHP, Flash, e-mail & aliasing, SSH login, and web-based control of all services, even page editing. Service has been reliable and quick with me. Check it out.
