    It's highly addictive, 'expert users' say it's much better than sex (it makes you not want the real thing anymore) and if everyone was using it the human race *would* go extinct.

    It's called heroin...

    As always, nature was much faster than our ideas. If anything deserves patents, it's nature...
    It immediately illustrates why some things/research would better be left alone...

    ...a few years ago. I wrote a small, insignificant article back then on virusses and the ever increasing computer power (both speed-wise as size-wise) at our disposal. I figured that, taken these two facts, it would not take too long for someone to use that power to 'bootstrap' virusses that were immensely powerful. Call it 'cluster-virusses'. Noone would notice a virus of say 1 Mb in size, and in this virus one could install numerous other small virusses that each did it's own devastating task.
    The fact that it is "malware" and not a "virus" only means that some commercial use has been made of the virus.
    I hope this is a single event, but I fear we have not seen the last of this troubling development.

    First indications of this will be when you find that the mouse has spend all night eating cheese from your mousetrap, while blocking the spring with a piece of wood.

    Or, he could be lifting the poison you laid on the ground straight to your cornflakes....

    Apart from this, the thing that would most worry me is a meriad of mice dancing on my table, while operating the remote control of my audio set...

    Frankly, apart from the other reply to this post, I would believe that in this case the only safe way would indeed be to leave one state as it origined.
    If you "fix" both states, you could end up with 100% certainty that both states are wrong, whereas with 1 state fixed you always have 50% chance of this being the case. Do the math and find out what would be best.

    I didn't : when I said that "it is only interesting for presentations" I mean the "in-air function".
    And yes, that is exactly the function that is useless for a prolonged period.
    Your desktop use doesn't change anything to that fact - I might as well use my Logitech optical.

    It's the same thing as the Gyromouse.

    I saw the Philips version of this gyromouse once for the cheap price of 15 dollars and didn't even consider it.
    Who wants to keep his hand in the air all the time, apart from the presentation every now and then ?
    Every heard of RSI ?

    The only nice thing I can think for it is some throwing game (darts :) where you can throw the phone to simulate a dart....
    Probably not a very good idea :)

    Then again, this new LSD will probably be very nasty when it produces that very clear and bright image on your screen - in that you can't see it after 10 minutes of working.

    But laser holograms would be possible - allowing a clear "Leia" like projection with high-resolution 'static' lasers, instead of high speed scanning lasers.

    ... a few weeks ago, my nephew showed his Ipod FM transmitter he got with him from the States. It's quite neat, and the power is low enough not to disturb your neighbours' radio. But, in The Netherlands it's not allowed (though I don't see how the 'radio controle dienst' (dutch FCC) will find out about it, as people mostly use it in cars.

    In other news, frequencies for radio-transmitters in the FM-range where auctioned last year for a few billion euro's. In the end, it's all a money thing.

    I have put my own harddrive in my laptop. When I leave my job for a new employer (which is forthcoming), I will take my harddrive with me.

    Ofcourse I will format it...
