Unplug any external USB hard drives, especially if they USED to have a system and now only contain data, but you never reformatted them, and only erased files via the Trash.
Try rebooting afterwards, and you'll start up just fine. People really waited HOURS?!? Wow, what a bunch of Geniurds....
It's the same boot issue that occurs when a windows machine has USB set to boot ahead of the CD ROM or HD, and you put an empty keychain in the USB slot - it hangs.
I had this problem, as soon as I rebooted with no USB HD, things went fine. This is, of course, on an Intel Mac...
On a Core (non-2) Duo, the wireless networking driver for Boot Camp will recognize your Airport Extreme 802.11g as an 802.11n, but since it isn't, you will not have wireless connectivity.
This will show up if you have a Core (non-2) Duo and an Airport Extreme with 802.11n support, since the Airport device always broadcasts the 802.11n signal.
This is mandated by an FCC regulation. As soon as I read through the teeny-tiny 11 point type, I realized that they were hiding the opt-out provision in a bunch of legal gobbledygook. I am sure that 99% of the people who received this threw it away without a second thought.
The details of this opt-out provision are buried about halfway through the document. It took longer to find the information in the document than to actually opt out.
i just bought a replacement LCD display for my Apple laptop on eBay that was $200 less than anything offered anywhere else. Last month I bought an AC adapter, same thing. These were made in and shipped from China, and I got a great deal on both.
I agree that it is better to buy from individuals than big shippers, but these both were from big shippers and saved more than 40% compared to anything else I could find...
of illegally downloaded material. Heck, all illegally downloaded material is downloaded ON A COMPUTER. Alert the media - I sense a hysteria-spawning opportunity here...
i agree. i voted for webb, convinced many others to do so as well.
at least with macaca boy, you KNEW what you were getting - I thought webb was a man of character.
i met with a group of citizens in webb's richmond office to discuss net neutrality. we passionately made our case. we never got as much as a phone call in return.

by law, any debt more than 7 years old cannot be sued for in court. you still owe it, they still trash your credit, but they cannot initiate collection (garnishment, etc) after seven years...
the trick is hiding for seven years so they cannot find you . . .
As the govt sees it, if you download using P2P you are also sharing with thousands of other people, and this is the logic they will use to come after people with this law. Ironic considering what a crook Gonzales is...
With global warming and increasing greenhouse gases, satellite coverage is going to become more difficult. I guess predator drones could do it, but then, terror will always strike on rainy days . . .
See the (somewhat lame) movie "The End Of Violence" for another take on surveillence. Wim Wenders . . .
i knew someone with an appleshare server with a drive that run continiously from 1990 until it was finally replaced in 2003. 13 years! Quantum drive in an Apple SCSI case. They do not make them like they used to . . .
the fun part for me about second life is going where few people are and enjoying the scenery. it is amazing what people come up with - some of it is tacky and some is ugly, but some of it is downright amazing.
i've chatted with a few people, but mostly i wander around and don't make trouble - i find it somewhat hypnotic.
Don't understand why everyone hates this guy so much (Eran). He's amusing and occasionally literate, certainly more insightful than Ron Pergaro or Cringley. I am fairly certain that some of the spamming attributed to him is being perpetrated by others who just don't like him very much.
I have the FiOS service from Verizon & I love it. The NSA can read my e-mail five times faster than before, and secret messages from the middle east never get held up in transmission!
Seriously though, it is a great service and only $39.95 / month. I am not as happy that they took away my POTS copper wire phone line and now route my phone service over the fiber. if the power is off more than a day, I suspect that the UPS that Verizon installed will be depleted and I will have no phone service.
Yes, I could use my (Verizon) cell, but remember what happened to cellular service in NYC on 9/11.
I am sad to see the traditional phone networks replaced with new technology - sometimes (most times?) newer is NOT better.
that's not true - i've pulled drives and even memory before sending iMacs in for warranty service - apple called to say 'you know, there's no hard drive or memory in this iMac' - they were annoyed that they had to put in their own to test it, but it was a bad motherboard, and was replaced without question . . .
Sorry, Symantec let a trojan infect our entire office network, and Avast was the only thing that saved us from having to reinstall windows on 35 PCs.
I have never had any infections using Avast, and lots using Symantec.
Dr Charles Forbin. This is one of the only 'computer' movies I have ever liked. I remember seeing it in the 70s as a kid and it profoundly influenced me to go into IT.
A good computer movie where no systems were harmed in making the movie - quite the contrary.
(1) you will install (your own) XP/Vista using Boot Camp then . ..
(2) DON'T bother authenticating the XP/Vista install, (just to piss off m$, because . ..)
(3) OS X 10.5 looks at DLLs, etc loaded by the install in the NTFS partition that are needed to execute Win32s, runs them in an application window, under OS X 10.5 in 'protected' mode but ignores M$ DRM/authentication, then . ..
(4) Apple will release OS X 10.5 for ALL (non-Apple) Intel hardware so that developers will continue to develop for the (now much larger) OS X app market and finally . . .
(5) Apple will allow OS X 10.5 to run BOOT CAMP & XP/Vista Win32s on ALL (non-Apple) Intel hardware WITHOUT authenticating installation of XP/Vista, followed by. ..

just wait 7 years - debt older than 7 years is not collectible in court - unless owed to the IRS or college loans

Little Snitch on OSX works great at tracking / blocking outbound traffic.
