I believe without BBS's we probably wouldn't be where we are today.. I believe they pioneered the way for some of the modern internet commucations that exsit today..
photoshop for OSX seems a lot more stable and less bloated on my mac then it does on my windows machine, (windows machine = 1ghz with 1gig of ram, mac = 500mhz with 768 of ram)
Microsoft is basically afraid because Apple has openly admitted their old OS wasn't so great, and the new MacOS has everyone switching to a Mac.. I used to hate mac's but now I use one for every day tasks, even work.. Microsoft may try a switch campaign, and they will get people to do it.. but for every switch ad microsoft makes, 500 more people just bought a mac and ditched their old PC's which can't run XP.
Microsoft wants to always be at the top, well when people burn their software and give it to others, isn't that helping them stay on top? They have tried serial numbers, phone/net activation, all of that.. but somehow people keep getting copies of 2k and XP, GEE GOLLY! I wonder how! microsoft does not have the smartest minds working for them, this isn't AntiTrust the movie.. they have normal people (maybe?) who think up ideas after other normal people (dunno) have already figured out a way for x to beat y in their protection..
Lindows was started with hopes to get big and blast in to the Linux community with open arms.. for the majority of the first year or more not many give them any credit. Now Lindows is signing contracts here or there, putting copies on cheap walmart PC's, and to themselves they are on top of the world right now. Lindows should be careful about stressing things when they are still "so new", as it could seriously proove bad later on.
What about apps like iTunes, or iCal... wonder if those will work.. if it can do graphical apps, keep in mind there is Office v.X for MacOS X.. does this mean Word on BSD?!
I believe popup-banners and all the pop-unders etc.. have played a large part in poluting the internet AD industry, and made most all of us bitter and ad-unfriendly.
At one time banner ads thrived, you could sell them on a popular site and make thousands, or you could spend a little and get a lot elsewhere.
Now in 2003, banner ads are looked down at. Most of us either ignore the ads and don't even pay attention to them, or we block them with certain tools.
TextAds are not to shabby tho, providing basic detail in a non-pictorial format just to let us know what it is and a link to learn more about it.
Google, by providing Textads and not huge 468x60 banners, has kept their site clean and no cluttered.
Sites like Slashdot, Yahoo, and many more are slowly realizing banners are not producing enough UNF to pay the bills, and are resorting to subscriber based services like Yahoo Personals, or Slashdot's subscriptions.
I could never afford the fancy lincense fees for NT, therefore I got in to Linux.. Now my entire company is filled with Linux servers and the desktops are Mac's with OSX.
We have one tech, which maintains everything, and therefore I know first hand that Linux is cheaper to use, run, and support then Windows.
When they did their closed source beta trials of Corel Linux, in which you had to sign an NDA they were hit with claims of violating the GPL
Also this blurb i found on google
Since discrimination is prohibited by the General Public License (GPL) which covers most of the base Linux code and support programs, it is quite likely that Corel is blatantly violating the Linux license.

Privacy is only as good as you allow it to be :)
Well there goes my $50 bucks.. life on mars does exist..
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't UT have one of the best CS departments? and this couldn't be prevented?
Would a move like this really help Microsoft in the console market?
Will our tax dollars pay to renew the domains which have been taken over by the government?
I surely didn't vote for that.. OH WAIT! I have no rights! I'm just another tax payer..

apple needs to get Tenacious D, Microsoft needs to get Bill Clinton and that guy from 7-11 down the street..

Another prime example would be Salon.com.
The dotcom boom is long over, and will never be the same again... Look at how we view TV commercials!

I prefer mysql, now that its GPL'd software
I bought an iPod because not only was it a nifty device to play my mp3's with, but it also looks pretty :)

That doesnt sound too good if they have violated it.. I believe Lindows made the same mistake, as did Corel..
