So I understand this is for games but, could this help scientific research such as molecular dynamics or other physics simulations? What is the accuracy? What type of calculations can it speed up?
As far as I can tell, Princeton University has no part in this experiment. The Princeton University Store, a bookstore that is located on the edge of the campus but is not affiliated with the University, will be the entity offering DRMed textbooks. The DRM company's press release tries to leave the impression that Princeton University itself is involved, but this appears to be incorrect.
The mouse thing I agree with you on, but try taking any random off the shelf video, sound, network, tv, usb widget, etc. and plug it into a windows or mac (especially mac) and lets see if it works flawlessly with out having to at least install some drivers. Last time I checked you couldn't just buy any old video card for macs, they had to be special for the mac. If there was a special gnu/linux video card, I bet it would work with a minimum of effort.
I, as a tax paying citizen, have already paid as much as I should have to in order to use my public library anyway I want (as long as my use does not dirupt the rights of other tax paying citizens to use the library as well of course).
One of the advantages of using software that makes the source code available is that you are able to "correct" things like this. You could add a feature to the configuration where you could choose what happens after you delete a message. If you are not a programmer, you might have friends who are who could implement this for you. You could probably send an email to the evolution mailing list and say "Hey! I really want this feature. I'll pay the first person to add this to evolution $X." Or if you didn't feel comfortable with that maybe "Hey! I really want this feature. I'll make a donation of $X to the FSF (or any nice charity for that matter) when this has been implemented." Make the FOSS development model work for you!
If space militarization comes to fruition, I think the average American would be more pissed off because they can't watch American Idol 2020 becuase some other country/group blew up all the television saltilites then the terrorist attacks in 2001.
I realize that you are attempting to make a joke through the association of forth of July fire works displays and previous shuttle explosions. I realize "this is slashdot" but i find your attempt at humor rather crude. The astronauts who died in those explosions gave their lives for education, the advancement of science and the betterment of human kind. I would hope that someone who frequents slashdot.org who have more respect for them than you have demonstrated.
What about hurd? How hard would it be and how long would it take to swich to hurd? How many programs interact directally with the linux kernel that would need to be rewritten for hurd?
Part of the beauty of free software is that, if you have the capacity, you can modify it to your needs. So my first responce would be, if you don't need a feature don't compile it into your kernel. Some however, who don't have the capacity to modify thier kernel, might benifit is distributions included multiple kernels, say one optimized for a server, desktop, or laptop. I think that this is an issue for distributions (Redhat, Suse, and friends) and not the kernel team.
What if there was consequences for having sex with the prostitutes? Lets say that if you have sex with a prostitute in the game you have certain probability of contracting a sexually transmitted disease. This disease would slowly decrease your health throughout the game unless you purchased expensive medicine or robbed the free clinic every now and then. The probability of contracting a STD could be higher for bad parts of the city. You could even pass the disease on to other prostitutes.
Also what if each prostitute had a pimp. If you kill the prostitute her pimp will get mad and come after you if he ever sees you in the game. Or the rest of the prostitutes who belong to that pimp won't service you.
However, my guess is that even if there were real-world-like in-game consequences people would still complian.

1. Don't elect someone like Bush again. 2. (Science) Profits no need for ???
In a purely platonic way of course.

"Project Gutenberg Made Accessible"
Oh, the irony that is slashdot.
I am sure this has been the topic of an internal RIAA memo, or two!
