fuck you, dont tell me how i should my my wikipedia. if you want a boring ass traditional encyclopedia, fuck off and go look at Britannica. it's not as though wikipedia can be cited as a reference for anything important, so why they hell shouldnt it aim to cover anything and everything?
thanks for the tip. just been playing with it scaling things up and down. scaling up (>1.0) seems to work reasonably well but shrinking stuff (for the low res powerbook screen) isnt so good. looking forward to trying this out on the high res CRT at work on monday
resolution independence was supposed to be one of the big features of leopard way back when it was initially announced but it's not been mentioned in the last year or so of "previews". what the hell happened to it? I was really looking forward to having an insanely high resolution resulting in everything being far sharper, instead of just smaller.
Your only legitimate gripe is that Gmail doesn't allow you to have the e-mail be archived by default after you apply a folder/label to it
perhaps it used to work like that but if that's the case it's been fixed now. I have filters doing exactly this. if email matches condition X, apply label Y and archive it.
on further thought, perhaps you mean when you manually apply labels in which case, yes, it's not automatic then
yay, now along with being stuck in traffic every morning, you also get the pleasure of waiting for your turn to use the damn lift every morning before you can even leave home.
i'm sure if other_operating_systems[] get to more than 10%...
stats in this past weeks news have said that mac market share is at around 8%. i find it hard to believe that linux+freebsd doesnt at least have 3%. im pretty sure that the 10% threshold has already been breached
You are talking about command line completion. I was talking about point to focus.
well, actually my point 3 was meant to line up with with your third bullet list item (Why oh why does Mac Os have capitalized system directories which are a bitch to type? Just not to break the "System Folder" tradition? And to annoy developers?) but i typed my reply somewhat out of order
it sounds like you bought a mac when you wanted linux based pc. dont worry, it's a common mistake usually made by window users trying linux for the first time too (except expecting it be work like windows instead). if you expect everything to work like %SYSTEM_X you should probably just use $SYSTEM_X and be done with it
point 1: nope, it's not something I've tried
point 2: nope, i dont do perl
point 3: echo "set completion-ignore-case On" >> ~/.inputrc i use this on every *nix machine, makes typing file names on case sensitive file systems less of a pita
re: the hibernate, you're right, there's nothing in the gui put the macbook into hibernation. it can be done from the command line (dont use that if you're using encrypted disks, i think you need mode 3 or 5 but im sure you can google for it), personally i feel it's unnecessary and a bit of a throwback from people with experience with other OS's with unreliable or power hunger sleep modes. i'd rather lose 10-20 minutes of battery life every ~24hr slept and have my laptop usable in an instant, than have to wait several minutes for 2gb of data to be read back from the hdd into ram before I can use the thing. there arent many occasions where I'd need my laptop and not have access to a powerpoint for over 3 hours
agree 100%. i could never understand why the hollow-headed idiots i got stuck with for university group work always insisted on doing EVERYTHING in word documents. minutes for a meeting -> word document. list of tasks and who's doing them -> word document. diagram of -> word document.
they'll all go out to industry and be good little microsoft consumers
perhaps its a faulty assumption, but I'd assumed that "minimal power usage" would (amongst other things) be restricting it to one core whilst "performance" would have no such restriction
so, tell me how i can get this free codec for my ipod/car stereo/dvd player/toothbrush? oh, whats that? I cant? I need to buy new hardware? well shit, perhaps this aint so different to the betamax/vhs thing after all
wtf mate? mac os has configurable settings for running off power adaptor and battery that are invoked by plugging and and unplugging the cord. if yours doesn't work I'd be taking it back to have it replaced rather than whining one/. about it
ah, first I'd heard of it was when I watched the videos on steam when I was about to buy the orange box a few days ago. Looks fantastic and I'm so glad they're not trying to cobble multiplayer onto it. more devs need to learn that not every game needs multiplayer modes
the correct response when asked about upcoming price drops is "no comment". flat out lying is only going to piss off the customers who get burnt because they believe what the companies execs say.
Yeah I would have preferred halo trimmed by about 50% since thats how much filler you had to go through to play the unique or interesting parts.
+1. I think 50% is proably being generous.i only ever got a few hours into halo because i found it dull and unnecessarily repetitive. from what i played it seemed like for every hour of gameplay, 40 minutes was spent playing filler. some gamers seem to love filler, I call them jocks. I suspect their thinking is something along the lines:"oh, wow! more of the same! this is great because its so easy, I already know how to do this bit! woo!".
disclaimer: not a sony fanboy. I dont own or want a PS3. I think the thing is a pile of crap. but halo is really, really dull.
"Trent Reznor", who is only one guy (dunno about the rest of the band).
interesting fact that I found out a little while back, there is no "rest of the band". in the studio trent plays everything you hear on the cds. he assembles a different band each time "they" tour.
Not me, I love a good 212 (base 3) :P

yeah, it's definitely a problem. its a bit of a shame that you can get a higher dpi on many 15" laptop than you find on most 19" desktop lcds

if i had to guess i'd say "old dog" and "new tricks". personally I love labels/tagging

for the record i have a macbook (!pro)

im not disagreeing with you (I have no idea about it), but what makes you certain portal will be short?
if all you want is episode 2, then buy just episode 2 by itself for $29.95. nobody is forcing you to buy the orange box
