But they did have a holodeck, eventually. Didn't you ever see the animated series? There was one episode where they went to the holodeck, and I remember McCoy at the controls. Instead of the TNG 'Arch', it was some washing-machine type setup. IIRC, Kirk or someone fell down a trap set in the forest. So much for safety protocols.
There a difference, something I kinda didn't realize until I actually saw the US and Canadian versions of a CD side by side. Apparently they were different, and the hauled-north US one was twice the price. Granted most of the time the things are exactly the same, and noones the wiser.
And when it comes to singles, they will be expensive. We don't have a singles market in Canada. No one buys them, so they don't sell them. If you really want a Single, it's usually an american import at C$20, or a British one at $35
Isn't that the shuttle-clone they produced (kinda like their condorde-clone, which is now available for purchase... linked off Metafilter a week or two ago)?
IIRC, It's now sitting in downtown Moscow, in a public square, open to the public.
UMAX Astra 2000U scanners don't work... apparently UMAX won't release details. They're the kind off USB scanner that only has software controls, even for things like turning off the lamp:( I'm always afraid if I leave it on in linux the lamp will burn out. The SANE page regarding them isn't really all that helpful. Of course, UMAX's software is only for Windows and Mac.
I guess the distinction is really between 'can't' and 'don't' then. The hardware doesn't care what OS it's under.
Lol... the Princeton Professor asking Mel Lastman to "Stop the Toronto Seal Hunt", or George W. Bush congratulating Prime Minister 'Jean Poutine' on his re-election...
The warship was running Windows NT (albeit customized). IIRC, the reason for the systems crash was that someone entered a 0 into an entry field in some user app, causing a division by 0, and bringing the whole bloody ship down. Having a ship dead in the water from that is kinda lame.
These watches were also publicised in Canada be appearing on The Shopping Channel (TSC). They had the whole range... MP3 watch... Camera Watch.. 'Million Sensors' watch. I really don't know what one could do with a low-res B/W camera. It was hillarious to hear the hosts babble on about 'taking pictures to remember where your car is parked'. That was the best they could manage. I'd rather spend (And did) the money on a nice Palm Pilot.
In fact, the southernmost point in Canada (Pelee Island IIRC) is as far south as northern California. I think it would be just as fair to say that Mars would resemble the US's climate (referring to Alaska). If you're gonna make fun of Canada, don't bring up Igloos. Bring up Stockwell Day... damn Jetskin' lumberjack.
RASPPPOE is great. I used it while setting up a DSL connected Dell laptop (with a wacky Xircom 56k Modem/Ethernet combo card).
The software that Sympatico gave me was not, of course, playing nice with the Win2k/wierd card setup. RASPPPOE was pretty simple. I just set it to load the connection upon boot, and the rather computer illiterate owner doesn't have to 'maintain the traditional dialup experience' as the PR blurb on PPPOE states.
XF4.0 Didn't work with a bunch of Cirrus cards. Specifically, the GD546x cards generated a few usenet posts after XF4.0 came out. I had much trouble with a GD5465.
LICQ does have some keyboard shortcuts. Of course, you have to get it in focus. Windows versions of ICQ are nice in that the scope of the keyboard shortcuts are global.
ICQ2000a has moved more towards the AOL 'one window per conversation' model. I still like the normal ICQ interface. If I have 13 conversations, i don't need all the windows open at once.
lmao. Speaking as a high schooler (and one who, sadly, seems to be among the minority laughing while reading this post), I really can't take this seriously. I love these kind of trolls.
Where are you getting this from? First hand experience? I'm sure that if you were a little more clear, I would take you a little more seriously (And please, Kids, or High-Schoolers. Pick ONE). There is an obvious separation between a random kid off the street, and your capable SoftIce user reverse-engineering a game. Most 'kids' don't cheat. Most cheaters I know tend to be Windows and Mac users downloading an executable, and blindly clicking. And most cheaters I know have grown out of it, just as they've grown out of flooding the hopeless goofs on #eggchat. Kids will be Kids, no matter what decade they're growing up in.
Yes, new technology is cool, (or k3w1, if you're a 'kid') but you overestimate the impact of free software on the country. Linux is great, but it's impact on (I'm guessing, due to your wonderfly savant tone) american teenage society? Go buy a Britney Spears CD. I somehow Richard Stallman is driving her 'Crazy'
Except that Microsoft, with their huge pile of cash, might take the same route that Sony does and sell the boxes as loss leaders
And if this is true, why are we complaining? The Slashdot community has a history of exploiting such loss-leading hardware. The whole TiVo and I-Opener hacking exploits were well covered here. And even when there was an attempt to port NetBSD to the Dreamcast.
This seems like a nice opportunity for something fun:) Obviously, this is a dedicated graphics machine (Maybe not the ideal production webserver), but as it's a game-console, there might be no need for a restrictive service package to limit us. I-Opener had it's mandatory ISP service. What is MS gonna do? Perhaps there will be an MSN-type thing, but that doesn't mean that it'll be mandatory (What if you like single player RPGs).
We'll just have to wait and see the price point for this thing. I'm waiting for the fun to begin.
I noticed that too. The car on eBay, 'built for CSN', apparently cost 350k to build. However, the pics are hte same as for the 61k car? It's far less cool if everyone gets to be Speed Racer... I mean, who gets Trixie?

Have they recovered from yesterday? This thing was mentioned in the Quickies...
ICQ has many workable keyboard shortcuts. Originally there was a plugin that you could use to allow keystrokes to simulate actions (like double-clicking on the taskbar)... It was alright, except for the fact that some CTRL-* commands didn't go well with Netscape. I can't remember it's name. Anyways, since version 99a, there is integrated support for keyboard shortcuts. Mostly CTRL-SHIFT-*. Shouldn't be too hard for you keyboard junkies. And it does work well.
Hey, there is IE for Solaris. They don't exactly have to get it right on the first try. This is still an M$ derivative company we're talking about. Because they were split of doesn't mean they'll suddenly be producing quality software.
They'll get a Linux version of IE out the door as fast as possible, and fix it later. The Linux community has been rooting for projects like WINE for a while. Trust the Software company to use any available means to get the obligatory 'Linux' press releases.
Well, I'm sure he likes to think of himself as 'normal folk'. Like it or not, Bill honnestly believes himself to be righteous... We all know how devious he is, but he doesn't.
I agree with the Ambrosia bit. Escape Velocity was such a fun game. All my friends were Mac-Heads, so I was introduced. Played it on Ardi's Mac emulator while running in Windows. THAT's class. The mods were shallow, but cruising around in a Super Stardestroyer is a Good Thing(R). I never got into EV:Override though. Too _much_ of a good thing.
I have many a friend into mp3, and I really don't think any payed for them ^_^ These people are all adolescents, and would normally be out pumping money into the Label's coffers, but instead I can log onto their ftp servers, and find hundreds of songs they just got off Napster. And it's not all 133t d00dz boasting about how many thousand they have. Mp3's are replacing CD's entirely for them. If they ever needed a CD, they'd burn it. These people are 'growing up' with the concept of free, readily availible music.
I'm not boosting the RIAA or anything (CD's are far too expensive for my liking), but what mp3 stands for really is a clear and present threat for the labels, and they damn well take it seriously. Are any of my friends gonna have 'second thoughts' and go out and buy a CD because The Smashing Pumpkins are losing money? No. Are they gonna go back to paying a lot of money for one or two songs they like (Canada doesn't have a real singles market). They ain't goin back
Not speaking english as a first language does that effect on people. At least they made the effort. I admire them for that, considering the lousy french I possess after years of training.

Just use Napigator. Very useful for the great unwashed. I use the BitchX Opennap server myself, but apparently others are more popular.

Nabisco isn't in the same position! Were you not listening when the Findings of Fact were released? Crackers are a world away from an IP monopoly.
