Where is this LAW that is in the US? As I am a small Pro-Audio Company... I play whatever the hell i want to on my speakers. I have to be able to play different forms of music on the speakers if the customer requests it...
Also whats to say its an indepentant CD that has been release? Bought directly from the band? no lable involved? whats to stop me from playing it? Or what if its my own personal Songs that I've written and recorded. Are they going to tell me i have to have a lisence to play my own damn songs??
My favorite educational entertainment device was 'Stick'.
Stick was great. I could put a crab able on the end and observe centrifical force and mechanical advantage. I could balance it on my hand to improve coordination. I could throw it and chase my dog to build muscles and stamina. I could charge my evil brother with it like charging into battle like King Arthur like in the stories and legends taught to me. I could share my stick with my friends to learn cooperation.I could combine my stick with my friends' sticks to make a fort.
Ahhh, the simple joys of Stick.

As a Person who works in the Pro Audio Field it drives me nuts looking for a MP3 Player that will even do most of the stuff i want it to do. I see the iPod as a thing for people that just want to plug and play. But why not make an iPod for us people that WANT all the bells and whistles crammed in it? You already keep making smaller ones, and with color screens. Why not a Pro Audio one?
Here's a list of things they could implement in this version of the iPod Pro
AUDIO INPUT JACK: I don't want to plug an adaptor in to use it. I don't want to share with the Headphone jack. How am i suppose to monitor my mix thats being recorded when i'm using the headphone jack to recoard? I just want it right there. Balanced 1/8th" input is all i ask. would be nice for SPDIF but hey i'm not that picky, and if i'm recording on it i probobly don't plan on it being high quality. Also record in multiple formats. Ogg, Wav, MP3, etc.
Add OGG Support: Maybe I'm missing this. Haven't looked at what an Ipod plays lately.... (not with the iPod Photo's and Nano's.
FM Transmitter: Heck i wanna hear the Weather sometimes... instead of finding a paper/going online etc. Or if i'm in the mood for something that i don't have on my iPod (Which would be hard because i have everything from louis armstrong to System of a Down) but its still possible.
3rd party support: I know its not going to happen. but i can dream one day an iPod will work with winamp without a 3rd party plug-in made by a student in grad school on his time off. or better yet instead of Winamp or any other audio program just pop up as a Hard Drive and let me transfer stuff onto it that way. (Long shot i know. wouldn't fit their business plan, but hey I can still dream)
Customizable EQ: Not sure if they offer this.... I mean just a 13 band EQ would be fine. I'm not asking for a full 31 band... but something more than just a "Treble" and "Bass" option... or pre-made ones... I like to tweak my music. Let me have that freedom. Also let me save it as a pre-set.
I know i'm dreaming. But until i find something that meets my needs i just don't walk around with one.
Anyone else have any other ideas for what Apple should put on an iPod to finish out the audio options?
If you want a visual i might reccomend using M$ Viso and Racktools my Middle Atlantic.... usualy has nice diagrams of what model switches look like, etc. I've looked at a few and the pics looked decent.
Be warry though as I mostly use it to design racks for Pro-Audio Instalations. so it might not work that well. but for my needs its awsome.
I don't think he cares if they use it or not. As long as he gets credit for it.
But whats to say he doesn't watnt the bandwith cost?? A Company as big as fuddruckers should have been able to host the game on their own site and avoid it. Heck to even Be Politicaly Correct now days i'm suprised they didn't e-mail him and ask permision... You would think a Company this large would have some policy's sent in place to avoid issues like this.
The other thing is that Fuddruckers never posted anywhere on the main site that the link would take you to a page NOT hosted by them. So to me thats passing it off as your own. Normaly if i post anothere sites content i'll post where its going to be taking them. Hence the slashdot url Linkage.

As for organization by day i still use folders. lots of folders. one for each day. so if i get something on monday that needs to be taken care of on thursday i forward it I put it in my thursday folder marked unread.
May seem like a mess to have all those folders up. but at least then i get a visual instead of digging through GUI's and using anything else other than e-mail.
I just personaly use e-mail as my To-Do list/Project list/Notebook
I just made subfolders for each project and to-do list. then if someone wants me to do something and they're yelling it at me i just say "Send me and e-mail with it" that way i sit down, can organize it. or if i need to put something on a to-do list. i e-mail it to myself.
Might not work for you depending on your spam count but for me it works perfect. And if spams an issue how bout just making an internal e-mail account to handel just that.... call me lowtech but it works for what i need.

Just because its matched to the amplification doesn't mean he still can't blow it up. What if he changes the crossover frequency? what if he's clipping his imputs?? therefore making the Speaker have the flat peaks and heating up the coil even more.
When he brings the system back in with the crossover frequency in the incorrect place, the Gains on his inputs cranked, while i had left it at the correct settings and informed him of the speakers crossover settings. When he says he knows how hot to run his levels i take a customers word for it. You heard how good they sounded when they were set up correctly. Not my fault you didn't take in what i just said.

Free upgrade for him....
I was so disgusted with him that i just stopped all contact with him. As soon as I heard that he did this (about 3 weeks after he did it) I went and reported him to the retail store he did it to. He was under 18 so he only got a slap on the wrist and ended up paying for it.
It just anoyed me that people do this. I run into it plenty of times in my line of work (Pro Audio) where people will buy speakers, you tell them how to set the settings, or better yet you set it up for them. Yet 2 days later they come in with Burned up Voice Coils and complaining that they were the WORST speakers they've ever bought, how they know more than me about pro audio and that it wasn't them. Yet by looking at the speaker you can tell it was overdriven.... Then go look at their equipment settings and they are not what you told them/set up for them. Yet they try and tell you they NEED a free replacement because these were obviously defective.... Sorry No dice. I don't play that game.
Am i the only one that sees the Xbox 360 as more than just a GAMING Console? I Don't plan on buying any games for it in the first year unless they are given to me as presents. The main reason i want it is a Media Center.
As much as everyone says "You can take an old PC and do that." Maybe i don't want a big box sitting out, or taking the time and energy to try and figure out a way to hid the dang thing. Add to that transfering all my MP3's over to a Samba Network Share just to access them with a keyboard. No thanks.
I'm buying this for my Media Center. Not for gaming. Right now i don't realy play my Xbox much except Halo and Tony Hawk. but i use it to watch DVD's all the time and to play music in my living room. Now with the 360 i won't have to have copy's of the music i want to play on my Xbox because it will see my music share over the wireless network and i'll be able to play any of my 30,000 songs by just browsing.
Gaming... ya thats a good secondary job. But for me no thanks.
I never said i expected to be able to contact them at any time....
It was not meant as "The time i want to talk to them" it was meant as "THAT time they want to talk to me", or when they are available.
I was just stating that I never leave messages or e-mails anymore just because they are never checked. People see that i tried calling them, or i IM'd them. They will get back to me if they are polite enough.
In my line of work i don't have time to listen to a message and then call the person back. I just want to see who called, at what time. When i have the time i'll call them back and they can explain the situation then.
Alot of people i come in contact with only use IM. They never check their e-mail. never check voicemail. You have to reach them at THAT time they are available, otherwise they just won't get back to you.
I go to friends houses and see their MSN messenger say they have 800 some odd e-mails. I ask them "don't you ever check your e-mail" as i have sent them a few things from time to time and wondered why they never replyed. They said "No i just gave up on it because of all the SPAM and other company's that put me on their mailing list just went i go to the site to get info on a product"
Same goes for Voicemails. They see who it was calling and call back asking what i needed. I ask them "no i didn't listen to the voicemail. i just called back" so i have to go through detail again about what i said in the voicemail. Because of this i have all together stoped saying anything besides "Hey this is Adam, I have a question about "THIS" Give me a call back" that way i don't waste my time explaining something specific when all their going to do is call me back without listening to it.
Frankly All i use E-mail for now days is Newsletters, and Shipping updates on inventory. Everything else at my company is just through Cell phone or IM. Just save all your Convo Logs and your fine.

Dancing Baby - Wasn't this more of a 1 time go to the site see that its stupid. Then have to watch your Mom/Sister oggle over how cool or "cute" they thought it was another 20 times. Not to mention they had to have it bookmarked to show every poor person that walked in the door of your house, no matter what the relation.
Hot or Not - Was fun until you got to the 20th picture and realized NO ONE CARES!!!
Friendster - I don't know about you... but everyone i needed to talk to was on my MSN/AOL list... and i had their e-mails.... why the hell would i want another place to use to contact them... as if its bad enough to have 3-4 IM clients running to talk to everyone....
Ellen Feiss - I saw the TV add 3 times.... I never heard about anyone obsessing over her.... i thought it was a funny add cause she did look Stoned, but at what point was it that big?

JibJab - I only knew they had that bush animation.... whats so big about them?? isn't like another abum.com , ebaumsworld, big-boys, entensity.net??
only ones on that list that were actualy big in my mind (the ones that drove me freaking nuts after the "non-internet users" found 2 months after we did) were hampsterDance, All Your Base, Star Wars Kid, Numa Numa Kid (I know there was a guy before him that sang that song... he wasn't the original, i just can't find it... someone help me clear this up...) Homestarrunner, Badgers Badgers, Bananaphone, and FPS Dave (purePwnage.com)
this list is for the people that dont do anything except check e-mail.... for use that actualy READ and spend time on the net this seems like half this list should to be where it is...
Why is this something to post about... measureing 19" is not that hard.... Hell i do it on a daily basis as i work in Pro audio/lighting.
What would have been simpler to me is to just by a Mid-atlantic rack, get the shelving unit (U1 or U3).
Find a computer case thats 19" tall. Throw it on its side. screw it to the shelf and then mount it in the case.
Also could have gotten some 19" blanks and lined the back with fans/outtakes, put an AC Plug on there. along with RJ45 jack that goes to the switch. so it looks cleaner with less wires hanging out.

I was one of the poor people that paid for the colectors edition.... I choose not to think how much i wasted on that. Then when i go home to play it, I'm not able to play it until the day after i buy it because of decrypting the game... And yes i had pre-downloaded it on steam also for you that are wondering.
Then on top of that I'm not able to play without a disc, but yet my friends that bought it on STEAM are able to do that? I can't say i remember the last time i had to put a disc in my computer to play a game. I have ISO backups i just mount in a virtual drive to do that. Makes life simpler.
Granted all you that claim you've never had a problem with STEAM, Have you ever gone to a big LAN and tried to use it?? Can you say disaster??
Granted if a LAN does have Internet half the time its limited and all the STEAM Clients just kill it. And if you don't have internet well... lets just hope you remembered to saver your client information.... I know i don't because i have different accounts for my different games.
For those of you that have said the patching works great. Have you actualy tried to play right after a patch? usualy something is always wrong that they have to release a patch for the patch. I also remember at least 2 instances where they had to re-call the update because it actualy messed more stuff up than it fixed.
What about when the authentication servers went down?? Half of the STEAM users were not able to log in for a day or two. I consider that a big issue.
Also I play Counter-Strike in online leagues. Steam creats so much more hassel than counter-strike ever caused before Steam was released (version 1.5). Your clientregistry.blob is bad. oh well time to restart and delete all your content on your computer so it downloads correctly again.
Also lets look at STEAM's Friends list. Now i must not have any friends cause i dont remember the last time that piece of coding worked on the system.... I haven't been able to log into the friends server for the past month, maybe month and a half. I've just given up on that.
For the casual gamer its ok for. But for those of us that enjoy playing it on a daily basis, we're punished for wanting to play a game we love. They refuse to give us other options, (they took the WON Servers down) and so we're stuck with the STEAM'ing pile of Coding they call an inovation....
Any Game developer can look at STEAM and realize this is what not to do.
Living in North Dakota has its negatives, IE Broadband and wireless coverage. Sprint has nothing on Verizon.
I could care less if i'm in a building. If i'm in a building I'm probobly at work or doing something i don't want to be bothered with. Not that it matters because verizon will actualy go there when sprint won't.
Look up the coverage map of area code 58201 and see what i mean. Whats the point of a cell phone when i have to stay on the beaten path (the interstate). If i go off to a gas station on the side of the road half the time i lose reception. Now go look at verizon. They have most of the area covered.
I honestly wouldn't mind using sprint if they had decent coverage overall and not just in the cities, We don't have T-Mobile or Cingular up here at all yet.
I guess it goes to show you money talks. Sprint only caters to the Buisness people and kiddies that don't need actual coverage.
Call it flamebate if you want but instead of adding pictures and click to talk on your phones how about you do something productive and make your product you have now work in every place instead of just where you want us to go.
This happened to me at a University i used to go to. They completely blocked Bittorrent and if you uploaded to much you had to have a network administrator come check your computer to see what you were doing, mind you this was on their time. So you could be without internet access for 3-5 days, which is a major drawback for any student who is doing homework. I myself was seeding a few homemade movies of my neighbors and some game movies i had made myself, Hence my own media.
This made me annoyed beyond my belief, because when the administrator came i would have to prove that i had a legitimate copy of every piece of software that he would "Randomly" find. He wouldn't take into account ISO's i had burned to DVD so i didn't have to carry all the discs around.
So i looked for other alternatives, such as DSL and Cable. What i found suprised me. My Campus was so cheap that you had to pay extra for cable TV which we already were doing, so i called my provider and asked to have their Cable Internet installed in my dorm room (3meg down 256k up) They REFUSED stating they weren't allowed to do that. I also found the same thing from the local Phone company, stating that they couldn't install a DSL connection in the dorms because of contracts they had set up with the college.
So the University had a Monopoly on my choices of Internet Connection, So what did i do? walked around my dorm and gather signatures from every other student in my dorm and the one next to mine and went to a Student Senate Meeting. I told of my story and what had happened to me, showed my petition to the Student Senate, and amazingly they backed it. It became a major issue fairly fast,(I found out that the network administrators were doing this to many people. and some people that lived in the college apartments would be without internet for upwards of 2 weeks!) and the administrators were eventualy forced to drop their Iron Fist approach to monitoring the network. They had to send you a warning first before they shut you off, and then they gave you a chance to explain your network activity. If they haven't come out to your room within 2 days they are required to give you internet back until they make their way out to our rooms.
I personaly didn't know that Steam was going to be tied in this much. The last time i had read you would be able to play HL2 without steam when you first installed it. But if you wanted to play Counter Strike:Source you would have to make a Steam account. To me personaly this would make more sense. You should be able to play a Single player game without any form of internet.... After all it is single player.
How many SINGLE PLAYER games out there do you know that you need an internet connection to even get the game working?
Its just the issue of VALVe not offering a version that is Steam free. I find it realy hard to swallow that the people that have 56k internet have less of an issue than the majority of gamers that have broadband.
As for the internet connection being a requirement HL2 was advertised with Counter-Strike:Source. I and many others thought that the internet connection requirement soley involved the ability to play CS:S and not HL2 also. As this would seem to make sense to any person that knew about the HL series.
Call me stupid but why would you need to connect to a content server for a single player game? Are they going to randomly keep changing the ending so that you'll never be able to reach it? Or are they going to finish the game and have you download the ending as you play it? You would think when you release a single player game that it would indeed be the final version and not need any updating.
So if thats the case why must you download the updates to the content program that you technicaly should even have to use?
Where is this LAW that is in the US? As I am a small Pro-Audio Company... I play whatever the hell i want to on my speakers. I have to be able to play different forms of music on the speakers if the customer requests it...

Frankly All i use E-mail for now days is Newsletters, and Shipping updates on inventory. Everything else at my company is just through Cell phone or IM. Just save all your Convo Logs and your fine.
OK... is it just me or are half of these ones i had heard of like once? That you saw posted on a web forum?
Mahir - I have NEVER heard of this.... maybe i was just to much into the NAPSTER Fad to pay attention to this one...
Blogger - I had heard of it... tried it once... then said screw it... why do i want random people reading about my life... so i can walk down the street and have some random drunk guy in the alley yell at me in between sips of booze "Hey man! Sorry you got dumped last night. This ones for you!" Pointless...

I think these guys did a much cooler job making one that this dude.... at least they did it with an old fridge!
Its a good thing I play EQ!!
but realy. it seems thats the way SOE works...
Considering High School Students that "wouldn't comprehend most of the stuff"
If only sprint were actualy good where i live.
Am I then only one that see's a bunch of soldiers with rocks yelling
Soldier = "LIGHTNING BOLT!!! LIGHTNING BOLT!!"
Enemy in big homemade suit = "RAWGRAWGRAWRG"
Soldier = "LIGHTNING BOLT!!! LIGHTNING BOLT!!"
Whatever happened to Intel's theory...
"OMGZOR I HAVE LOTZ MORE MEGAHURTZ THAN YOU!!!"
I personaly thought all the 12 year olds would follow that market plan alot better than their new one...
"Well actualy MHZ doesn't really matter when you have a more efficient Processor that doesn't cost as much."
