Better yet, don't buy a new printer unless you absolutely need to, and if you can, buy a used one somewhere. Only HP's newer stuff will be region-coded, and you'll probably save money buying used. My printer, an HP DeskJet 832C, is quite a few years old and is still kicking--these things are fairly durable.
Actually, I was referring to Apple's "let's cover everything we make in the same exact tacky, ugly white plastic that's so bright it can hurt people's eyes" style. Not all their products use it, but most of them do, and Apple's using more of it than ever now.
For the record, the PowerBooks are the only Apple (hardware) products from the last few years I've been able to visually tolerate. And assuming that I'm thinking of the right PowerBook, there are significant visual differences between it and the Acer: for one, the Acer uses far more black than the PowerBook.
And while we're on the subject of ugly Apple products and old Apple laptops, let's all take a moment to remember this disaster. Even the Apple fans panned that one.
I like style. I just can't stand Apple's style. That white is just painful to look at.
Here's an example of one case in which style matters: I've been looking for a laptop. Lately, I've been eyeing the Acer Aspire 1520 series. I have two reasons: one is that I love the specs (at least on the UK model, not the US model), but the other is that it's just plain beautiful to look at. To contrast, the HP Pavilion zv5000z has very similar specs, but it's just plain fugly, so it's out of the running. In fact, I refuse to buy HP products because of how ugly they are.
Gah...I really should learn to use the preview button multiple times. Forgot to finish the last line before I hit submit. Anyway, the last line should be:
Granted, I'm not really interested in either player, as neither of them support Vorbis, but from what I've seen, I'd take the Zen Micro over an iPod any day.
Physical beauty? If that's a factor, then the iPod fails miserably. That sickening, ultra-bright white Apple slathers all over their hardware makes my eyes burn.
OTOH, I like how the Zen Micro offers a variety of colours, including a few I really like (particularly the silver and purple models). I admit I'm not fond of that blue backlight, but I still prefer the Zen Micro over the iPod, visually-speaking.
Oh, and if your girlfriend doesn't like the "nipples", maybe she should avoid using any keyboard. Every keyboard I've used has had some kind of ridges (sometimes round, sometimes not) in the middle, so you can tell what part of the keyboard you're touching without having to actually look down at it. The Zen Micro uses the same principle. Geez, it's not like there are drawings of breasts behind the nipples or something.
Granted, I'm not really interested in either player, as neither of them support Vorbis,
Dude, KPaint is gone. It's not even part of KDE 3.3. KolourPaint was created to replace KPaint.

Ironically, I am pretty sure that Gentoo has a binary build with the KDE integration turned on.
The binary is of a very outdated version of the patchset. The binary is at version 1.1.53 and the source package is at 1.3.7. Furthermore, either KDE integration is turned off in the binary or the version used was so old, it didn't support KDE integration.

Three things...
1) Compiling KDE takes 6 hours tops on my Athlon XP 2800+, and that's not even considered that powerful these days. I can start it right before I go to sleep, and it's done before I wake up.
2) I can't stand vanilla OOo. I use Ximian's patchset (ooo-build) with as much KDE integration as possible. I've yet to see a binary for it, so source is my only choice.
3) Mozilla has stopped putting XFT-disabled Firefox (and Thunderbird) builds on their website. I used to just grab the binary there, but I can't do that now. Compiling it from source is the only way I can get Firefox (or Thunderbird) without XFT support.
It's a stupid, pretentious term used by stupid, pretentious people. No idea why they do it...maybe they hate America just like people who hate France say ``freedom fries'' instead of ``french fries''. Both are braindead terms, and as far as I'm concerned, someone who uses either has no credibility.
and they had this refrigerator WITH A TV EMBEDDED IN THE DOOR. Who buys this shit?
If you think that's asinine, you must have missed the model that comes with a built-in computer and web browser. Who in the blue hell wants to surf the web on their fridge?
Don't like the site's informal look? Where is your mockup of a better one then?
I swear, every time you people say something like that, my blood pressure skyrockets. Do people demand that movie critics make their own movies? Do people demand that restaurant reviewers cook their own food? Of course not. You're just making yourself look stupid, so shut the fuck up.
Oh, and this is coming from someone who likes the Gambas site's layout. Well, I can't stand that damn blink tag, but everything else is fine.
Indeed. Some of my Linux-using friends have ATI cards, and they've had no end of trouble with them. My nVidia card, on the other hand, works beautifully.
Because of that, I will never buy an ATI product. Ever. I'll take an old, low-performing nVidia card over the latest ATI cards--I'd rather use have a low-end card that works than a high-end card that doesn't work.
Finding a decent laptop with nVidia video is a bitch, though--it's the single largest reason I've not bought a laptop yet.
Even a tiny donation can pay for a meal for a poor farmer who just had his home wiped out by the tsunami. It could go towards the medical care of someone who's been injured in the disaster.
I love Xine. Nice to hear it finally made it to 1.0.
I've never had a single codec problem when using a Xine-based player. It's played everything I've thrown at it without choking. I'm sure MPlayer's good, but considering how perfectly Xine works, I have no need to try something else.
For the record, Kaffeine 0.4.x, which uses Xine as its backend, is the single best media player I've used in my life. I can't stand 0.5, but 0.4.x is perfect. Nothing else compares to it.
Except that Canon is outright hostile to Linux users.
Epson doesn't seem like a bad choice, however.

It's far more than $620.
Yen roughly converts into cents, so ¥74000 is about $740.00 USD. It's not an exact one-to-one conversion, but it's pretty close.
LAPP, maybe, but certainly not WAPP.
Linux + Apache2 + PostgreSQL + Python == kickass webserver

There's another side to this:
Could it be that over-muscled male characters exist because men feel they are forced to adhere to sexual stereotypes created by women?

But, do we know if animals with heterosexual mates actually love each other? Or are the just satisfying sexual urges?
Your argument cuts both ways.
Have you ever had one of their games crash? I haven't
I take it you've never played Ultima Online. The grandparent's description almost seems normal compared to the side effects of some of UO's patches.

Eww...Tk is a horrible, horrible toolkit. It was horrible years ago, and it's horrible now. ``Ugly'' is a vast understatement.
I much prefer PyQt, or at least wxPython. Both of them are far superior to Tk/TkInter.
I'd recommend going with MEPIS. It's Debian-based, but very newbie-friendly.
I've been helping a friend get into Linux. I recommended MEPIS to him, and he loves it.

No, I'm an insensitive prick, thank you very much. Political correctness sucks. Hmm...maybe that would be a good signature.
Happy New Year to you too...
Some people use gallows humour to cope, asshole. Go fuck yourself.
That was the best comment I've seen on Slashdot all day. Welcome to my friends list.
