Gray is a beautiful colour. Themes that aren't gray tend to irk the hell out of me. That theme isn't gray--it's tan. Who's bright idea was it to use a tan theme for a desktop?
Frankly, the default looks of both GNOME and KDE are rather ugly. I used to think it was just GNOME that was ugly--not only the default theme, but also most user's themes, but I've since realised that most KDE themes (including the default) are just as ugly.
Indeed. Here's another example, from real life at that:
A few miles from where I live, there's a Ford dealership. Right next to it is a billboard advertising another Ford dealership, with the text "Drive a few extra miles and save". It's the same exact type of thing as the situation with Google--this sign even plays on the fact that it's right next to a competing dealership.
You don't have to worry about that: demand isn't just the amount of desire to buy something. In order for it to be called demand, the demanders have to have the resources to buy it.
For example, my last job required at least an 8 character password with at least two numbers and one case change, and you could not reuse passwords for at least 5 changes.
Oh, this is an easy one:
Quarter105
Quarter205
Quarter305
Quarter405
Quarter106
etc.
From what I understand, their old chipsets, like the KT133, had some nasty stability problems.
But ever since the KT400 or so, they've been getting better. Their semi-recent Socket A chipsets (KT400, KT400A, KT600, and KT880) are generally considered to be incredibly stable, but with only mediocre speed (not horrible, just mediocre). If you're not a hardcore gamer or if you don't need to do things like 3D rendering, the speed is just fine.
Their socket 754/939 chipsets are even better--they're both incredibly stable and among the fastest chipsets for their platform. The K8T800 Pro is neck-and-neck with the nForce3 and I have no doubt that the K8T890 will be neck-and-neck with the nForce4.
I've have to agree with this. Ubuntu doesn't seem to like older hardware. A friend of mine was trying Linux, and Ubuntu wouldn't run on his P3/800.
It's a shame, because I've heard some very good things about it, but if it can't run on semi-older hardware, it's useless for a production environment.
VIA's AMD-based chipsets are among the most Linux-friendly chipsets you'll find. In fact, they're far more Linux-friendly than nForce chipsets. Why should their Intel-based chipsets be any different?
The next machine I build will have a K8T800 Pro-based mobo, as I trust VIA to make a Linux-friendly chipset more than anyone else.
Well, VIA is already making some excellent chipsets for AMD processors. There's the K8T800 (and K8T800 Pro), and they also have a PCI-Express chipset, the brand-new K8T890.
I don't think these agreements will prevent VIA from making chipsets they're already committed to making.
Actually, I live in Texas, in a suburb of Dallas, to be exact. This makes it even more pathetic, as Cingular was co-founded by SBC (and they still have a 60% stake in the it), who has had phone service in Texas since they were split off from Ma Bell. There is no excuse for them to have spotty service in Texas.
Speaking of which, ``spotty'' is the perfect word to describe their service here. I used to get a decent signal in my old apartment. It wasn't as good as it should be, but it wasn't horrible, either. I move to a different building in the same complex (it's a huge complex tho...I moved about four buildings south and one building east), and my signal drops to almost nothing.
Three other people in my building have other providers, and they get perfect signal in their apartments. A friend of mine who has Nextel gets perfect signal in my apartment. A friend of mine with Verizon gets the same level of signal I got in my old apartment when he's in my apartment.
My signal is a little better now, but it still sucks. Also, am I correct in assuming that the ATT towers now identify themselves as ``Cingular Extend''? I never saw CE appear on my phone before the buyout went through, and CE appearing coincided with my signal getting a little better.
I heard ATT wireless sucked untill it was sold to cingular.
Funny...my experience is almost the complete opposite of that. Where I live, I got almost no signal with Cingular until they bought ATT Wireless. Now, my signal is somewhat better, but it's still shitty.
States have no rights. Communities have no rights. People have rights, including the right to do whatever they want either by themselves or with another consenting adult, as long as it doesn't interfere with someone else's rights.
Rights are absolute, regardless of location. I hate this relativist claptrap that says ``it's a different culture, so it's alright if they infringe on people's fundamental rights''. It's not alright. It's Immoral, dictatorial, and repugnant.
If a community tries to deny its constituents protection of their rights because they don't like said rights, then the ability to govern should be taken away from them, by force if need be.
There is nothing Immoral about anything consenting adults do with each other or anything a person does alone in their own home, as long as it doesn't interfere with anyone else.
I applaud this decision, but it really pisses me off when banning pornography is referred to as ``legislating morality''. It's not about Morality, it's about a group of Taliban-wannabes who want to control the private lives of Americans.
In fact, all just laws are based on Morality. Laws against murder, rape, assault, burglary, etc. are all based on Morality. Laws banning pornography, regulating so-called decency, banning drug use, establishing patents, etc. are not based on Morality. In fact, the latter category of laws are all highly Immoral.
"Marlin Joint Development Association"? This can be abbreviated a few ways: either as the MJ Development Association or as the M. Joint Development Association.
Both make me think of Marijuana, which is what these people must be smoking if they think a DRM scheme will defeat piracy.

When I saw "MTA", I thought Mail Transport Agent at first.
Yeesh--I scare myself sometimes.
This should be modded Insightful, not Funny...
As far as I'm concerned, Debian is a joke precisely because they put so much damn emphasis on politics. It's pathetic, really.

Or it's like "Springtime for Hitler" and Ed Wood's movies: people like them because they're so bad, they're funny.
Well, The Producers was fictional, but I can easily imagine something like it happening.
Finally, someone who's willing to stand up to all those whining babies who say "but this happened to days ago...waaaaaaaaaaaah!".
You have my thanks.

I actually read TFA, and nothing even resembling this quote appears in it.
The parent is simply trolling.

Wow, someone decides to have some fun and cobble some stuff together, so you decide to call him an ``arrogant, spoiled fuckhead'' and ``garbage''.
You're a horrible person.
You'll never amount to anything more than a nasty, bitter asshole. You make me sick.

You can tell someone has no valid argument whatsoever when instead of providing counter-arguments, they offer nothing but ad hominem attacks.
Go back to your little hole in the ground, troll.
The "Rights of Man" are a culturally defined idea.
Bullshit. Human rights are absolute and universal.
Any culture that doesn't respect them is evil and inferior, and the sooner said culture is changed or replaced, the better.
Gah...I hate moral relativists.
Hmm...it's working fine with my Xine-based player (Kaffeine 0.4.3b, using xine-lib 1.0 RC8).
Have you tried upgrading xine-lib (I'm not even using the current version, and it works tho)?

Wow...so Harvard actually did something about the hole instead of going after the people who discovered it? I'm floored.

I made a critical comment about the iPod last time and was modded down too, for no good reason.

You're not alone. I criticised the iPod's design a few days ago and got hit with an Overrated mod. The Apple zealots practically own
Why the hell is this guy modded troll?
/. is filled with Apple zealots, he gets modded down.
Oh, wait, it's because he said something negative about Apple, and since
