Yes there are many instances when Math can be utilitarian in the "real world". I cannot agree with you. It would be helpful for example to know infinite series to understand how some functions are calculated in real life ( more or less ). Understanding the costs of using some operations and functions will certainly help you to design a better code. Understanding how computers work will certanly help you to solve some problems. In most areas in CS you can run into mathemtical problems in places you never expected.
