agreed, the iMac while a nice all in one unit, are not something that can easily be supersized. While you might be able to add more ram, hard drive, processor speed, adding a bigger monitor complicates the design. They are good for a generic workstation where word, processing, internet, e-mail are common.
i didnt say that they were committing a crime. I say there was the potential for unethical practice. And while I have no information that microsoft is engaging in such actions, i do know that microsoft does not have a shinning track record when it comes to ethical and fair business practice.
no, however in their efforts to under sell Apple and Napster there does risk some illegal behavior. It would be illegal if they were to sell the songs and loose money in an effort to force out of business the competition. Its considered unfair business practice. Remember microsoft has lots of money to throw around.
well i guess the issue would be is that they have to prove that the RIAA invested money into things such as KAZAA which they tried to shut down. Then you could have some fun.
and just remember all the money from the lawsuits go to help the hurting artist right... oh no wait it goes into their pockets. I love those ad campaings the MPAA and RIAA have about how it hurts the working man, because i know that they are all benefiting from the legal action being taken.
Even if we had flying cars, think about the how much in society would have to change to accomodate such a technological breakthrough. You need to reshape so many laws to allow for their use. And in a post September 11th world, think of the security issues associated with such a device. No cops going to be able to stop a Ferrari.
and in no way am looking to get into a pissing match, but microsoft wasnt sued by google. And no was has filed a lawsuit over when netscape is installed on your computer how their site shows up as the default, or how AOL has their content as default.
I am in no way trying defend microsofts actions just looking at the bigger picture. So far i have not heard of anyone suing websites yet for not including links to their site or whatever. Search engines have no legal requirements over what results they return (they should though subsequently have some form of disclaimer about this though). And that was what I was refering to.
In this day and time no one would argue that information equals power. and while microsoft may be filtering results that a user may acquire, its all marketing. Microsoft has tried to bust into the search engine business and failed. Search engines are powerful portals to a world we dont know anything about. the simple truth is if they control the most popular search engine then they have an incredibly powerful marketing tool. And while granted there biggest treat is Linux. there are other treats out there and if they control ones access to that information then they have power.
and when people try to cry foul, well its not microsofts fault you use their website. Its hard to make antitrust case against them when no one forces you to use that search engine.
But there are quite a few computers out there that actual power is classified.... how do we know this is really the fastest computer out there. we dont.
Having been bothered enough by my question I went and looked it up. I first looked at a walkie-talkie i had and Read the following "This Device complies with part 15 of the FCC rules. Operation is subject to the condition that this device does not cause harmful interference."
PART 15--RADIO FREQUENCY DEVICES--Table of Contents
Subpart A--General
Sec. 15.5 General conditions of operation.
(a) Persons operating intentional or unintentional radiators shall not be deemed to have any vested or recognizable right to continued use of any given frequency by virtue of prior registration or certification of equipment, or, for power line carrier systems, on the basis of prior notification of use pursuant to Sec. 90.63(g) of this chapter.
(b) Operation of an intentional, unintentional, or incidental radiator is subject to the conditions that no harmful interference is caused and that interference must be accepted that may be caused by the operation of an authorized radio station, by another intentional or unintentional radiator, by industrial, cientific and medical (ISM) equipment, or by an incidental radiator. (c) The operator of a radio frequency device shall be required to cease operating the device upon notification by a Commission representative that the device is causing harmful interference. Operation shall not resume until the condition causing the harmful interference has been corrected.
(d) Intentional radiators that produce Class B emissions (damped wave) are prohibited.
Doesnt the FCC have to approve such item to be for sale in the US market, And part of the approval process is to check to see if the decive interfears with other electronic devices?
Well I think it is quite obvious that the CD is slowly being phased out. But a memory stick is nothing new. And the fact that this would be a permanent storage is the wrong direction. They need to create reusable technology.
Oh and of course downloading music you want is the new fad that will replace CDs. iMusic, Napster, etc are the wave of the future.
I was just surfing the web and came across this Nova article about one of the possible theories over the creation of the moon. Its says that the moon is a result of a asteroid crashing into the earth and was formed by the pieces that were blasted off the earth. Here is a video animation they have on it.
The issue is that Land Lines can handle much more capacity. Here are some of the issues when it comes to emmergency communication regarding cellular technology
1) The cellular infrastructure must be there. In other words, if
the cell towers are gone, as they were on 11 September 2001, all bets
are off.
2) The equipment can not be overloaded
3) If your equipment is functional and batteries fully charged
4) If the landline infrastructure remains in place.
I have a cell phone but i also maintain a POTS (* POTS: Plain Ol' Telephone Service) since there are times when i cant get a cellular signal during a normal day (like around rush hour). But even POTS require voltage to work (about 48 Volts DC to ring)
"Wireless is not a failsafe. It's a telecommunications accessory."
this isnt much different than the segway, i would hardly consider this a revolutionary device, just like the segway using existing technology in a new way.
While I think it is odd that Time would remove such info in an obvious attempt to protect the interests of the president and his current interests, there is nothing that states they do not have the right to do that.
If they were to go and try to destroy evidence it existed, and punish people who spoke of it, i think we have an issue.
Dont get me wrong i think it is awful that a news organization would fold to political pressure and it shows how we dont have unbias reporting, but they are a company, and there is nothing that states they have to release all their published work on the internet.
On a side note, if this was a subscription based service where you had to pay for the content. I would have big issues with it.

Sweet, another one of Mircosoft's quality "features" to help ensure a quality technological experience.
please you give them too much credit

I think this quote best sums it up.
"The only difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits."

well you can always make fun of the apollo space mission. What were there computers like?

Then looking up Part 15 of FCC Rules available HERE. I focused in on 15.5 General conditions of operation.
Which states
TITLE 47--TELECOMMUNICATION
CHAPTER I--FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION
PART 15--RADIO FREQUENCY DEVICES--Table of Contents

yeah but before you know it someone will crack that.
So basically now for 10 bucks I can get a 2 megapixel camera... well looks like i just wasted 200 bucks on getting a 4 megapixel camera.
ritz is going to have a field day with this. they can try the DCMA but information is one of the hardest things to stop.
Ah good for organized crime they keeping up with the times.
reminds me of the movie "Analyze That" where they talking about how they need to get with the times, and discussed about getting a website.
so how long till a lawsuit is filed for violations of Digital Millennium Copyright Act?
