microsoft works with computer vendors to make it that the new opperating system requires a new computer to be compatible with it. Revitalizes companies like Dell, HP, etc. Everyone walks away richer (well except all of us who will have to throw away our current computers).
Dang, i remember the days when 8 megs of ram was a lot, and 80 meg hard drive would never get filled.
Well lets see take a college database of student IDs, run it through this and you have probably 8,000 viable people to rip off. And for all of you who think that the university closely protects our data, i cant tell you how many times a teacher will post grades by SSN or even seen name and SSN. I try to explain to them that its illegal, and against university policies but i gave up when the university posted a list of kids by social security numbers. Dont need to slip for someone to get my data, idiots like that give it out for free.
with a pocket size projector and DVD players becoming increasingly smaller. I could project things anywhere. Now I just need a good set of small battery powered speakers (with a sub of course)
you pay the taxes in that state when you purchase the item. This only works if you go to a state without sales tax like new hampshire (the one i can think of off the top of my head). The law though also states that I should be paying taxes on those items that i buy in NH.
Of course my issue is if purchase something out state and pay taxes there do i have to pay taxes in my home state as well?
my mac IICX, we tweaked the thing up to 32 megs of ram, 1.1 gig hard drive (80 interneral, 1.1 external), and os 7.5 The thing worked like a beaute, would boot up in 30 seconds and did fine on word processing and the occasional sim city. Ah good old times.
what was included in the MSDS? that should have general info about the safety of chemicals and should be freely accessible. The employees should be responsible to look things up in there. I would say that if a chemical causes a higher rate of cancer and they know it and dont provide basic precautions for the employees that would be wrong, and also if they had the data that the chemicals did cause cancer and there was an intentional coverup that would also be wrong. But the fact that IBM tracks the death rate doesnt imply guilt. That shows that they are tracking data because of an interest their action based off that data is the deciding fact.
while I allow you to go grab your tinfoil hat, the ability to triangalate your position via a cell phone has been possible in theory since the advent of the cell phone, this technology just allows you to do it easier. Currently most police dept dont have the ability to triangulate your exact location, they can however tell what tower you are connected to, and what angle off of it, should narrow your area down to like a 15 square mile area. I think the fear shouldnt be around the capacity of the phones, but the laws that govern them.
and remember if you dont want them to track you via your cell phone just turn it off.
I can see the headlines now in slashdot, GWB declares North Dakota part of the axis of evil for its participation in vast and deplorable involvement in the deteriation of e-mail.
Excelent point but I think that that data could also be expanded even more. Think about having stats on some of the following items.
Number of computers on internet
NUmber of computers with high speed internet
Number of computers with upto date antivirus and patches
you get the picture
with a little more indepth research i think you have an excelent analysis of the spam epidemic and maybe be even able to more effectively battle it if we had the right statistics.
Well the article also points out that much of the spam may orriginate in Russia from the hackers there. Who then subsequently take advantage of zombie machines in countries like the USA.
Well just dont let GWB learn of this, just what we need him to do, start a new cold war over spam. It be his newest attempt to revitalize the economy.
i am waiting for the next round of anit-trust lawsuits.
Microsofts actions while they may have good intent are only going to destroy competition and inventiveness. There will be less of a drive to create new things if microsoft monopolizes the market.
But funny how this sounds so familiar. Just like every other debate we have over them
i guess eminem will soon be following in the footsteps of other bands like Metallica with going after anyone they can. dont quite have enough money yet, probably wont have enough after the lawsuit, but at least then other people wont have their money.

the thing better incapacitate the crooks, or at least have some firepower. And I want something that clean up the mess afterwards.

yes but they dont specify who its "useful" to. Remember you got to think like a lawyer when dealing with them.

ah good old zombie machines, all the fun people can have with that.
but what does that all add up too??
ORacle + PeopleSoft - US = Good????
"said the combination of Oracle and PeopleSoft would hurt competition in the market for software sold to large businesses."
So they would hurt large businesses... right and I am buying that microsoft not offering patches helps businesses.
just buy it online.
before you know it you be paying monthly fees for a subscription based operating system. Just going to add fuel to the linux fire.

same thing as releasing security updates. But they can set it up to automatically update with this heading and people are less likely to disable it.
i guess eminem will soon be following in the footsteps of other bands like Metallica with going after anyone they can. dont quite have enough money yet, probably wont have enough after the lawsuit, but at least then other people wont have their money.
"a dangerous thinning of the internet's gene pool" well i guess that sums it up pretty well about microsoft. Using microsoft is like inbreading.
ah and then the day will come when my mail box will be cluttered with spam from googlemail.com. oh joy
i was hoping that they would have had a midget in the running too.
