I mean, we can barely keep the ISS running, and our current space program is hurting significantly. So when my back is against a wall like that, i think i too would come out with crazy plans like this.
Not to mention the costs that it would have, NASA budget doubled for like 5 years when the appolo missions were going on.

Cnn has an article on some updates. Apparently the engineers been having all sorts of fun with the thing here a quick excert. "Cautioning that they will need more time to understand what went wrong, project engineers said they have determined that Spirit has rebooted or tried to reboot itself more than 60 times a day since the failure."
ah but anything that reads the DVD would be defeating copy-protection to open the DVD and play it on your home entertainment system would be defeating it. Because it is in the public domain they cant license out the rights for decrytption
pity, NASA really needs a success that this mission was turning into. They cant afford another big failure (granted this is only part of the mission and the sister rover is scheduled to land soon) but its a black eye to an already bruised image.

I wish there was more data in that article so one could analyze it and find trends, so the precentage of people with high speed intertnet has grown 15% in 2 years. is that a linear growth, and exponential growth. Is that trend going to continue or level out.
well granted the software could scan the music files for know markers, but the thing is it would take lots o resources to do that, and we already saw what happened when Adobe tried this.
