Why not just lock out all numbers except 'home' and '$parentsoffice' during proscribed times? Allow general use during the time they are allowed to watch TV -- then they can choose between the two.

That's an excellent idea that cell phone companies will lose the last of their razor thin profits on.

They are always breaking rules to get the job done. It's part of the whole "the ends justify the means" thingy I think I heard about one day when I was a wee bit younger.

Then again, you did say it was a drama, which means it's fiction, which means it's not real. If you want to argue that people are going to watch it and think that type of behavior is okay and acceptable then you (and I don't know if you are a person to do it) have to also argue that video games should not depict things that are askew to what we deem right.

For movies, the choice right now is either online and illegal/unpaid, or offline and legal.

A lot of people are choosing online, not illegal.

Example: if they offered movies for download, or online streaming movies and paid subscription, and the price wasn't retarded, a LOT of people would ditch piratebay et al.
    --

Do you not get Movies on Demand in your area?

It's cheaper and easier than Blockbuster and if until there was the ability to download off the internet one was happy and never thought they were getting ripped off going to the video store why are they not using it now?

So you prefer walking through the crowd of smokers on the way into the restaurant/building?

Yes, I'm a smoker. Yes, I wish I wasn't. No, I am not for "smokers rights". I think if people own something they should though have a say in what an what can not go on inside of it. If I visit your house I wouldn't smoke. Your house. Your rules.

An establishment needs a liquor license to sell liquior. Let them create a smoking license. If the place feels that adamant about letting people smoke let them fork over the cash for a license to do it.

Non and ex smokers are some of the most vocal people I have ever met. Do you really think they won't voice their opinion if they are bothered? There were many non-smoking restaurants before the ban here. If it is legal to produce and sell, why is it not legal to use in a private establishment?

  13. Re:So.,. tell me your thoughts... on FCC Commissioner Wants To Push For DRM · · Score: 1

They certainly should. It is their establishment.

They put the effort forth to get you in there by buying/renting the space and all that goes along with it. If they want to allow a person to smoke inside they should have that right. Also, if they decide they don't want people smoking in their place they should have that right.

Last I checked restaurants are private places which a person decides to go to or not to go to, unlike say the DMV which a person has to go to get something done.

If you serve good enough food and sell your restaurant as a smoke free establishment I will gladly forgo smoking for two hours to pay you money.

Thank you all for showing me the difference between mathematics and science and proof and truth. Maybe it is because I didn't start to enjoy or pay attention to science until after my formal education (I much preferred languages and writing) that I missed that very important point.

"Like God, the big bang "just is". However the big bang does a lot less moralising and there is always the possibility it can be explained with something deeper (infinite spacetime seems obvious but it cannot be "proven"). "

With this I certainly agree and don't think I said anything to the contrary, but I do think your statement goes very well with my point that scientists are about as humble as the local preacher and as a secular layman, the lack of humility (on both sides) can be very off putting.

    I honestly don't know.

Since no one can scientifically prove how we came into existence, I'm cool with thinking that billions of years ago someone, somewhere started a petrie dish experiment that ended up being the universe we live in now just as I am believing that the universe began with a cosmic big bang.

Is that truly any odder than string, or superstring theory?

I'm not a religious person. But science, with its "proof" has a lot more to prove to me before I just jump on the bandwagon of 1) how the universe was created and 2) how life began on this (and any other) planet.

Religion is very easy to dismiss. The idea that we are not all knowing and will not know all is pretty painful to accept and I am pretty sure the fight will still be raging on way past my decay in the ground.

I can understand Intelligent Design. I think it would be much more understandable if the people pushing it didn't have their bible in their hands while screaming about it.

The way I look at it is there are many things I have started work on and just left there. Let's just say that is how Intelligent Design happened. Something larger than us started this little project called the Universe and got bored and left if to do on it's own. Now we are a few billion years in the future and this is what we got.

Scientists have theories. Many of which can't and won't be proven, but they are taught as gospel. Sadly there are very few humble scientists who will say that they don't know and still need to work things out. They instead say, this is the truth until proven otherwise.

I am fascinated by science, by history, and by what can be learned, but until a new universe develops we will never know how this one began.
