The problem with fusion is that the technology will still take 30-40 years even according to rather optimistic guesses. Now global warming will need solution much quicker. This is why we would need a lot of investment in solar, wind and biomass. Too bad that it is easier to get huge amounts of money to only this sort of projects.
One should not view this as a either/or situation. Fusion is needed in a long time scale and solar/wind etc in a short time scale.
Also on the subject of Econophysics, I strongly recommend Philip Ball's book Critical Mass: How One Thing Leads To Another. It's one of the most interesting books I read last year.
Sometimes I wish that Slashdot had a "writer is a dick" moderation. You sir, really are that. Just had to get this off my chest.
Life isn't always fair. Thank you for making that point very clear.
In Finland gas is at about 1.5 euro per litre. Which is about 7.1 dollars per gallon. This is the first time that I remember, when people are actually starting to think whether it is wise to drive a car everywhere.
It seems that the sequence C was supposed to be the control sequence. I have to admit I couldn't see what the picture was. It might be the fact that it is 4 AM now and I should be asleep or then my brain is just too slow for this and I'm freaking 20.
He hasn't explicitly said that 9/11 and Iraq were connected but he has implied so on many occassions. Also you can't forget Powell's speech before the UN.
The least you can say is that Bush hasn't been very clear on the issue.
Aaaaaargh!
Why on earth is the UN nowadays viewed as some kind of evil empire in the US? Is the reason still the opposition to the Iraq war to destroy Husseins WMDs (which can't be found but that's an other story)?
I mean I know the UN has its problems, but still it is the only forum where nations can talk there problems over easily. Also I feel that a little bit of cordination wouldn't probably be a bad idea during catastrophis that affect many countries.
I live in a large student flat where a few of these people lived too so I've had to discuss and follow this story as it happened. There are many people who are very angry at the police for doing these arrests. What would you like the police to do? Break the law by not enforcing it? I think the only thing we can learn about this that the laws might need a bit adjusting. Some people have compared the sums of money that people, who have been caught pirating, have had to pay to those people, who have been caught swapping child porn. They do raise a good point. Is copyright really more important than other types of crime? If you really don't think so, you should blame our elected law makers and work to change them or at least there opinions. Blaming the police in this case is wrong. Although the rumours about police dropping backdoors and spying on irc channels don't sound very good.
BTW I wouldn't think that the police have eavesdropped on irc channels. Why wouldn't they just get the logs from somebody who thinks that will lower the penalties?
True...
It was available to everybody when I linked it. Well maybe somebody was quick enough to see it.
Sorry
I would suggest that you also browse some more neutral sources.
http://www.nature.com/news/2007/070402/full/07040This is should be required reading for all climate skeptics.

Wouldn't a large amount of animals with exactly the same genes be very susceptible to deceases?

How do you protect a wife's ballot from not being seen by the husband? If that can be solved with internet-based voting, I'm surprised.

What is the point of the article? What is new in the article? Why is this on slashdot? What the hell?
