My school prevents the loss of precious bandwidth to Kazaa and other p2p programs by setting them to be the last network priority. So it might take a whole day to download a 3MB mp3.
Students have gotten around this by creating a Direct Connect hub that just allows computers connected to the university network to download files. It's incredibly fast. You can download an mp3 in about 3 seconds and a movie in about 10 minutes.
If a tree falls in the middle of a forest and nobody hears it, does it still make a sound? Indeed it does. So just because space is a vacuum that does not allow for sound to travel very well, it does not necessarily mean that no sound was made at all. Just that it would have been impossible to hear it.
I thought the same thing. However, I think that anyone who takes the time to scan each one of those huge stones is going to make a big deal out of anything they find. While this finding might seem small, I'm sure that this will lead scientists in some way. Perhaps it can help us get some information about the tools they used and therefore about the people that created it. Who knows?
A friend of mine was installing a DVD drive on his friend's computer. While he stepped away for a second to get something, his friend thought it would be a good idea to Swiffer the motherboard because it was "dusty". No data was lost, but that's a really great way to screw up your motherboard. That's an expensive mistake she'll never make again!
Does anyone have a link to where I can find the Billy Crystal movie spoofs? Sadly I was at work last night and missed the Oscars.
Oh, and go Peter Jackson! This late in the thread I have nothing more to say that hasn't been said.
Reading comments like that makes me wonder how it is possible that some of you guys actually don't have girlfriends. Hang in there boys!

They could still run the risk of getting gum or throat cancer just like it happens with chewing tobacco.

They use Safari as the browser for their screenshots. I knew Apple was a good clean honest company that frowns upon plagiarism.
Go Sears Tower! Go Chicago! Go Cubs...oh, wait.
So the first thing you do as soon as you get to work is check Slashdot? The real world sounds like a happy place :0)
