Try for a research masters degree on some topic you find interesting, and try to find a way to monetize it. Create a small company that you own if necessary (take care of not being carried away bankrupcy is no fun:-)) And either do some consulting,or try to monetize whatever you have developped. So on your CV you'll have the Master AND the Experience...
At any rate, having the master's degree will make your life much easier, particularly when you'll be a "senior"... (it might seem counter intuitive that a diploma that you've done or not 25 or 30 years ago has any impact on your career, but in reality not having it means needing twice the "support" from insiders...) unless you're absolutely sure that you'll be running your own company when you're 45..50.. (and actually no you cannot be sure....)
Actually calling them incompetent buyer would be more accurate, but the parent article is still quite right. Most people are impulse buyer and will pay anything if the "first byte" is not too painful. Patents where useful when a typical end product had one or two patents involved, now it has hundreds or thousands of patents involved it is just unmanageable.

Patents should be forbidden in all field, they are not useful anymore.

If your university is a private university, this is a good moment to change it. If it is a public university you should start to lobby your local government against this abuse.
Obviously it might not be easy, maybe this university is the only one where you can learn what you want that is convenient or even possible for you.
But concider that if you are learning anything related to IT you are learning it at a University that is completelly out of bound on this subject. Even if the service would be perfect, not managing your own infrastructure if you are supposed to teach this to your student is just plain ridiculous.
If you are learing anything related with politics, communication, philosophy the same reasoning applies albeit for different reason, but obviously if you outsource your community to "big brother" you are not an intellectual, and you should not try to teach anything intellectually challenging to your students.
Even if your are majoring in Business this would be a very bad example. The "Community" is the core of any business, and not being able to manage your own "users" is incredibly stupid.

What puzzles me, is that this proposed law is supposed to be a reaction to the rape plot. But this rape plot was not interupted by feasless defender, but obviously one of the protagonist actually found that the initial fantasy got out of hand and called the police. The three plotter also swapped photos, it would certainly be interesting to understand exactly how they got them. As there is a difference between forcing, coercing or luring a minor to submit to any kind of pornographic action, and retransmitting photos. Even if both are illegal and wrong.
Actually it would be very interesting to follow up on this case, there is a distinct possibility that the "ringleader" is actually "rather" inocent, it could be that he started with a perverted fantasy, and suddenly found out that "real bad guy" are out there, and maybe he really actually helped the police to put away one or two "real baddies". In wich case the proposed legislation would actually be a case of making sure that sex offenders do not use the internet to communicate, and stay under the radar for years. That is scary.
In a separate case we could also suggest that all farmers should register as "potential sex offender" and need a special "on line identity" and have restricted travel rights (remember the Canadian Serial Killer they got recently with 30+ bodies on his hands ?, it MUST have something to do with the internet!)
Well the french use two different terms anti-mondialiste and alter-mondialiste
And if about 10 years ago many where "anti" now most (who do care about this sort of thing, and not only about "what's on tv tonight") use alter.
Free software is not "anti" globalization but for an alternative globalisation.
The current trend is toward: cash and capital can travel around the world at the speed of light, but the unwashed masses are requested to stay put in their current cesspol. And if the capital they need to clean up a little bit their environment can be used more efficiently somewhere else, tought luck, better times are comming (somewhere, sometime, don't hold your breath, or do we don't care).
The alter-globalization stand on Free Software is that it gives more people control on their own environment, and it makes it somewhat harder to fully control the transmission chain from content provider toward end-user. For instance compare what kind of "permission" you need to develop a game on Linux as compared to a game on an Xbox.
Unfortunatelly the real understanding of the issues at hand is only very partial, and for instance in the current USB tick example, the real "need" is just for a mobile student "work space", this enables the school administrator to freeze the school PC's configuration and removes the need for a shared managed "student storage place". Adding some free software on a memory stick is really a way to NOT put Linux on the PC. The discussion goes like this: - you should not be a slave to a monopoly, nor should you provide a system to students that they cannot really study but only use as a black box. - ho, hem, ha, heuu, well, its very complicated and difficult, but we are allready doing something, we are ta da.... using Firefox !!! - Of course you are, but you use it on Windows, and it really doesn' mean mutch by itself - Well we are also moving toward Open Office (well a little, sometimes, but not for the Accountant he has 20 lines of Excel macro that he doesn't remember how they happen to work, so porting them, you must be kidding..) - This is still ChickenS.... and you know it. - Well we will make a big program with Free Software for All - Ok seems cool - Hello dear provider, we need 50 000 USB sticks - Ta daaa...! - So what ? - We copied the nice demo CD you gave us last year on the stick - With the 2 years old versions ? - Yess isn't it cooool. - MS sales rep to BG (hello, finally no need for EDGI funds)

It also ensure that they will never be able to develop their own "Intelectual property" (they will always have to deal with the advance the US have, and anything they invent will be only a small cog in the current complex systems).

Personally I'm quite happy to pay 3 euros per month for last.fm if it gives me the garenty that it'll go on working...
Apparently he even wrote in one of his story something like "in the 21st century the easiest way to make a fortune is to create a new religion..."
so we should thank F.A. for giving us access to the warning ;-)
Now instead of speaking to "real users" when we build something for netbooks, we need to convince a couple of "telecom marketoids"...
Watch this space for "ringtones windows skins from outerspace for netbooks" at a low 9.99.
And then when you'll go to you favority watering hole you'll find out who the nerds are because their computers do not go "" when they get a new mail.

The difference of price is linked to the difference of HW, AND the presence of MSN Live.
Read in the article.
"Holtham made much of the presence of Windows Live applications on the box"
This pretends to be an "asset" for the user, in reallity Microsoft is bribing Asus to put Windows Live into the box.
