I think progress in VR is going on all the time its just not labeled as such because it is such an expansive category. If you look at the next generations of games that are coming out and the pushing of PCI-express and the new graphics cards, graphics are progressively looking closer to Reality. Now having said that that is only part of the VR question. Interacting more realisticly with that world is essential. We are seeing new steps into 3d Projection, almost holographic displays, and what I feel is the most important step experiements using brainwaves to control movement in simulated enviroments.
The techologies havent collided yet into a single form but when they all catch up to each other then we will have true VR.
Forget about Virtual Boy which as most of us no was neither true 3d nor Virtual Reality, also excuse the PS2 Eyetoy which are both just novelity items.
What kind of Question is that?
This is an important interview, why waste Baker's time with nonsense?
I would hope that someone's important question did not get left out because of that.
They fought hard for the V-chip so any parent could block any objectional material on cable. There is no need to censor everything for us.
The government is not my parent nor is it my religion!
Ticket prices are going up. In New York you can pay upwards to 10 dollars a ticket and I bet many other cities its the same. Films are breaking records in every direction that even the smallest films (my big fat greek wedding) can make a huge amount. Why is the MPAA angry again, When one day dvd sales are even surpassing box office profits?
The MPAA should be happy to have a product that the people want unlike the RIAA who we all know the problem is not mp3s, its the lack of quality music.
At times like these when Digital technology is putting the ability to make films in anyones hands, it might not be a such a good idea to hurt your fans when in a few short years they will be the directors and producers with the option of circumventing the whole Hollywood system.
I understand things like having your picture on your credit card which I think is the best simple innovation yet and I can understand the mini-credit card on your keychain. But how many seconds are saved by taking a credit card out or wallet out of your pocket and waving it back and forth?
We all know from experience credit cards start to wear down over time...I dont want to be the one in the store looking like I'm having a seizure when I try to purchase the product of my choice, especially a more embarrasing personal product.
Yes the slide method will probably never go away but I, like a lot of people on here, see this as another security problem and not a solution to our high speed lives.
You want to help us? Lets skip to biometrics please where it could be faster and more secure and not something that leaks information out of my own pocket.
If EA is gonna try and buy up every piece of realism you can put into a game then its time to go the opposite route. Who remembers the best football game ever for Genesis? Mutant League Football where you could design a team of monsters and aliens and battle them out in the football field. I'm sure arcade football games will not suffer because they thrive on fiction and gameplay but realistic football will hurt eventhough games like Konami's Winning Eleven which has no official soccer license is still one of the world's most popular soccer games. EA may buy every brand in the world but they can never buy our freedom!
This makes a whole lot of sense if you think about it. They want to take the money from the people who can least afford it cause they can only afford to buy so many cds a year compared to someone who is out of college and has a job. This is like pro-active gestapo marketing...take all the money you think your customers should have bought. I mean these kids waste all their money on hundreds of dollars worth of books a semester and tens of thousands of dollars on tuition, room and board...they really need to get a piece of that pie!
Don't you wish the government was on the peoples side just once where they could actually look at something like this and realize...Hey they aren't on the peoples side! This is not what America wants.
I bet things will change when a politian's daughter accidently gets sued because the RIAA forgot to check their list properly just like they didnt care about spyware and spam until their computers started to get effected.
Keep on downloading Jenna and Laura Bush!
Remember when Music was an art? Once upon a time tickets to concerts were affordable, radio had less commericals and DJ's played what they thought was good music, albums were cheap enough so you could buy at least 5 of them without costing over 100 dollars (who knew that switching to a format that was digital which makes it easier to make and cds that cost less than a penny to produce would cost over 400% mark up to the consumer).
The average person who has trouble covering all his bills and rent cant afford to pay to get the music they want anymore. We aren't even allowed to hear or preview the music we like anymore cause they dont play it on the radio or the TV. But we listen to the radio and tv anyway cause there is nothing else and since you play the same 5 songs over and over again eventually one of the songs gets stuck in our head. Hey we might even like it for a moment. So we buy that cd for 20 bucks just to get that song out of our head, and we are left with that one song and 7 other tracks of pure garbage, they just threw on there so they could sell an album. But that 20 bucks is all we could spend, we dont even get to experiment and buy something we havent heard before on the off chance that it might be something we like cause we simply cant afford it.
We had no choice in the matter of sharing music, music is an art we need in our lives. You the recording industry turned music into a price fixed Coporate Facist Organism(see the music settlment for more details) then you turn it around to make it look like you are the victums and we are hurting the artists. It looks a little silly when Millionaires are complaining about money when there are millions of people who have no jobs and we are struggling to get food on our plates. Sue our children because their parents can only afford to keep them in new clothes and not give them extra money for 20 dollar cds! Artists if you aren't getting enough money, it is not the publics fault, look to the people who have the money. Artists dont always get the best contracts (look what happened to the Dixie Chicks, they had to sue their own record label to get the money they deserved). Entertainment is suppose to be affordable because its an extra in life and when you make it out of our reach you hurt yourselves... Look at whats happening to Cinema where in some places its gone up to 10 dollars per ticket.Stop turning Art into Industry. I like the fact that I can go to art gallery for free and see wonderful pieces of artwork or that I can go to a museum pay 5 dollars and see famous artists' works like Picasso or Rembrandt as much as I want. There is only so long you can take advantage of the public before it backfires. Save yourselves by lowering your cd prices to the point of affordiblity and firing your executives and giving radio back to the people. We are just regular people, we are not thieves. You give us a reason to buy your music and you will be suprised.
Its called Final Cut, where Robin Williams plays a man who after you die edits together the highlight film of your life for your funeral.

who knows what kind of problems will happen when we shoot dead people out there...we could be sending out bacteria and diseases to alien civilizations and destroying them all like we did to the native american cultures when we first arrived or even worse maybe alien diseases will combine with the human cells and form the next big plague that ends up wiping us out.
Think about it like this, there is nothing in space that would make the body decompose, no air, no bugs, no water or dirt...so the possiblities of this are great. Maybe we might even inavertedly create a new species by accident. In the middle ages in war, they would catapult dead bodies as a sort of biowarfare... Did anyone think of the repercussions of starting biowarfare on outerspace?
Isn't this like The Emmy's award for best award show?
I am sure that prize would be great for some small group working under a tight budget but this is how I think its going to be: Nasa's X-prize goes to....Nasa for its continuing completion of goals in space travel.
What im trying to say is how many people are actually gonna win this?
Its like Microsoft having a prize for best microsoft product.
I'm sure there are lots of other smaller companies who push the limits of transversing space but not as much as Nasa.
If I am wrong please reply and tell me so.
I really think the music companies deserve what they get eventhough right now they are complaining about a loss of 5% when unemployment is at an all time high. I think in the future when more and more bad music comes out and good music is less frequent and MTV decides that Reality TV killed the video star that they will start giving away free music everywhere (note: already started to happen, putting mini-cds on Pepsi lids at fast food joints). I may be overly uptopian but am I the only one who thinks that music shouldnt be an industry? I swear it was a fine art.
I also believe in the future when Porn gets less taboo (in america where showing a breast on TV will get you killed, meanwhile the only thing you cant say on the BBC is the CU word)and is more freely accepted they will have to give away less free porn.
Music Industry here is a message for you, how about letting us choose between more than the same 10 songs you play on all your radio stations 24/7 it might suprises you but we like variety. The Porn Industry have known this for year, one just has to look at all the different websites out there from Big Booty MaMas to Lactating Grannies.
maybe I am wrong but don't we leave the house so we can do things other than watch TV...or is this a substitue for doing work at work or when your favorite show is on and you have to pick up the kids so now you can do both?
Here's a sidenote to think about: Cellphones use basicly 1 sense and thats hearing which is an important sense but you do have sight so you can concentrate on other things like walking or driving (people argue with this one but truck drivers have been talking on CBs for many years now and they seem ok...maybe not), basicly do whatever. But TVs use both Sight and Hearing...what are you gonna use to walk down the street, smell?
Maybe when the Segway takes over for using our legs for walking and they put in cruise control than we will be ready for Mobile TV
The aggravation that goes with wireless is unparallel, save yourself a stroke and lots of money by buying a few spools of CAT wire and a HUB/Router in one, a crimping tool, and some connectors and have at it. Run the wires and you will thank me in the end cause there is nothing like a good wire compared to having bad signal strength (which is unavoidable in your situation believe me)
is it fair to take pre-orders on a game and not have the game come out for years and years and delay after delay?
Software companies how about lets stop pre-orders its not like there is ever a shortage and the people who pre-order dont get the game faster so the advantage is totally on the companys' side. When you start messing around with the people who pre-ordered the game by changing release dates like dirty underwear and then giving total radio silence just to come out to say sometime in summer?
So how about some respect for the people who loved your game so much that they paid for something so far in advanced that they wont see it for close to a decade.
For those who didnt bother to check who won, it ended in a tie.2070 cpus couldnt beat one brain...that says a lot about the complexities of the human brain. But the question is why are we doing this? Do we want the computers to win? Do we want to create the ultimate computer who knows more than we do and can do it better?
That ruling is unconstitional and it violates the privacy laws.
what kind of country would this be if all your first amendment rights were guareented but you had to do them in front of a video camera?
I'd rather not have big brother watching me if I decide to check my bank account or send an email to a friend.
They really know what the artist needs. Apple has become the art supply store for the world. Being able to take any work no matter what medium and help with its creation is truly a wonderful thing.
I am not a big apple supporter but its hard to argue with the impact apple has from Pixar animation to Lord of the rings. Every musician, film maker, and digital artist has an apple for a reason.
the faster we can send Bush to Mars, the faster we can get another president who is more concerned with jobs, education, and the enviroment.
We'll just tell him that we forgot to upgrade the rocket's flash memory;)
Just remember, "You can unlock any door, if you only have the key."
