The point is, that digital audio formats are easier to control centrally for the masses than analog formats are.
I do admit that the following example is a bit contrived, but imagine, if you will, a future transpacific/atlantic global trade agreement, where content owners and governments collectively decide to screw consumers over, and only mandate the sale of networked, DRM enabled CD drives. Let's check that tracklist of yours, if you can prove ownership using the RIAA blockchain code, fine, we'll let you play it, otherwise it's "disc read error".
In the world of analog turntables, phono/line level inputs and 3.5mm audio jacks this will never be an issue. And if you have an issue with vinyl sound, I recommend trying kicking back and relaxing after dark with Lee Konitz and Hal Galper on the grammophone and enjoy a nice glass of Saint Émillion Grand Cru. Told you I was an overly nostalgic old fart, didn't I?
I am what people here call an old fart with an oversized sense of nostalgia. The turntable is my perpetual analog loophole, forever protecting me against the DRM shit content owners would like to force upon me.
Analog = Unlimited ownership of your physical medium.
Ansoft screwed me so hard with a license agreement in 2003, and I will never forget that. Unfortunately, their FEM-IE hybrid solver is the best in market atm. When CST comes along with a better solution, the ex-Ansoft will be dead to me again.
I mean, if you're a Dr...why would you sacrifice 4 years of medical school, plus internship years, plus extra years if you are specializing...on top of college, if you didn't see a payoff in the end that was worth your sacrifice up front?
I once sat next to a doctor at a dinner party, and boy, he was a real grade A asshole. Patients should pay out of their own pocket for treatments, so they could better appreciate the service he delivers them and that Scandinavian countries with free healthcare are communist hellholes doomed to financial fail. (Although all credit agencies beg to differ with him on that last one). So yeah, money plays a role for some, although mostly, it's about seeking to be an authority, worshipped as a healing demi-god.
Aaaaand let's forget all about how searching and copying the contents of foreign business travellers' laptops actually eases the NSA's burden of providing US companies with "business intelligence"...
*Golf clap*
I totally agree. As soon as traveling Americans start blowing people up or trying to murder innocent people abroad for having different religious views.
Yeah, because that's exactly what all Norwegians, Lithuanians, Polish and Luxembourgish do.
Besides, you still fostered T. McVeigh, and are a nation of gun nutters with a proven questionable judgement with the recent election of your clown president. Why shouldn't we protect ourselves against the likes of you?
For traveling within Europe, the difference between the shitty "old" airlines and the shitty discount airlines is not worth talking about. It really is on long haul you feel the service mindedness or lack thereof. Hate to say it, but in my experience Lufthansa provides the least shitty long haul economy service among the European carriers.
I bet they only buy "pre-owned" cars rather than used cars too:)
I see you never visited Luxembourg... (GDP per capita index 271 in 2015 compared to Germany's 125...)
Does the US even have technology and available manufacturing capability to do 8 MW wind turbines? European companies have been developing this technology since the early 1980s, starting with puny ~50 kW turbines.
Dear Coward Anonymous: Please point out where I am lying.
In the meantime, have a look at this video. I think Alan Moore's vision of a totalitarian Britain would agree with you.
What? The European parliament *is* elected by the people and they have the final say over what the European Commission legislates. The head of the European Commission is appointed by the Council of Europe which is composed of (surprise, surprise) the governments of the respective European member states. The European Commissioners even have to be approved by the European Parliament.
Where is the democratic deficit in that?
Moreover, European officials are told to leave their national special interests at the door and work for the European people as a whole.
Economic integration requires common legislation. At least the bureaucrats were recruited based on skill based selection procedures. Most probably, they are better qualified than the populist idiots in the national parliaments.
And as an added advantage, you have the ability to use deadly force to avenge your shoes for the beer someone unfortunate would happen to spill on them.
Ever heard about BiCMOS processes? Integrated circuitry packing CMOS for logic/DSP purposes along with BJT based blocks for RF or stuff such as low-jitter drivers for long haul optical communication lasers?
*whoosh!*
(C128 owners would know)
Gee whiz, you don't say.

Are they really going to stop the export of computers and SDR? Not that those are made in Europe anyway, but why let that stop a futile gesture?
I know at least one deep packet inspection equipment maker here, off the top of my head. I'm sure there are many others.
I'm pretty sure you mean BMWs, here. All the driving-skill Dunning-Krugers seem to flock around them....
I was considering buying one of their speakers. Good to know I can stop doing that.
Piss off, Sonos.
Seconded, webOS really is great. Just too bad there's no long term support from LG (stuck with webOS 2.0 on a relatively new TV from 2015).

unnecessary social programs
Others would use the term "a civilised society with consideration for the not so well-off".

Plus, BA cabin crews don't give a shit about economy travelers in spite of the "ask us anything to make your flight better"-promise.

Slashdot does regularly pee-review on their submissions, I'm sure.
Except that no European VW owners will ever see any compensation for VW's fraudulent behaviour. This is only in the USA, AFAIK.
