totally agree. The best editing software for equations I've ever seen is latex, and I suspect it's still too slow for taking notes in class. There used to be these crazy pens that could capture notes (and doodles) to image files... But it'd probrably be easier just to scan them later, as it'd give you a chance to review them anyway.

I'd bet money that they are. This notion that the federal government is a monolith ala Tom Clancy is absurd. You seem to forget that when Clinton came into office the white house still used switchboard operators from the fifties... Why in the world do you think things are any different now? Look at all the holes available for madrid-style terrorist attacks in the city that are overlooked (i.e. Marc train service that allows any fool to bring on unscanned luggage an purchase a ticket on the train in union station for cash with no id). The federal government is run by a bunch of incompetent boobs... always has been, always will be.

The issue here, I think isn't what the picture shows, or the data for three years, rather what the trend is over time... What they are saying is tantamount to saying the three days of small losses in the face of 10 years of stock market gains is a signal of no more gains, or even a collapse of the market. Time series' data can't be looked at individually, the only bit's the relavant is the autocorrelation.

Actually... I bought the wife and ibook before the version of XP ever arrived. I actually like it... it's overpriced, and has some speed issues (compared to intel/linux), but overall I'd say I'm WAY happier with it (for what it is... wife-friendly boxen) than with the XP.

recently got sick of me complaining about my wife's griping over her complaints with linux, so he sent me copy of XP Home($25 from the company store!).

What really steams my clams about XP after ditching windows in '99 is that the shit doesn't really work any better than linux, IMHO. EXAMPLE: last night I tried to install the drivers for a happauge wintvdvr card. I was following the manual that came with the card... I used their CD, no-joy. I call the friend from MS, to bitch and he says it's because happauge clearly didn't follow MS's rules... they 'offer' classes (I don't know, but I'd guess they're expensive as hell) to help vendors... His solution? Go to the website and download the drivers directly.

My point? What the hell is the difference between this and linux? Oh, right... I get to pay for the privilage, AND I get to use the manufacturer's code/servers to download the drivers.

the researchers then prattled on about this being proof for there being more girls being born than boys, as there are more women giving birth out of wedlock and aren't being pestered for sex... thus concieving perhaps when they aren't most fertile.
