    The things astronomers classify stars by are generally temperature and luminosity. Other things are not readily known just by looking at them once. Even if the stars look similar, they can differ a lot by composition, rotation speed, mass and so on.

    Pregnancy easily can outlast the relationship that caused it. In all jurisdictions and cultures I am aware of, it is a woman's decision to keep the baby or not (if someone is allowed to decide at all).

    Generally, this is exactly what Russians really propose: pay us to fix our roads so you can, sometimes, having a lot of money and time, drive on them. The whole "proposal" consists of roads that currently exist. Outside Russia, they are even in a good state.

    Even if it is possible, the energy still has hundreds or thousands of years to reach the surface. Killing all the "high" frequencies in the process.

    Everyone in his right mind reinstall new computers. The manufacturers were known to install bloatware, crapware, shitware and so on for years. It just was not that bad.

    At least in Bulgaria where I live, CC is never mailed. You have to go in person to a bank office and show a state-issued ID card (or passport, if you are not local), to get one. IDs are generally hard to forge (crypto-enabled coming soon here and already usual in other EU states), have your photo printed on them, last usually 10 years and are mandatory.

    CCs became themselves crypto devices some 15 years ago and a lot of them do not have a magnetic strip now - good luck cloning them.

    It is not that we do not have bank fraud, it simply is not at such an entry level.

    I live in Europe and I simply do not understand the crazy SSN thing you have. Our "government IDs" are not secret. We still have a lot of room for improvement, sure, but you can use a lot of hints from us.

    It is already pretty clear that we have to (and will, some way or another) build a society where the personal information is not THAT sensitive.

    This way, you can only get security by obscurity. Not much. You also get all the expenses of in-house development. A LOT.

    We are all insecure and this is not that bad. These vulnerabilities make people and corporations equal the way Colt made them in his time. We just have to maintain acceptable level of risk.

    The main downside is the disk becoming much more algorithmically complex (read: bug-prone) for a less than a radical improvement in performance.

    ... except in some cases where these filesystems make some wrong assumptions about the wear leveling mechanism below and perform worse than a generic, disk-oriented fs.

    I had the same idea long ago. It ended up that the platters and the spindle are a small part of the disk in terms of cost. So instead of such a complex setup you can just buy twice more disks and get the performance you want.

    The metric "$ per suspect catched" is pretty much meaningless. If they have 1 suspect for the whole year and do arrest him, the cost per arrest will be their yearly budget - and guess what? The border still needs to be guarded. The important numbers would be the the cost increase/decrease vs drone-less operation and the percent of trespassers missed.

    Biological gender a huge issue for most people:
    Yes, I know. So is for me. Exactly that much important is the sexual orientation. It is still not an issue in online dating.

    If you need an overnight relationship it does not really matter, as long as it fits the need. If you look for a long, probably lifelong one, you generally get to know a lot more for the other person, besides the tiny gender issues. And no, you did not come from the simpler time. You just had luck. These gender uncertainities are in no way new.

    Arranged marriage: worked for me. But failed for a lot more. So the online dating is not that bad - you can fail on your own.
    Well, I had a dishonest advantage: My mother is a perfect offline dating service. She is a teacher in a high school. So she knows A LOT of young people very well and develops closer relations with clever ones.
