    For all intesive purposes though, they are seprate companies, although the leaders take thier cue (to some extent) from Japan.

    Sony of American could go bankrupt (in theory) but that wouldn't mean that Sony Japan is. It would hurt them no doubt..but they are seperate.

    Or am i buying shares of a Japaense company on the NYSE?

    Maybe that's not how it is in India, but maybe you should learn more about US law before spouting off. I wouldn't claim to know how India does business, after all.

    Am I the only one that perfered the larger Xbox controllers? The smaller ones were too small, and I had problems hitting the black or white buttons. The larger controller though was perfect.

    PDFs actually do cost money to make, possibly more than to create with word (and usually a word doc is created and turned into a pdf).

    Going this route means the Mass govt can stay with MS (they already have the licenenes), and don't have to force the citizens to buy any particular software either. It doesn't shift cost like other proposals might.

    Except what windows is doing does seem to match that..it does indeed seemt o remove the whole app (even if it doesn't need the mem) and then when I come back to it, i have to wait two minutes.

    Thats defaintly not true; in Win2k and above, you can 'mount' a secondary drive to a certain folder, just like you can have /home ona different disk then the root filesystem.

    I'd like to know how you're going to get the electronic document onto the C64? I doubt very many are working (I had one, as did my friend...both started to 'flake out' in the mind 90s. I suspect most have done so by now).

    So, there are a few answers to your question; somebody already posted one reply. My reply is that we go with what is reasonable. A modern computer that can connect to the internet (since i don't know how you're going to get the doc to the C64 anyway).

    If you've paid enough to get that far, I don't think you should have to pay a few hundred more (just for office) because you don't have office or you don't even run windows. PDFs can already be read by modern linux and mac users already (for free).

    Besides, very simply Mass said 'we want to use an open standard for our electronic documents; MS can provide one or we'll switch from MS.' Whats wrong with that?

    I find it hard to believe that each contributor to the kernel retained their copyright. Not every 10 line piece of code is copywritable by the way.

    Otherwise we'd be in alot of trouble for everyone who wrote a simple for( i = 0 ; i 10 ; i += 1) { printf( "%d", i ); }

    Out of curiosity, what legal ground did your boss have to sue another company? In a free market (which is what businesses are always crying about, right) any company should be able to recruit anyone they want.

    Of course, stunts like that leave a bad taste in employeers mouths, and in such a specialized industry

    I find this ironic, since I don't know of any employers that wouldn't cut someone loose with no notice at all. They expect it from you if you leave, but if they want you out, its 'sorry, too bad.'

    I think before employers start crying foul for employees leaving without notice, they should re-examine how they treat those same employees when they need to let them go.

    Even if you are under contract, state law trumpts the contract. So it doesn't matter what you contract says if you're in an at will state.

    Most states don't require any notice at all. "any time, for any reason." Its called at will employment.

    Companys CANNOT withhold your final paycheck. You've already done the work for them. Even if you burn up two processors, they have to sue you to recover damages. They CANNOT take it from your paycheck.

    I fail to see why anything other than two weeks is being thrown around here.

    If an employee leaves its because his employer was not making the employee happy. I'll conseed that some employees are unreasonable about what it will take to make them happy. However in that case, is that an employee that a company wants to keep?

    If the employee's concerns are reasonable, then it is totally the companies fault for the employee wanting to leave. More often this is probably the case.

    I'm not saying be a dick and screwing them over..just quietly find something new and give two weeks. Continue being a professional until your'e gone.

    It sounds like he wasn't being appreciated at all, in the very least. Why should he care what happens once he's gone? Give two weeks, if they have someone to transition to do that.

    If he wants to do on call support, he can basically give any terms he likes. They need him, not the other way around.

    Experiance is the best teacher.

    Thats incredibly wrong. I'm working right now where its obvious some people only have their experience (ie, the picked a few things up maybe from people that had formal teaching). Their code now is horrendious,and its really hard to get them to do things the right way.

    You need theory AND experience....you aren't very effective at all with only one.

    There's so much more to college then just the degree though. You really do learn alot of good life experiences, and you can move slower to being fully indepenant; that is, you have to finda place to live, but likely you'll have a loan to cover the rent. But figuring out how to handle things when you don't necessarliy have to worry so much about where the money is coming from is helpful when you finally do have to pay fully for yourself (and repay that nice loan).

    seriously..don't wait. Most people that take a year off never end up going.

    You may also lose finanical help that you would be able to get (your parents may be able to get Plus loans and such), as that year off will end your 'dependant' status.

    Go now, get it over with before prices go up even more too..

    Well, I guess you had a bad experience with them..

    Mine was different...they were great in Rochester NY. I don't think the cable modem or CATV went down the 3-4 years i was there, and they even said they don't support a linux router, but then proceeded to assist me with settng mine up.
