I hate to risk getting modded down by pointing out the flaws of open source advocacy, but I find it funny that your first complaint after the fact that it's closed source is that the interface is awkward. Maybe I'm way off, but for the most part it seems to me awkward interfaces are a staple of open source software. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of "free" in all its incarnations, but opening source unfortunately doesn't (usually) mean the interface gets better.

Some people prefer Sony's implementation, some people prefer RCA's, some people prefer Panasonic's, etc. Even if this wasn't true, you're still overlooking the benefits you get from not having every product of a kind come from a single company. That's one of the main reasons people tend to not like monopolies (or monocultures) - not because they're bad, but because with more producers/developers/providers the products will be in competition and become better.

Eisner has come into WAY too much power. I'm not sure how the animation department functioned, but in Imagineering (esp. while Animal Kingdom was being built) he often refused to defer to the creative teams working for him, instead demanding that changes be made based on his personal likes and dislikes. It's sad to see a studio that once released classics like Snow White, Dumbo, Sleeping Beauty, and even Aladdin stoop to the level of low quality, straight-to-video sequels.

Disney makes very shortsighted decisions, and has been making them for several years now. Not just in their feature animation department either, but company-wide. They don't want to pay for talent or quality anymore, but instead are more worried about how much they have in their pockets right now and what cheaply-produced crap they can quickly market and turn even a slight profit on.

The city passes a law that in order for you to use city streets, you must install a small RFID device in your dash which causes sensors in intersections to send data back to the city planning dept when you drive by. The city swears that according to their current privacy policy, they will not collect the info about the unique ID on your car's transponder. However, they reserve the right to change their privacy policy at any time.

Lesson in analogy making: a useful analogy has to have the same (or nearly the same) conditions as the original scenario.

The terms of the warranty are clearly spelled out, but people seem to expect some extra "free warranty" time. How much extra time should you get? A week? Three weeks? One month? Two? I hate taking the side of a large company, but they have to draw the line somewhere, and the warranty expiration date seems like a good place to do it.
