Give me a driving test that 40% of the people fail the first time they try it, give me road that you have to have the "proven able" license to drive and I'll go for it.
How about we put an end to this slashdotting-as-DDoS argument. A DDoS attack consists of a number of computers flooding the target server with bogus traffic with the intention of taking the server down. A slashdotting consists of a large number of people that visit the site with the intent to read it, and maybe even purchase something. Each hit to the site comes from a real person.
Yes, the site may become unavailable due to either, but that doesn't mean they're anything similar.
Well, it's more like a big store than a house; And the hackers are effectively (and deliberately) blocking the entrance to the store for paying customers. It doesn't matter what means they use to achieve this effect.
If you can find it, try the "retro 0.5" pencil (by Staedtler). It may be a little hard to find, but it's worth it. Looks very nice, is retractable (so that it doesn't stab your leg when you put it in your pocket), and very reliable.
Here in Philadelphia, I happened to find some in the PEARL arts and crafts store. (No, I don't have a link.)
I just wish the Gubment would stop bailing them out, let them die, and let a new set of players take their place.
Amen! Nice to know that someone can see the root of the problem.
Under the guise of trying to "save jobs", the government is subsidizing inefficient, uncompetitive, and sometimes downright crooked businesses; Almost none of them would have survived in the real world -- without corporate welfare. (And even if they were trying to save jobs, paying for it with others' money is not the way to do it.)
That's the biggest difference between government and business. If a business displeases you, they don't get any more of your money. If a politician displeases you, you're still paying his salary.
Thanks to the Patriot Act I lost the right to choose a bank that offers me what I want. Yesterday, I tried to apply to Compass Bank. (They have real free checking -- they'll even refund the fees other banks' ATMs charge you.) Unfortunately, I was informed that after the Patriot Act went into effect, I am now required to physically visit the bank branch in order to open an account.
(I live in Philadelphia; The bank's locations are nowhere near. This is fine, since I never visit my bank's branches anyway.)
If I had anything to do with E*Trade Bank, I would be worried.
Yes, and I'm sure that you can log onto the MSN Messenger service fine with other clients after you set them to identify as the official client. The point is that they are attempting to block access from clients not in a certain set.
I just tried going to members.msn.com with Opera and was denied with this message (also described in my other post). This is only one example I remember off the top of my head. Also, Hotmail is a lot friendlier now than it was just a few months ago.
You are correct -- I just tried logging in with Opera and it worked fine. I don't use Hotmail often, but I remember that just a few months ago they would complain about me using Opera.
Also, if you try to access members.msn.com, you get the following message:

Just plugging the network cable in. What did you think?
They don't care about breaking laws, but they do care about getting caught and convicted.
Am I the only one who is picturing Netflix staff scratching their heads over sudden spikes in demand for some movies?
Why not just use optical sensors? That way, you get the average speed, as well as drivers that aren't tagged.
Just got done watching Star Trek: The Motion Picture . I nominate Vger.

To fully enjoy the ESRB web site, you'll need a more recent version of your web browser.
But 7.20 is the most recent!I tried to read the article but just couldn't due to the obnoxious flashing skyscraper ad for... the same article I was trying to read.
If you see a spam result, report it to Google.

Actually, most school buses have fewer horsepower than most Porsches.

The constitution doesn't grant citizens rights. It grants a small, very short list of rights to the government. They are not allowed anything else.
I'd say non-interference with interstate commerce has this covered pretty well.
