Actually you should read up on glucose metabolism. Your body does not make glucose EVER except from the carbohydrates you eat. There is no other magical way you get glucose. If you aren't ingesting carbs then your body will switch over to ketosis after stored glycogen(glucose+water)which is using fatty acids for energy. Your body will break down your own fat or use fat from your diet and use that to fuel your brain. It's not the preferred energy source for your brain but it will work. I'm not saying it's a cure for cancer but you should at least come with an accurate argument.

I'm sure the oil companies have something to do with it. They're no doubt trying to figure out a way to move to more fuel efficient cars while still making their exorbitant profits. As the efficiency of the average car increases, they'll slowly increase the cost of fuel to keep their profit the same or higher.

Also you must consider the extra maintenance expense since not as many people know how to fix hybrid cars(yet). Often you have to take them to the dealer which can easily make any savings go out the window. The only real benefit to the hybrids at this point is lower emissions.

I drove the 2009 TDI back in January when you could barely even buy one because they didn't have many. They really need to make the price more competitive if they want to gain any market share. There's no real reason the TDI Jetta should be $8000 more than a similar gas car.

I recently bought a new car. I really wanted a diesel but the 2009 VW TDI Jetta with pretty much stock everything was $30,000 CAD. Whereas the Mazda 3 that I ended up buying is $21,000 with a few options from stock(added $1200 to the price). I get about 35-38 mpg and from what I've read, the new TDI Jetta gets about 45 mpg when it's new if you're lucky and possibly worse for the first 20K miles. With the new particulate filters they put on it, the fuel savings is drastically less and not worth the $10,000 CAD difference to me.

I'm not talking specifically about Atkins. Ketosis diets have been around for a long ass time in bodybuilding circles. Specifically the anabolic diet, or CKD diet is what I'm referring to.

The overall goal between Atkins way and the other ways mentioned in the AD and CKD is to not let your glycogen storage drop to zero while still remaining in ketosis.

  18. Re:High-fat, but no carbs on Fatty Foods Affect Memory and Exercise Performance · · Score: 2, Informative

People doing ketosis will usually have a carb up once per week. The reason is to replenish your body's glycogen(glucose+water) storage which contained in your liver and muscle.

Ketosis diets like the anabolic diet work extremely well for a lot of people. Carbs are not a required nutrient if you define required as needed to sustain life. Your body can live off of fat/keytones just fine. People who feel like shit on keytosis diets are most likely not doing it right. The first week or so when your body is transitioning is tough but after that you should not feel bad. If you are not eating enough fat then you will feel bad.
