Heh I'm not coming over, not because of the people, because most are just nice and friendly and quite interested when I tell them I am from the Netherlands, but I don't like being treated like a criminal when I enter a country. Having my pic taken, fingerprints etc, and that data being shared with multiple agencies, etc. I'll stay here and visit countries that treat people better. It's a shame though, pre-Bush I really wanted to visit some places in the US like Boston and New Orleans.
Precisely, in the schoolbuilding where I work I placed some PC's on a few floors behind a glass window so students could look up where they are supposed to go. The only interface they could use was a mouse, in kioskmode and by making sure there were no holes in the webpage that was presented to them they couldn't cause any trouble. Took 5 minutes to set up.
Solving problems like these with technology is because users poke their noses where they don't belong because they think it is "their" device and when they break it, the IT department gets a bad name for supplying the users with "that crap" and the IT department has to fix it asap.
Sure, kill a lot of innocent people for the wrongdoings of their leaders, great job. I'm guessing you are just trolling though, no sane person could actually want that.
Using Foxconn as a manufacturer (did I spell that right, english is not my first language), they are enabling that company to practice slavery, have you seen how much (or more accurately how little) they earn and how the people are treated? They get 12 years in prison for wanting to start a union for fracks sake. No, Apple is a company that only cares about money, I won't buy from a company that uses Foxconn.
How about some social responsibility? If 25% of the world population would help others more, I think that most problems would be solved. Too bad greed is inherent to humanity and not enough people rise about that basic level.
Personally after working with the Office Ribbon for a while, I do find that I like it, but that's just personal preference and also an employer mandated piece of software.
It's not that, I think they see me and are reminded that they have a comp problem and at that moment they will ask only about that, it's not evil on their part, just lazy.
I see cause and effect, not neccesarily fault. After the Wall Street crash, the US couldn't make payments anymore to help rebuild Germany after WW1, that led to a bad economy there which resulted in an environment where Hitler could be elected. Sometimes it's interesting to see how the dominoes fell.
We have been using Teamviewer for a while now, it saves us going through the whole building and when a user calls, I let them start the session and tell them to show me where it goes wrong, it's perfect. They don't have to describe the problem in a vague manner and the user feels that he is getting better service (which he is).
Some of my users often tell me that they don't understand IT concepts and that they don't think they ever will, I usually answer like "Well, I could explain some stuff to you if you are interested" or "That's ok, this is my field of expertise, you have your own, let's concentrate on that" and that usually gets a good response from them. It's not putting them down and if they really wanna know, I give them the chance to ask for more info.
How is this relevant to this topic?
Well comrade, being dutch and still used to freedom, I refuse to be treated like scum, thanks.

Not just that, but if they are in so much trouble, why do I keep reading about new moviegoer record sales every year?
Because the comments on this topic have the danger of being too hilarious :)
No civilians for you eh?

His heart is in the right place, he just needs to be better informed, XS4all is appealing the verdict, this story is long from over.
Companies want personhood, that includes social responsibility.

I live in the Netherlands, I wish I could call my senator for this.

He has seen things like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zn7-fVtT16k and what his opinion is on it :)
I hope SH just doesn't cross the streams :)

Bush was smart enough to graduate, then he was dumb enough to be used like a puppet in a true "Team America" fashion.
Then I guess Heathcliff is the 99% :)
