You nailled it! Capital can travel freely, and large corporations can be immune from governmental authority, while labor is locked into specific geograpgic locations, and consumers are ruled by governmental authority acting on belaf of those same corporations.
Miramax buys up the rights to major martial arts movies, then butchers them for their release to the US.
Disney buys up great animated movies from Japan (Princess Mononoke/ Spirited Away),dubs them in "American", then releases the movie to only a a handful of theaters, with a very limited marketing budget to 'prove' that there's no real market for the movies in the US (and to cutdown on the competition with their inhouse animated products.)
If people can buy the original version of their 'products' overseas, shouldn't that a benefit of Globalization?
Someone needs to challenge the Mouse in court and take them down a peg or two. I think a countersuit for attempting to violate the site owner's Free Speech Rights is in order.
Not only that, he's also a Libertarian, judging from the Libertarin FAQ on his Personal Page.
No wonder he got screwed over by his bosses, and didn't even see it coming.
It's all about power. No matter how smart/creative/hardworking etc you are, a large organized group like a coporation can easily screw you over.
IF you don't 'own' the files permanently, the record companies will want to get a taste every time you download a song over a wi-fi.
Putting your entire music collection on a tiny card gives you more freedom, because you don't need to rely on a net connection in order to hear your tunes. (or see your movies, for that matter)
When Lucas releases movies he's a greedy bastard who's millking us. When it DOESN"T release movies he's a greed bastard who's doing a suckey job of milking us.
Gimme a break.
Star Wars has been released several times on VHS in the TWENTY PLUS YEARS that it's been out.
How many times has Jaws been released on vhs? Or the Godfather? Or the Wizard of Oz. Nobody knows becuase no one obsessively keeps track of that information.
Movies come out on video, they're in stock for a while, then eventually they go out of print, and if there's demand they're released again several years later. It's not Lucas' fault if a few fans out there feel the need to own EVERY release of EVERY Star Wars movie.
Compare the single DVD releases we have from Star Wars so far to the numerous versions of Terminator 2 that have come out. in the last few years.
Imported.... like all the way from the USA. lol.
Maybe we could trade cheap Canadian Prescription Drugs for Cheap Music CD's....
Maybe that's what Globalization is all about.
I'm not paying a buck per song for the 'privilege' of downloading a CD (minus the CD, the case, the cool packaging etc).
And I'm CERTAINLY not going to pay a buck a song to get the music on a non Mp3 format.
I'd rather go down to the locally owned used record store, buy some used CD's and rip them myself - in whatever format I want.
If the gatekeepers (Record Companies, Radio Stations, etc) worked with a more decentralized model, then more musicians would be able to get more exposure.
The record company would rather have 1 artist sell 1 million CDs than 10 artists sell 100,000 CDs. It shouldn't make that muchof a difference, since they've moved a million units in both cases.
But they can get more profits by artificially limiting the number of musicians who are 'allowed' to get their music out to huge numbers fo people.
File sharing is artist promotion. People who like what they hear will go out and buy the products the artists has for sale and go see the artist in concert.
But the REAL product is the artist him or herself. Everytime a listener goes from "never hear of him" to "I've heard his stuff, I really like it" the artist's potential income rises.

It is inevitable.
I saw going to suggest a bullet in the brain myself, though I think some broken bones might work as well.
If the National Security excuse works for the Federal Governmen, who shouldn't SCO's approach work for them?

"indiscrepencies"? :^p
They just happen to be in all the films.

and put the Control Chips in everyboy's head now?

Just what we need, a Search Engine that crashes your PC and has to have security patches added every other day.
