Next time your laptop breaks down leave the country and come back in and let the TSA figure out whats wrong. Better yet just to screw with them every time you go out of the country buy a cheap busted laptop and carry in though customs.
doesn't apply to GPL as you only receive to original file for free. sure you can do anything you want with it. But distributing or modifying it comes under copyright. Thers a big differnce between a copy given to you and a copy you make.
these lawyers should really read there own briefs. There is no copyright law in play here. Universal is the copyright holder and Universal made the copies. filing a DMCA is harassment and abuse of process. By there own statements there claiming that they own the cd's... So its a case of selling stolen property. There saying to original recipients did not have standing to sell the cds to the defendant. But i can guarantee the cds are not listed as assets by the company. So we have a company claiming this guy is selling stolen merchandise that in other legal fillings (read SEC) they don't claim to own. If this guys lawyers are any good he'll retire to a nice island in the bahamas after this.
If the record companies are claiming they still own all of these millions of CDs out there it seems the states should haul there asses into court for not paying the proper property Tax on them. Wouldn't be any different then leased/rental equipment. Oh and the SEC might be interested in why they don't show up on there balance sheets as assets.
your right in the fact that its not really a first sale issue as they are not sold--thus there can be no contract.
Comparison to NFR software however is invalid as they always make you sign a NDA or an agreement that the Software is NFR first. And usually violation of such just means you wont ever get NFR stuff again.
any attorney associated with this should not be allowed to practice law. any law 101 student can tell you this is pure BS. you have to have a contract before you can enforce one. A contract requires compensation by both parties (both get something) you can't enforce any limits on something you give away for free. This is why often when property is given to charity etc its actually sold for one dollar. You learn this in the first 5 minutes of contract law!!
ya think think maybe this is a new unsupported API that is subject to change that Apple doesn't want to support yet.
PS using undocumented APIs is bad programing (unless your writing the APIs too) that can cause significant problems. Doing such is really against the whole idea of a standards compliant browser...we want everybody to follow standards on the web but we wont follow standards on the OS???
PPS this is nothing like MS's practice of having private API's that give functionality not available elsewhere.
So Microsoft doesn't!!!....and to protect Adobe from MS...MS has been testing the graphics waters an is getting ready to strike, we all know Balmer doesn't like anyone dominating a market but MS.
more speed is great but USB will never replace FireWire for video as its not a matter of speed but architecture. FireWire is a true bus USB is not...FireWire can guarantee bandwith USB can not.
a Taser is a weapon and a weapon should only be used in response to a threat.
Resisting and being loud and annoying are not threats. Police had the guy outnumbered 5-1, he had no weapons and dude....that one big cop could have picked him up and tossed him out the door by himself.
Police today are using the Taser as a work saver. Has the world really gotten to the point where its ok as long as they don't kill him.
By the way have you noticed in all these incidents its allways the little cop with the Napoleon complex thats using the taser
Hey if you don't already know that you shouldn't be here anyway.
besides there probably rewrite that part so poor innocent American audiences aren't shocked by it. A hero dies...Never!! I also doubt there will be a war going on in America when the Super Fortress crash lands either. Or accidentally wiping out most of Toronto. The heros will be more two dimensional then when drawn and the Zentradi will be faceless evil aliens.
Of course Apple will keep up with the updates for safari for windows. it has for years! The thing most people forget is that 90% of Safari had already been ported to windows. Safaris rendering is done with webkit(based on Konqueror). This was ported to windows long ago to support the ITMS portion of iTunes.(All rendered in webkit).
People use IE because its there. but look what Apples doing...bundling Quicktime/iTunes/Safari in one download. a whole lot of people are going to have Safari..there already...because they downloaded it with iTunes. hmmmm Using your dominace in one market to enter another....thanks for the tip Bill.
Even if you find the law valid, the police had no way of knowing if the defendants camera was recording audio or just video thus they had no probable cause for seizure and since the defendant was essentially in police custody at the time(and undoubtable not informed of his rights before being forced to hand over evidence) there was no reason not to wait and get a search warrant. Plus the police officer already notified the defendant that he was recording them...thus making the tape just an other copy of a recording that is already evidence in a criminal case and a matter of public record
they wrote a program to do this at MacHack (now AdHoc) a few years ago I believe it basicly used VNC to spread one desktop across any number of networked machines. I think they maintain a page with the hacks somewhere.
Taget Disk Mode.... much faster than network imaging and much easier then pulling hard drives.
By the way you can use Apple restore program ASR to create a disk that will automatically wipe and restore the machine its booted on.
PS unless you have something that would require dual booting (ie 3D PC apps) it would be much easier and more secure to use a virtual machine to run windows. (parallels or VMware Fusion).
PPS if your installing numbers of Macs in an educational setting you really have to look at Apple Remote Desktop its a one stop shop for all your Mac administration needs.
most of these are technically illegal as this information would be keys to information that is not supposed to be used in the evaluation of applications sex age race etc. Seems to me if you can't ask for someones age you really shouldn't be able to require a copy of a drivers liscence to apply!! (actually that would include age race and sex on the card)
bad like "naked pictures of Bee Authur"

Visitors will experience the look of tomorrow by watching Disney actors playing a family of four preparing for a trip to China." To look for work.
since when has the RIAA cared about "valid" or "fair" or "logical" or...
Makes you wonder why they haven't gone after libraries for "making available" yet...

I think they are waiting on applying Leopards sandboxing to the mobile OS. That would be key to allowing third party apps but with tight security.

They must be right no one could make a browser thats better then IE.....except for maybe Apple, Mozzilla, Opera, Konqueror.
