Only if you read the apple section does it appear like that. Slashdot is way too biased toward linux is everything. I personally like having my computer working especially with wireless.
How about the fact that it is moderated so that there is a lot less flamewars. All I have ever seen on newsgroups and such is nothing but people flaming each other. That's not worth my time to use.

You have obviously never played an old NES or Genesis game. Try Marble Madness sometime.

Umm the free version is almost nothing like the pro version nowadays. It has the best history browser ever. It has amazing plugins. Lastly closed source does not mean bad.

Wow this sounds just like one of the arguements against Microsoft *rolls eyes*. Do you prefer the Arena football league because it only has 2% of the marketshare?
The NFL is allowed to sell the rights to the names of teams and players because of the contracts that the players and teams have. The players especially are doing this willingly and with being paid in the millions per year I certainly can't blame them. I've never really had any problems with the NFL unlike MLB (no salary cap), or the NBA (players are all thugs now).
P.S. The competition that exists for the NFL:
You have MLB, NHL, NBA, Arena football, NCAA, etc.
P.P.S. Grr, why doesn't slashdot automatically understand that an enter is a br and 2 enters are a new paragraph? Any other forum program in existance does this.
So you WANT to listen to the media bash our president 24/7? And yes this bias does in fact exist. You know the whole Dan Rather story or were you under a rock during that week?
Surely you don't believe that Apple would come up with a concept, go through the process of OKing it, and trademarking it in less than 1 month and 1 day.
OK I think that I know where the confusion is.
1. I am an American so I'm talking about the American scale of politics. In America these channels with the exception of Fox are biased to the left. ABC has made some strides in moving to the center.
2. These stations are not anti-american. In the US both liberals and conservatives tend to be pro-America.
PS Of course CNN International would have to move to be "more centrist." The rest of the world (for the most part) is very scarily liberal.
Yes I can name all of the organizations that called bush on these things: CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, and yes even Fox News. Just because the media isn't as far left as you does not mean that it is far left of center.
Also before you start bashing Fox News, leave it alone, it is the only national tv news channel us non-liberals can turn to for news. You can have your CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC...
Lastly the majority of slashdot moderators are in fact liberal. In case if you haven't noticed Computer Scientists are way more liberal than the average population (in the US) and then we have the Open Source people...
I don't believe it. There is a person on Slashdot with the exact same viewpoints as me... wow.
Anyways I agree with everything especially that last sentence. I wanted somebody like Lieberman (minus the video game censoring issue) to run for the democrats but they chose Kerry instead. After that it wasn't a hard choice between Kerry and Bush. I also wish that there had actually been a primary challenger to Bush.
I'm sorry that our whole tangle with the Japanese doesn't count in your book. We lost way more troops than France did in the war. We had more injured troops than France had injured and killed combined. Also we did a lot of the work to bail the french out. I think that we earned our right to not say things about France.

Slashdot never fails to show how Europeans trust an organization that puts Libya at the head of the Human Rights Committee. All of the UN's relavence went out the door that day.
Ummm... so how about the fact that over 95% of terrorists are muslims? The problem with airport screening is that they don't profile enough. They pull over an 80 year old american woman and then let a group of 5 suspicious arabs go right on through. What I would like to see is more searching of muslims but they should still search randomly from other groups.
You have definetly hit the nail on the head (and hence you will not be modded up). Closed source software tends to be better mostly because there is a lot *more* money to put behind it. People are more motivated to write better software with money than with politics. In fact I feel that software shouldn't be a political issue at all.
That being said, there is a few open source applications that are better than closed source programs such as Apache (IMO), and Mozilla (Though Safari is catching up).
I challenge the author of this article to read Nausicaa by Hayao Miyazaki and come back and say that graphic novels are dumbed down versions of novels. Nausicaa has the same feel and power as Tolkien's Lord of the Rings.
Disney did not reject the movie after it was made. They rejected it before it was even a fair bit done. They did not reject it because of "Bush funding". Maybe they just want to not bash the President of the United States. Take off your tin foil hat please.
The problem with this movie is that it stretches the truth very far, doesn't show the entire situations, and then tries to bash him for the most stupid things (staying with the children for 7 minutes after learning about the attack). I have been in a similary situation (on a much much smaller scale) where something apeshit bad happened and I was in charge. I reacted in a similar matter. He did what most good leaders would do in that situation.
I hope you aren't using a sound blaster live based sound card. If so then you are limited to only one sound at a time in linux. For example if you get a sound from gaim right in the middle of a song switch in xmms, xmms will complain that you don't have a sound card! I'd just stick with windows if I were you.
Let me post this reply using my wireless G connection that took no time to setup.

Software should not be politicized. It's just software. It's not going to end your life if you use a program that you have to pay for.
