    He didn't say that the BSD license is public domain. He only stated that public domain and bsd license are free. With that said I have to agree that the GPL is very limiting to me.

    Why would you care if a satellite is open source? I think you are getting way out of hand with this free software movement when you start caring about whether satellites use free software. What next, your car running free software? (Please don't tell me)

    You must have been under a rock for the past 2 years. Here is your wakeup call:
    Manga is $9.95 a volume now! It is no longer being made at the $14.95 price. The only ones left are the ones that nobody will buy because it is too expensive.

    Ten dollars is cheap compared to what manga used to cost a couple of years ago (before there was a Tokyopop). Back then Viz was the main translator and charged $15 a volume. I see the $10 as acceptable compared to old times.

    This will be a horrible thing. As a java developer I will have to make my java programs work with 10+ different versions of java which means that more resources will be wasted on compatability than improving the actual software that are being written. This will be a support nightmare!

    Well after RTFA, I read this paragraph which I believe to be the likely case:
    "Another possibility may be that neither the APE Framework nor the APE Modules you are using are directly causing the crash. In at least three confirmed (by the application's developer) cases the application had a memory bug in it. In these cases the developer freed memory they shouldn't have freed and it was reused as if it was not free. The loading of APE Modules caused new information to be assigned to the free memory space (as it is supposed to be) and when the application reused the free memory it wouldn't give them the data they expected, causing a crash. In other words, APE can actually expose a pre-existing bug in an application."

    Except if you like something called user interface. The gimp's UI is the worst I have ever seen in a photo editor. What especially ticks me off is the having to right click on the image to save it ... really usefull on a mac. There needs to be program menu's somewhere besides the right click menu!

    This is a typical argument heard in places such as California. You do NOT do this. Trying to negotiate means that you have a much less chance of having your son live. I would much rather kill the murderer (or attempted murderer), have my son live, and even go to jail (not very likely) than have to live with the fact that my son died because I didn't shoot. There is one thing you need to learn about murderers like that and that is they do NOT respect life and the lives of others.

    Astronomy is a vastly underfunded branch of science. Genetic research on the other hand is very well funded and therefore there are many more people getting paid to research all of these things that folding is doing. SETI on the other hand isn't getting that much help from researchers. I'm devoting my processing power to the branch of science that needs the help more.

    How does it present a benefit to society to limit how much you work. Also this does not present exploitation by others. As for the hour limits, Georgia has a limit on how much a college student can work a week (40). I am really in need of the money and would love to work overtime but noooo the polite government that is looking out for me won't let me. BTW I am not taking any classes this semester but I still cannot go above 40 hours! This is a really stupid and limiting law.

    Actually it is these damn virus writers that are at fault. They are the ones that are writing these things. Microsoft is putting out patches before any of these worms hit. A lot of this mess would be avoided if people would f****** update their system.

    Yes, but both are AGAINST the law. I would not teach my future kids to break the law in any way even speeding if I could. It is still a BAD lesson to teach. Buy them bargain bin games instead, since they are much more reasonably priced.

    When you download java, you get the source files along with it. GPL is not the only license that makes something open source.

    You're missing the point. This change is actually better for consumers. The only people it hurts are the people that copy tons of cds and then sell them. They made it so that you can play your songs on MORE computers. This is a good thing, not bad.

    Because there are just tons and tons of billion+ dollar revenue companies that focus on developing software.

    I would be more than excited to earn 100k a year writing software. GPL software has made it so that the value of a programmer is dropping to below 50k a year (with a little help from the economy). Hopefully now that the economy is recovering, it will be back over 50k when I graduate in a year. I'm not holding my breath though

    Yes but mplayer is techniquely illegal in the US. The reason it's mainly around is that it was created in Hungary. Turboliux isn't really lieing here because it is the first to legally support all of these things in the US.

    But then people can distribute it for free (ie piracy) and it would be fine under the GPL. The GPL does not work for a business that wants to develop software (not support). I want to make money writing and designing software not consulting.

    The Supreme Court has ruled a number of times that "seperate but equal" is never equal. This isn't about "not offending someone" this is about basic civil rights.
    I didn't say that they wouldn't have the same rights. I just said that it would have a different name. Same thing, different name. Marriage is defined as being between a man and a woman.
    Oh well, by all means, lets go ahead and eleminate those pesky regulations, dump the waste where ever we want, and rape anwar, so you can have cheaper gas.
    You really have not researched all of these environmental laws have you? Many of them are very stupid and limit people needlessly. I can understand laws against dumping oil into water and stuff like that but that's not the laws that I'm talking about.
    Name ONE child that is starving in America I don't personally know anyone from cuba, therefore, there aren't actually any cubans, that's just some damned liberal media concpiricy.
    Are you stuck in the 30's? What qualifies for poor in this country nowadays is better than the average in most countries. If beggars in San Fransisco make more money from government than store clerks do from their company, I really don't think that children are really starving in this country.

He would pull women off of the streets and take them to rape rooms that were made for his children's pleasure! He spat at the face of the United States and the liberal loved UN. He broke a dozen UN resolutions to disarm and the cycle would have never ended if we hadn't gone in. He starved his own people so that he could have more money. The main reason the French liked him was because he broke UN regulations and gave them special deals on oil. All this and he's just not very nice. What if somebody killed your father or mother? Would they be just not nice?

    The truth of this world is that one country is going to be the policing force of the world. Would you rather it be us or somebody else? Personally, I would much rather it be us.

    You, sir, are wrong with most of your comments. Unemployment rates are actually very low compared to what it has been in the past. Name somebody that you know that doesn't have a job and is actively searching for one.

    Gas prices are up because it is driving season and the whole rule of supply and demand thing has prices way up not to mention the fact that there are so many 'environmental' regulations keeping there from being a good supply of oil and gas so it's only natural that gas prices will be high.

    About that Iraq war, I just have one question for you. Do you think that the world and Iraq were better off with Sadam in office?

    Banning Gay marraiges does not mean that civil unions will be banned. I think gay people will have the same rights and even the same ceremonies as marriages but it will be called a different thing which it should be because the you cannot change the definition of a word in order to not offend people.

    Name ONE child that is starving in America that you know. Just name one.

    Lastly, the education system has been screwed up since it came under the control of the government. Many presidents are at fault for not improving the quality of education (including bush and clinton).
