Onstar is about much more than just GPS though. The ability to talk to a live operator (here come the matrix jokes) within seconds of hitting the button is certainly nice. They monitor airbags and dispatch emergency vehicles in the case of an accident and will even make reservations at restaurants for you if you want. Personally I believe the service is well worth what they charge, but if all you need is GPS, then a hendheld unit makes perfect sense.
Mmm, an unfortunate problem. It seems surprising that SPARC, being an open architecture, has not had motherboards ported to a standard motherboard formfactor or possibly a new standard formfactor for it. I certainly hope that this happends in the future, as I hope MIPS and PPC etc. will become more standardized as well.
I wonder if there would be enough of a market for something like this to be profitable...

While I agree that there are games that are designed to be played with the controller, (dead to rights is a good example) and they are done really well, I still don't think you have anywhere near as much control as a mouse gives you.
Umm, I think they already do when you consider the amount of people who come here. Remember how often people say RTFA? If only those who view the articles cause "the slashdot effect" Imagine how much traffic slashdot already gets.
I don't know about that. There seem to be too many problems associated with caching. One that comes to my mind is the extra bandwith that they would have to worry about. An Article about the design of the site mentions that just changing over to CSS made a grand savings of 3-14 GB a day equalling something like $3,600.00 in the end. Now that's just by cutting 2-9KB off every page request. Now, think about them serving (possibly) huge pages from other sites that may not optomize their code... That's a lot of money that slashdot would have to spend.
Actually, I've found the windows variants faster easier to work with. They've got more keyboard shortcuts via using the alt key to get up to the menus. Other than that, I really haven't noticed any difference at all, and I have used them on a mac.
There seems to be a common misconception that PC's aren't good for graphics. I beg to differ on that point. Rather, Macs are just more commonly used for graphics, meaning that if you get a job in a design house you're probably going to be using a mac, so you should know how they work.
I agree. Photoshop and a few Macromedia programs are literally the only reason I'm not running linux on my computer right now. It's sad, I know, but I need those programs...
Nice one. Honestly, I think if OS X was available for x86 I'd probably be running it right now. Although there are still MANY things about it that annoy the crap out of me. ex. When I press the home key, I want my cursor at the beginning of the line. Not that difficult apple, figure it out.
Well, I think a monthly fee would account to business suicide fairly quickly as well. 99 cents already adds up to the cost of the usual cd when all of the songs are purchased. People aren't going to want to pay more than that, nor should they.
How do we know most people don't like indy artists? They usually don't even get played on the radio, so how does anyone know if they like them or not??
There was actually a person by me that did just that with a farmstand. He brought all the fresh veggies and stuff up in the morning and left the cashbox there, out in the open, while he was away. Apparently he was never ripped off even once.
I found MC9 to be a bit buggy though, enough that it wasn't worth buying it for me, and believe me I do like the functionality of it.It seems like the problem is that they spend too much time trying to add new features and not enough time tracking down the bugs. If you look in the forum you'll notice that they really pay attention to everyone's request for new features, which is good, but they just need to spend some more time on quality control.
Well, version 1 software using fibbonaci sequencing could be considered alpha and beta. Don't forget build numbers, I think it would work out alright:)
Whether windows 98 is obsolete or not really depends on what your definition of obsolete is. Windows 98 is not obsolete by definition #1, but it most certainly is by definition #2.
obsoleteadj.
No longer in use: an obsolete word.
Outmoded in design, style, or construction: an obsolete locomotive.
Biology. Vestigial or imperfectly developed, especially in comparison with other individuals or related species; not clearly marked or seen; indistinct. Used of an organ or other part
of an animal or plant.
Notice that everyone running XP successfully has stated at least 224 megs of ram to be in their system. Now, I could be wrong, but I don't believe anything more than 128mb was standard for a 400mhz pentium 2 system. So, unless the computer has been upgraded (removing it from the caterogy of a "win98 machine" imo) then you're not going be able to run windows XP very well.
I think his point is that that wouldn't ever happen.
This has probably been said before, but the first amendment give the right to free speech. It says nothing about listening to that free speech.
Q: Hey, how many ADD kids does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
A: Wanna go ride bikes?
Aww, come on. I was just waiting for an all your base remark. It would have been a shame to waste the opportunity.

Maybe because playing a FPS with a controller sucks monkey nuts. Keyboard and mouse is a necessity for serious fragging.
AC or not, this is very true.

I'd really like to see an option to exclude RIAA labels from the site. It could be set in preferances or something.

Nice, I'm going to have to remember that one.

Thanks to Dictionary.com for the definition.

There really is something to the old addage, "curiosity killed the cat."
But hey, at least now I can send it to my unsuspecting friends *evil grin
Wow, up until now I had never seen tubgirl.
I don't think I'm going to be eating for about a week or so...
