I'd also like to point at that this doesn't mean they don't appreciate your effort. There are a lot of people who are interested in the open source community that may not really be able to help development or may just not know the best way to go about it.
I certainly agree with the arguement of '"3D" on a 2D space,' but in addition, I'm also wondering why we're trying to this right now anyway. In my opinion, we have a long way to go before we even have 2 dimensional desktops mastered, why are we trying to go 3D already? I think it would be better if we mastered what we already work with before we move on to bigger and "better" things...
I don't know about that. Yes, the actual difference in price is smaller, but the percieved difference may not be. Free is one word which really tends to get peoples (especially executives) attention.
I must agree. I don't think the grandparent should be modded as a troll. His comment is a bit caustic, but it is a valid arguement and something that needs to be responded to.
Also it can drive through a slalom without changing the direction of the body.
I hope they include standard travel sickness bags, because that's just begging to make people throw up.
I definately agree here. Going to the movies and sitting at home watching a DVD are two completely different things. If I have the money and the movie looks good, I'm going to the movie theatre, whether or not I could see it for free on my little 19 inch monitor.
The MPAA is just pissed because the movies lately haven't apealed to people enough to make them want to spend the money on the theatre. I can't even count the number of times I've heard "I'll wait till it comes out on video" lately.
Why do most automobile companies build race cars? It's certainly not for the average buyer. The fact is, when someone sees a car created by a manufacturer that has won the Le Mans 24 Hour race then they'll be more likely to buy it.
I dare ANYBODY to name something that can be done on a Windows based workgroup that can't be done on a *nix workgroup.
Graphics manipulation isn't there yet. Until Photoshop or some equally powerful graphics software is running on linux, it's going to be hard for me to use it as my main O/S.
Now I know there are a lot of GIMP zealots out there who are going to flame me for this, but the fact of the matter is, GIMP just doesn't do as much as Photoshop, and what it does do takes 3 times as many steps.
For the most part, though, you're right. *NIX is certainly ready for the desktop. The better question, though, is whether the desktop is ready for *NIX, which I personally don't think it is.
As much as I would LOVE to see that happen, there are too many roadblocks in the way. Most of them created by about 10,000 kilometers of red tape.
Thinking about it, that would actually give all those people who want to create viruses, etc, a legal (and helpful) place to focus their energies rather than the general public. So in fact, it might help kill two birds with one stone.
I don't know about that. I've been wanting a bluetooth phone for some time now just for the ease of transferring contacts and messages between my computer and my phone. Unfortunately I live in a state (maine) where we're so bass akwards that we're still using TDMA *rolls eyes*
At the store / shop where I work, people are always asking if we just need their "hard drive" or not. It takes a bit of self control to withold a witty answer.
Ok, I want to get info on my NIC.
I could either go to Start > Network Connections, right click on my "local area network connection" then click on the status tab or, in a CLI, type ipconfig for windows and ifconfig for linux.
I'm no CLI zealot, but I do think that it definately has it's place. Some things are just a lot quicker and easier with CLI. Not to mention that on a server it's quicker to type a few commands than to load up X just to do some maintanance.

Wait, wait, so you're saying a generic word "windows" can't be trademarked, but a letter "x" can? That doesn't quite sit right...
This should give you a decent idea of how I'm connecting. There's no need for 250 microwave dishes.
Funny, being that you're so intelligent, one would think you would have seen the note of sarcasm in the post.
Personally, I've been thrilled with 2.6. It's running quite a bit better on my laptop than 2.4 did. :-)
Actually, I'm making this post currently from a directional microwave connection in a rural area, so there goes that arguement. :)

Agreed, I've been quite interested in evolution, but I'm still not quite ready to switch to linux yet. Would it really be that hard to port it?

I heard something about a Police Cruiser NETBUI to be used as a safegaurd while children are on the internet too.

Don't forget about reputation, though.

I thought the idea was to get more people using linux, not to drive them away :o
No, but the relentless amount of spam he was recieving and the consequences of that may be almost as aggrivating and stressful.

Well it wouldn't be a secret for very long with that sitting in their office.
