Yeah same here I have 3000 source files, run Intellij's Idea (Java Based IDE) on a 1Ghz/512MB athlon and it responds seemingly as fast as a native app. I also run Jboss, Oracle and listen to music in the background.
WxWindows is slow and cumbersome. It also makes apps look like they were written for win95. Ill stick with Qt as it is fast, very customizable, and has more support for other languages. WxWindows definitely has its place, but its popularity and future is limited.
I prefer to use the two dimensional Political Compass system which eliminates some of the disagreements over the contemporary left-right system.
Part of your problem with understanding US/World politics is that the linear model does not correctly apply to general politics. This is has proven over and over again. I dont have the time to explain to you why. All I can says is read some economics books.
I don't even get CNN but CNN does less brainwashing than the Fox News
Pretty neat trick if you dont watch it. If you dont watch either I would find it hard to comment on them. Once or twice a month isnt enough to see the biased reporting. Its not even biased right or left, its whatever the reporter thinks you need to hear.
By claiming that USA is becoming more socialist, when in fact it is becoming more capitalist, you are in complete denial.
The US is becoming more socialist, I live here, I know. Even the socialists here say so, they are just mad it isnt happening fast enough. The government here is regulating small and large business more and more. The US, because of recent scandals and biased reporting is getting a bad picture painted of a cut throat capitalist nation. Which it was, 20 years ago. Now the climate has changed, unions are getting very large and pwerful, everything thinks they are entitled to free health care, businesses should have caps on their profits, and everyone should have normalized salaries. Crap, even the baggers at the grocery store are in a union even though they earn $7 an hour and they are high school kids 98% of the time. Millions of people have lost their motiviation to succeed and our productivity per capita has dropped as a result. Other nations that are turning capitalist have more motivation than ever because they see what the US is and know they can have what the average american has
Seriously, I dont tell you what your countries politcal/economic climate is, so I find it hard how you can talk about the US. News, is _always_ baised, they only way to know the facts is to talk to people from different walks of life and get their views on things. If you dont understand why people believe the way they do you havent directly talked to them enough. Slantdot/CNN/bbc is not a good indicator, dont even take my word for it. _See_ for yourself.
The capitalists, the vast majority of whom are from the right wing, are the ones that support the present policy, which is a direct result of neo-liberal economics--the most popular form of capitalism.
That is 100% incorrect. Take some economics classes. Right wingers want to protect americas future; typically by severely regulating immigration, lowring the # of H1Bs, imposing stiff tariffs on imports and regulating work exports. If you lived in america during the Clinton administration you could have seen him lower tariffs, sintuple the # of H1Bs, and lower the taxes on work exports. All this, in the waning hours of the dot-com boom. The left wing claims to be protectionalist but really its saying one thing and doing another just to get elected. You must watch CNN too much. Its called "brainwashing".
The reason socialist institutions and ideals survive is precisely because the number of people "leeching" or "using" the system is kept low.
Hehe yeah that has worked well for Russia, Cuba, China... They kept it, uh really low. Now that they are turning more capitalist, their GDPs are growing by an order of magnitude. Pure capitalist economics is not the answer, but invisible hand typically is. People have to have reward for their successes otherwise there is no motivation. This is an unfortunate reason why the US is headed for trouble in the 21st century, we are turning socialist, the other to-be superpowers are turning capitalist.
That is why internships and coops exist. So that students in school can get hands on experience. It also serves are a proving ground for employers. If a student performs well they dont have to take a chance on an unknown. They would know exactly who they are hiring. Works out for both parties very well. Experience does matter but they also prefer people with formalized educations. If you goto school and dont get internships or coops you are usually screwed in CS.
Yeah you are full of BS. No it doesnt necessarily matter if they had schooling or not but having schooling is definitely better than not. At the minimum its a tie breaker. In most cases its a way to filter resumes. And when the liberals allow more jobs to be shipped to India, You could at least take your degree and apply it to another field.
Dont fret though, lots of people didnt graduate high school. If things get bad for you, just get a GED or go on welfare. Everyone does it.
We need a real alternative to X for those who don't need the features.
No "we" dont need such an alternative. "You" apparently do, so go write one. The percentage of the preferred market for X does want/need these "features" and they will probably take up at least 90% of the user base.
I would completely disagree. Try this and tell me if its better:
You see a hyperlink in a terminal window that you would like to have your browser load. you select the link, bring up your browser window and try to paste but there is already a link in the location field. What do you do? If you select the link to delete with your mouse you loose what was previously on your clipboard. You could delete all the letters by just setting the cursor to the beginning or end and holding delete but that really isnt very efficient.
The way you would have to perform this operation is see a link you want to open and go to your browser first and delete the link in the location field. then go back to your terminal window copy and paste it into your browser. I am sure that this is "just the way its done" to you but for novices this is a major pain in the booty and is counter-intuitive.
I will concede that I should have said usually counter-productive wrt anonymous free speech. But the fact remains, misinformation and outright lying are common when you don't have to provide evidence. Just look at these boards. If you want credibility for what you spew, you have to back it up.
Deep Throat wasn't completely anonymous btw. Go google it.
Dont like khtml? Use the gecko engine in konq that is included in kdebindings. The only thing missing is the popup blocker.
gaim blows away all k im apps? try kopete. works will all major protocols and never crashes.
koffice is at least 4x faster and 1/10th the size of openoffice and has the functionality that 95% of the users need. And it can import/export office docs now. I would keep an eye on it;) OpenOffice has its place, but I wouldnt shoot koffice down since its gaining ground, fast.
This should serve as a good wake up call to you and others. Not only should you do things that arent illegal but you should probably not hang out with people that are.
Sounds like the FBI and the SS did their job. If they left stuff off your receipt you should have not signed it. People make mistakes and I would imagine the people that do these raids could get rather forgetful if they were doing them everyday.
I really have a hard time believing this. If this is actually true scan your warrant receipt and post it which yes you would have or the poor schmuck who conducted the raid would get fired. This is the perfect example of why anonymous freespeech is counter productive. You have no requirement to back up your claims. There is no company line any longer since the shakedown in the late 90s. Agents want their pensions, if they did get wronged or forced to break the law they could make 50k from a tabloid or talk show to tell their story.
I think you are others here are full of BS on topics such as this. It is sad what used to be a good news/posting site has turned into a liberal progoganda/paranoia machine. Mark me as troll/flamebait I dont give a crap. The reason why attitude towards the US has turned sour is partly because of false claims such as this. If you really are oppressed no one is holding a gun to your head to stay. Go move to "free" country like france, it worked out good for them a couple times last century.
So all you got to do is to move it out of your shared folder, and instead of swapping it over P2P simply burn out a few copies for your friends and family. Problem solved.
They do not want their movies shared online. So yes that would make them happy. Movies pirated "by hand" propogate much slower than those online.
As long as too many movies arent being pirated their profits aren't being harmed, they cont care.
but I still be purchasing a 5.1 setup. I think we have seen this gimmick before with glasses that had the red and blue lenses. We all know how "cool" that was.
Sounds to me like they are going to put certain channels out of phase to hide the perceived location of a particular speaker. If they do this with particular frequencies and channels at the same time they will be able to create anonymous sound. The problem is by putting certain frequencies out of phase the sound quality will drop as the speakers will fight eachother especially when located in the same cabinet. I would imaagine at theater volume levels (since its so dynamic) explosions and such will not sound very good. For an apartment where you neighbors have some control over your volume levels, this technology could help non-audiophiles.
Try reversing the wires on one of your speakers on your 2 channel stereo. It becomes very hard to pinpoint where the sound is coming from.
Does this replace the pad and button on the laptop? Nope. Since most of the time my laptop is usually on my lap, this typical zealot response still does not help solve the problem, just hides it at additional cost to the consumer.
I know a mac is a mac and has always had one button mice. The GUI interaction is different than windows and probably doesnt really require a two button mouse. If apple truely wants people to switch(tm) though, it should be as painless as possible, just like they claim the rest of their OS is.
My question is, if 80% (according to the mac store where I live) of the people that buy macs replace the mouse immediately why wouldnt apple just "give in" and start distributing a two button scroll mouse with all their systems?
Yeah same here I have 3000 source files, run Intellij's Idea (Java Based IDE) on a 1Ghz/512MB athlon and it responds seemingly as fast as a native app. I also run Jboss, Oracle and listen to music in the background.

ERRRR!
Wrong answer, they are interpreted on every platform, not recompiled.

Um, mod parent as Gay...
Talkin bout the default X cut and past not gnome or KDE chief. With KDE or Gnome there is no problem.

Game, Set, Match, World.
sounds to me like it may be weathering/recovering from a storm. ..
OK, You buck up the cash to bring it back in one piece. =)
Ah yes the infamous "You don't know what is good for you, but I do".
Let it snow, let it snow, let is snow....

I think you answered your own "question".
If you dont need a 3.0 Ghz proc, dont buy one. Those of use that do need one, will buy one and get our money's worth.
If you install the google bar it also has a popup blocker.
Make sure you are wearing a steel plate on your ass though as this doesn't do much for security.
"lefty commie hippie"
Huh that also somes up the majority of slashdot readers.

Thank you (or anyone) for finally confirming what we already know, powerbooks do not have two mouse buttons.
I rest my case.
Want more than one button? Get a logitec optical.
Does this replace the pad and button on the laptop? Nope. Since most of the time my laptop is usually on my lap, this typical zealot response still does not help solve the problem, just hides it at additional cost to the consumer.
