It is true, some manufacture does currently occur at .25 micron. Obviously there is advantages to .13 micron such as, less heat production, smaller die size etc. and this is what the latest chip fabrication plants use.

The older fabs still use much larger processes, e.g. .18 and .25 micron. I know that the P3's still being produced (pre Tualatin 733, 800 Mhz etc.) are on .18 micron processes, and I would guess that the K6-2's that AMD still produces are at least a .25 micron process, maybe larger.

IIRC, ~130 people RSVP'd for the Pitcher and Piano London /. meetup. It was the 2nd largest after Toronto when I checked. About 10 people showed up. =/ It was a great night though. Dave Green from NTK came along...and sold t-shirts. (I bashed you for selling t-shirts again! but at least I plugged NTK=)

I was hoping, but didn't realistically expect that ~130 people would turn up, but the people that did were great to talk to. We talked about lots of geeky things--as you would imagine. I met some people I had only read about before and really enjoyed myself. Plus there was, of course, lots of beer. I only regret having to leave around 11 to get my train home, when the party was moving to Pizza Express! (Dave's pathological addiction). All in all it was a great night, and I would like to do it again sometime.

Someone will always find a way around it, just as the MPAA will always find a way to stop it. This article shows that it is seemingly more difficult for the MPAA to put these procedures in place, that it is for people to circumvent them.

This is a Good Thing--it shows the government is protecting fair-use for the most part. Just as people will not stop circumventing stupid technologies that restric fair use (e.g. DeCSS), the MPAA will never stop their crusade either.

They have a flawed business model, and think we are all thieves, and while they continue to have enough money to buy senators (Fritz et al.), that image will prevail, and the leapfrogging will continue.

Of course not. Nokia hasn't even implemented OpenGL/GPS/etc. yet, as far as we know. How can they give us a cost, if the product hasn't even been designed, never lone actually been produced yet.

To answer your question however, it will be quite expensive. Just like any new technology, until economies of scale have been achieved, and the early adopters have paid a premium, it will most likely be out of financial reach for the masses.

If the cost issue can be sorted, even if all we get is a basic ballpark figure, then I may grow to be very interested in this indeed

Maybe we should consider the consequences of a 3rd party using this function to their own advantage in their own software. Admitedly there would have to be a reason why we would install this 3rd Party's software.

Consider this. A new version of XMMS contains a call to the function that pops the ad up on the screen. XMMS now puts its own ad up, or replaces the default ad. Besides the issues of 'nice' apps using this in an 'appropriate' way, it could open up the door for potential advertising/spyware/spam like apps we are seeing on the Windows platforms at the moment.

Basically, implementing this is like providing an advertising library to anyone who wishes to use it. The advantage of open source is that it would be ridiculously easy to implement.
