Not really, but since the first part of the word also exists in french (inter) most people don't seem to think about it.

Almost all languages still alive today keep taking things from other languages. Sometimes it makes sense (courriel, pourriel, disque dur, etc) and sometimes it doesn't (hambourgeois au fromage... didn't take though, people kept calling them cheeseburgers because hambourgeois au fromage sounds too stupid). :p

But sometimes they (OLF) try to steal words directly. The worst I can remember right now is "webmestre"... Yep, that's supposed to be the french word for "webmaster"... What idiot thought that up? WTF is a "mestre" anyway?

  9. Color scheme, LCD quality, OS on Best Color Scheme For Coding, Easiest On the Eyes? · · Score: 1

I know a lot of you will try to mod me down for my fourth point, but the fact is, code is text and there's more factors into play when display text vs a simple JPEG:

    - If you don't already use a good LCD display, buy one. Your eyes will thank you soon enough.

    - Use a color scheme that you think is easy on the eyes. You'll get a lot of suggestions about this from other replies since it was your question to begin with, so I'll pass on this one.

    - Use a font that is easy to read and makes it easy to distinguish all punctuation symbols. I know there's not a lot of choice in monospaced fonts, but who wants to read code in copperplate anyway?

    - Use an OS that displays text with proper anti-aliasing. Since I switched to Mac, I no longer have headaches from looking at code all day long. Microsoft's anti-aliasing makes the text too sharp, and Mac OS X makes the text softer and easier to read.

Now, I already know that I'm going to get "text on Mac OS X looks blurry, not soft" replies, but here's the thing: pick up a printed book. Does the text look more like something displayed by Mac OS X or by Windows?

No matter which font you use on Windows, it looks like a "computer font" because the letters are hammered into the sub-pixels. It doesn't look right and that makes it harder to read.

I must not be the only one with too many media files, why isn't Apple selling a media server of some sort? Or maybe something the size of the Airport Express with a 3.5" drive in it, stackable, in addition with a firmware update for the APE?

[...] 300 megabytes a month [...] is very high for browsing and the occasional iTunes purchase [...]

I don't know which websites you visit, but most web pages in 2008 are from 100 to 500 KB (which is sad, considering that (X)HTML/CSS pages should be much smaller).

As for "the occasional iTunes purchase", a single tune will be around 3MB. So, let's remove 12MB for the four "single of the week" which are free, and you're already down to 288MB.

It also means you can only view from 19 to 100 web pages every day even if you only use your 300MB for web usage. And that's without any YouTube, internet radio, etc.

I'd take a guess and say that most people probably use 300MB every day with their desktop/laptop, so 300MB for the whole month, even if it's only on the iPhone, is way too low IMHO. Google Maps alone is probably going to eat a lot of that 300MB.
