The communicator badges in TNG could be transmitting supplementary biometric data and non-verbal commands, which by now have become almost automatic: "Watson. I need you!"

The badge also indicates the location of the person. So if Picard says "Will" (or "number one", which is simply an alias that Picard made for "Riker, William T.") and the computer sees that Will isn't in the same room as Picard (or isn't within normal hearing distance), it simply connects the two via a communication channel.

Why is it that people keep referring to Nintendo as "doomed"?

Maybe people don't want to play in sci-fi games because they're tired of all the technology in their real life? Computer problems, phones, pagers, emails, IMs, ads on TV and radio... it all adds up without realizing it. People play games to take a break from real life. Wait a minute. They partition the hard drive/memory to get around DRM? How about simply storing the files onto the already existing partition?

As far as I know, even the 5th generation iPod can play plain non-DRM MP4 and H264 files (within specs limits), so what's the deal with their unit? Are you telling me they can design such a device but not know that you can store plain regular files on the iPod's drive?!

After having read a few posts about MSIE7's standards compliance, it seems the parent will have an easy job if:
    - he used standards (the websites work fine on Opera, Safari, Firefox)
    - he didn't use crap like ActiveX
    - he used the usual MS-style conditionnal comments to add IE-only code

If that's the case, then a simple modification of the MS-style conditionnal comments will be all the work that's required. Depending on how well the whole things are coded, it could be as simple as 30 seconds of work per website.

If he didn't do the things above, well, though luck. That'll be a lesson about not using proprietary code on the Web.

I don't think you've read his post. His clients will assume he built "broken websites" (because "Microsoft is never wrong and only open-source hippies complain about Microsoft") and he'll either be forced to code all new hacks for IE7 for free or lose his reputation with the clients (unless they understand exactly what's happening, which won't matter since even if he gets paid he'd need about 60 hours days to fix it all before the holidays buying season).

I've been using that one on my Mac with Quicktime Pro. I use "export to MPEG-4" along with "preserve aspect ratio" to have 240x160 files that don't get cropped on the GBA screen size. With a GameBoy Pocket, it's the ultimate in pocket-sized portable movies. Good enough to watch TV shows while on the bus, subway, etc.

The only thing in Japanese is the intro/warning screen.... After that, it's all icons and quite easy to use.

Only bad thing: it only supports up to 1GB SD cards (and one specific model/brand of a 2GB card, if I remember correctly).
