    Correct, it is not new. Not exactly sure what you mean by "not useful" though.

    He means the ability to patent the process is not new or useful. He was not speaking about the process which, while not new, is useful.

    C#, and Python are relatively simple languages; C++, Perl, and Ruby are a little more complicated. Each of them can be learned in a week or two by a competent CS Graduate.

    When I graduated, I knew C, and a little C++. i'm now 6 years into my career and i've done professional projects in C, C++, C#, Java, and Python. I've played with Lisp and Perl on the side for fun.

    Theory is important, not implementation. New languages are being invented constantly. Old ones are still useful. Keep up.

    In my engineering classes, there were usually about 30 Men and 1 or 2 women. The women were no more or less competent then the men.

    My wife uses a package called EndNote, which is a word extension which accomplishes the same task as BibTex.

    Readability? if you graph 3 lines on the same plot, they are easier to read if they are in different colors. This is the only use-case i can come up with.

    you could in theory make .debs that just contain scripts to pip or cran or cpan or whatever...

    that's one solution.

    Probably not, but maintaining a smartphone OS doesn't mean you want to be a carrier. For instance

    Microsoft
    Apple
    Nokia
    Samsung
    Palm/HP

    All produce (or produced...) smartphone operating systems. None are (or were) carriers. This would be an off-pattern move.

    You missed my point... If a cheaper option is available, then it's the consumer's job to find it. It's NOT the Megacorp's job to show it to the consumer.
