There's a wierd breed (of which I happen to be a member) of people who aren't quite software guys, and aren't quite hardware guys, but do a little bit of both. My title is "Embedded Software Engineer", but i look over (and redline) schematics regularly. Some EE courses certianly didn't hurt.
hmm...My mother (very non-technical) bought an iPhone as a PC replacement. All she does is e-mail, and she was tired of what a PITA her windows machine was to maintain.
This iPhone just works. credit where credit is due.
The Gnome 3 "activites screen" is like mac osX expose, but with the virtual desktops blown up to the side. Also, new virtual desktops are created dynamically. I'm not sure why, but it just sort of clicks with me. I've tried other virtual desktop systems (like all the compiz eye-candy) and this is the one that makes the most sense to me.
Basically, I always tended to forget that the cube has other sides, so to speak; whereas Gnome 3 shows me all the other sides whenever i'm switching tasks (on the activities screen). also, I always used gnome-do (and launchy on windows) - that functionality is built right in.
I actually like the window management on Gnome 3. I miss the compiz grid feature, but gnome 3 is the first window manager that I actually use the "virtual desktop" feature...I use two monitors, and Gnome 3 only does the virtual desktop thing on one of them. that leaves the other for e-mail and IM windows that i want to keep visible all the time.
I've used unity and metro (in the consumer preview), and found them lacking. I think we've reached a point where we have so much choice, It doesn't really bother me that the Desktop paradigm is being experimented upon.
Not only the the point made by my sibling poster (who should be modded up btw), but at least some imperical units were designed for easy divisibility.
12 inches in a foot, for instance. 12 is easily divided by 2, 3, 4, and 6. 10 is only divisible by 1, 2, and 5.
also, volumes are mostly powers of two. 4 tablespoons in a gill, 4 gills in a pint, 2 cups in a pint, 2 pints in a quart, 4 quarts in a gallon, 2 gallons in a peck, 4 pecks in a bushel. We seem to be missing half-bushel, half-gallon, half-pint, and half-gill units, but there you go.
The imperical system may seem arbitrary, but there is justification for a lot of the different units. that's not to say it's better then the metric system, which makes the math so much easier.
any sort of fundamentalism is no good. It's the active avoidance of conversation.
Also, we hear a lot more about islamic terrorists then christian ones. Though those cases exist, I hear a lot more about attacks from islam then attacks from christianity. also, the scale of Islamic attacks to christian ones is different.
Bus-Bombings out-scale the Westboro Baptists being offensive. 9/11 out-scales every terroristic attack ever carried out (not counting acts of war and prolonged genocide).
Windows phone 7 is full of interesting and good ideas with poor execution and little polish.
Sounds like every Microsoft product ever.

With C++, there's no way to really tell...
That's exactly what I'm looking for! I look forward to seeing your work...this looks very interesting!
Looks neat, I'd like to try it.
The website mentions how to call C functions from julia...Is there any way to do the oppisite? I'd like to try a julia library from a C program.
For the record, i agree. I read e-mail on my phone, I write it on a Desktop.
The iPhone works for my mom though.
bases its firmware on Linux in a non-tivoized manner
Has any manufacturer ever done this?
That's the hell I live in! MOD PARENT UP!
Then you could slut it into a laptop "shell" and have it be your laptop.
Giggity.

To be fair, emacs dropped their dot when they realised the '2' to the left of it would probably never change again.
Where can you deduct rent?
But not until two hours into the damn movie. "Titanic" needed a lot more ship sinking, and a lot less posturing.
I would watch that.
At least as of a few years ago, there was a small theatre in state college, PA that did classic films. I saw "A Clockwork Orange" there in 2007...
Haven't been back for a while, not sure if it's still there; If it is, i'm sure they're still showing old films.
There's a theatre in Newark, DE that is still showing "Rocky Horror Picture Show". College towns usually show a lot of old movies.
You just have to know where to look.
Didn't it?
Arnold Schwarzenegger is a futuristic android.
Which he is. right? RIGHT?!?
catherine tate show reference. not really worth getting into.
Mine too...the ladies love him!
We're all trying to forget that other guy...

Why is there no "+1 Sad"?
