I think i read an ask slashdot a while back about doing away with Broadcast Television in favor of free (socialized) wireless internet. I didn't oppose to this but many did becaused they still watch broadcast...
so what i'm trying to ask is... was this bandwidth unallocated, or are we giving something up here?
Lawyer: Mr Stallman, What part of Linux did you provide work in? Stallman: It's GNU/Linux dammit! Linux just jumped in HURD's shoes! I never meant it, I swear!
Maybe that's why driving and talking on a cell are illegal in some states? because now people are driving, talking, watching video's, listening to MP3s and IMing to their hearts content!
I'm telling at as a joke, but I've always wondered why no chip designer ever wrote this. It should be possible to log every instruction that passes through the CPU and play them in reverse order. Imagine how cool that would be!
The key components are almost there:
- perfect device detection
- modern file manager
true not quite there...give it time...
- office suites
- smooth browsing
- good email clients
Openoffice, Mozilla Firebird, Ximian Evolution. 'Nuff Said
What's missing?
- in-built p2p
- better CD burning tools
- better attachment handling in email
Does anyone else have built in p2p? i didn't know about that...does sound like a good idea though. Also, command line cdrecord is good enough for me, a simple gui wrapper would suffice for most people. Finally, i agree that program integration in linux is poor, and attachment handling won't progress without it.
however, the chance of program integration getting better in the future is pretty slim, unless a business is willing to commit to one Desktop Environment, etc.
the fact that there are so many choices is the beauty of the whole thing. However, i do agree that linux ought to be distributed as a base form and the various distrobutions should be available as add ons to the base. For instance i would install a base Linux ISO and then, say, the red hat ISO would modify it to suit their distribution...
it wouldn't be the first time microsoft stole a feature...
i hear longhorn is gonna have virtual desktops...linux has had it for years...
a lot of their interface is...shall we say...Mac Inspired (ex. the trash can)...
just have a system of stationary lasers pointing directly from the power station to the sattilite...when the sattilite detects the laser, it transmits...otherwise it dosent.
bingo...safe microwave power!
I agree...it suprises me that after the RIAA lawsuits and such, most people just disable filesharing completely and just leech the community...
however this would inevitably kill it, giving the RIAA exactly what it wants...

Finally an interface where slower throughput is good...too bad firmware revisions don't last too long!
if the library don't fit, you must acquit sorry, Obligatory Johnny Cochran joke...

I read a lot of duiscussion on this new X server on osnews.com yesterday...
The major topics were the Nvidia and ATI drivers: how fast will they be ported? or will there be binary compatability?
at any rate, I would really like to see more of the desktop rendered using openGL, providing for speedy Eye candy anyway...
Correction: The latest GIMP that i know of is 1.3
The trend continues...
This blackmail has gone on long enough...when this goes to trial i, for one, hope they get laughed out of court.
Any possible IP infringements have been taken care of as of 2.4.22 anyway...
Even old laptop batteries are so expensive...here's an example
Used HP Omnibook 900 (circa 1999) - $400
Spare Battery for Used HP Omnibook 900 - $150
What is wrong with this picture?

Does he realise the "Compiling excuses" pun?
Also, that is a REALLY HI RES Picture...i had to scale it down to look at it!
What stops me from walking into gap with one of these and walking out wearing my brand new bluejeans?
i didn't realise...my mistake
OH NO... let's all put on our tinfoil hats so the men in black suits don't come aknockin'
What would be the practical application of this?

They already have the usenet archives, why not irc? seems like a logical progression to me...
But lo! Longhorn is fabled to remove the registry! Rejoice, Windows Admins! i kinda wonder what the alternative is...

Ever play Ant City? yea...just like that... (btw this is not a plug, just a relevant referance)
