You, too, are propagating the same lie that the pharmas do. The patent system, and all other IP law is designed to provide control, not innovation. Things will be invented out of need, with or without the patent system. We're not just going to sit around and rot. We don't need it. Only the pirates needs such things, so they can "sell refrigerators to the eskimos".
Because if it were not for all our complicated medicines, we'd still have about a 45 year lifespan, and we'd be dead before a lot of those things started to happen.
Don't believe any of that pharmaceutical propaganda. They are full of it. We only live longer because we no longer wallow in our own poop, we outsource it, to places where the life span is 45 years, at best. It's basic sanitary practices that has given us our long life span. There's no more horse crap in the streets constantly being kicked up into your nostrils. You have clean water coming out of the tap, and the toilet, if you have one, doesn't just empty into the street. Chances are your not working in factory breathing coal dust, or live near the stock yards. You probably wash your hands before you eat. Your diet is healthier, believe it or not. You're not eating moldy bread and a bowl of lard, I would think. Damn companies trying to claim credit for something that had nothing to do with them. The drugs that really work were invented or discovered a long time ago. The new stuff is poison.
What's wrong with being satisfied with what comes with the system? Personally, I would rather not install extra programs to do what the standard program already does. Yeah, I use an alternative, because the original stinks(and the same goes for Safari), but now I just lost another 20-50mb of RAM to it. In my slackware system, I don't use Firefox, Seamonkey, or Opera. Konqueror works just fine. The only thing the users are "stupid" for is that they buy junk to begin with. A machine with nothing more than Windows and Office runs reasonably fast and is not too difficult to secure. Throw that damned Nortons in there, and now you have a real can of worms trying to get local traffic through, in addition to making the machine dog slow. We shouldn't have to clutter it up. Even if I don't agree with it myself, I understand the resistance the third party software. Sometimes, though maybe not here, it's well justified.
Let me tell you a little story. When I was a child I used to yell FUCK YOU!! at the top of my lungs at any given moment. Needless to say my parents would get very upset. So they sent me to one of those "etiquette schools" to see if they could break this horrible habit. What they would do is to encourage me to say something else. It worked pretty good. So now when I think of cussing I just say, "That's nice".
Now I've seen this type of thing on a street corner. Right next to the stop sign was a sign that says "No Stopping". I thought only the IRS did this kind of stuff.
And part of the problem is that this trait is rewarded in adulthood. Being a yes-man has its perks. And that's usually what they are when confronted with someone stronger than they are. They play the system and it succeeds. Many bullies admire authority figures and usually have the desire to become one. Law enforcement is especially appealing to these kinds of people. Thought patterns on both sides of the law are nearly identical. They just work for different people. Bad behavior is rewarded in many places. These bullies might be punished as kids, but they will reap nice rewards later on. In the meantime the usual hysteria is causing the rest of you to bully free speech right out of existence for all of us because you simply will not accept the truth that words are not deeds.
I agree completely. Here's hoping that enough people react. I'm don't know if anybody will remember any of this by the time election season rolls around. They will have many distractions thrown at them between now and then. Maybe they'll take note in 10 years or so when the mule drawn ox cart makes a comeback on the showroom floor.
It is all about conditioned response. Since that's how we live, we gotta do like they do and keep the fear factor up. Otherwise people's attention will just be diverted by some other hysteria like...um...terrorism for instance, the authoritarians' favorite tool of distraction at the moment.
A gulag is emerging in America, fuelled by a hysteria against a perceived crime wave - itself in part a media myth - and mobilised by a punitive 'War On Drugs' which is promoted by those with a stake in the highly profitable prison industry. The prison system is big business which is becoming integrated into the national and local economies.
Hide it from the public eye and they'll find it much more difficult to spread their ideas.
Or more likely, they'll just make stuff up and inflame things even more. "Americans eat kittens!" "Arabs eat puppies!" "Canadians eat their young!"(Is that true?) Yeah, that'll keep the peace.
Do more than that. Vote 'em out!* I believe you're still allowed to... Unless their was some signing statement that says otherwise.
* Our little group will have as much influence on this as the AOPA did on keeping Meigs Field open. You all have my heartfelt condolences. Your freedom is on life support. And somebody is about to trip over the cord.
Yeah, just like on an airplane. Please try to imagine 50 or 100 people all whipping out their guns and start blasting away. And more coming in as they hear the gunshots. My now redundant question is, Are you familiar with the term "Polish firing squad"? How 'bout a "Mexican stand-off"? Not too many people think very well in a situation like this. It all becomes "Shoot first, ask questions later". I don't believe you understand the kind of conditioning that is necessary to handle something like this properly without making it much worse. I bet you would have a lot of problems with friendly fire.
Let's go back to the ink efficient days of the DeskJet 400C and fuck these contract based service packages.
What? Are you one of those radical/liberals who place customer value and/or human rights above corporate profits? Infidel! Heathen!

Lyndon H. LaRouche that we all know and love? Ah, to dream...

for a very worthwhile project. And people have a problem with that?? Well, that's nice...
I guess I can't say I would have a problem avoiding a can of meat that contained some amount of human flesh, so long as it was accurately labeled ;)
Southern fried Soylent Green, The really white meat.
I want to see evidence that the system is foolproof !
What? you looking for a paper trail ? BWAAAHAHAHA
Hell, I don't even read my replies.

I just think there's too much anonymity...
This time I do take note of the messenger.* Very astute indeed. (Hey! new word)
*I'm sure some of you know what I'm talking about

A Segway for my parakeet.
More prisons, tougher jail sentences ... they don't work.
You couldn't be more wrong

Business is better than ever.
Not in the US. They don't allow snuff films.

All those "pops" and "clicks" aren't so random as you think. That's the watermarking.

Internet radio will just move off-shore...
With American law following close behind, and Australia and Canada leading the way.
Lawyers Killed the Radio Star?
Nope. Radio died in '73.
